FORMED IN 1987 BY VOCALIST MIKE KELSON , CHAS PARVEZ AND BASS-MAN JIM LOUGHRAN, WITH A VIEW TO A 'FUN TIME'. THE STAGE ACT GRADUALLY DEVELOPED A VARIETY OF IMAGES AND THE 'ROCK N' ROLL VICARS' BECAME PARTICULARLY POPULAR WITH AUDIENCES AND LOCAL PRESS.
SEVERAL LINE-UP CHANGES OCCURRED BEFORE THE BAND TOOK ON A MORE SERIOUS ATTITUDE WHICH CULMINATED IN RECORD COMPANY INTEREST. THEIR DEBUT E. P. 'THEN SHE TURNED' GAINED RAVE REVIEWS FROM REGIONAL MUSIC PRESS AND SOLD WELL THROUGHOUT THE U. K.
THE CURRENT LINE-UP WAS COMPLETED TOWARDS THE END OF 1993 AND KEYB0ARDS BECAME A REGULAR FEATURE OF THE SOUND. HAVING RECORDED A DEMO FOR FLAT RECORDS IN JANUARY 1994, TUFF ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO CAPITALISING ON THEIR PREVIOUS SUCCESS.
Back in 1992, TUFF had everything going for them. They'd just reached the final of a national song writing competition and along with it came good press, were touring Britain making new fans wherever they went, and had interest from several major record companies, including Silvertone, who had the Stone roses in their stable at the time. Sadly, they plumped for the wrong one, and although they still held a strong fan base locally, the pressure of dodgy agents, promoters and venues and several line-up changes brought the band to a demise in 1996, despite having clocked up well over 600 live performances, including a number of festivals during their lifespan.
The planned reunion four years later was then halted by the tragic death of their long-time bass player Jim Loughran, who formed the band with lead vocalist Mike Kelson way back in 1987 and who was a much revered comic sidekick to the frontman.
Kelson finally got together with former TUFF guitarist Clive Poole in a different guise a year later, and the two were joined by eighties rockers Bronze's drummer Carl Matthews and then bassist Nick Cook was recruited in 2003 to reform TUFF, the band!
In March of 2004, Richard Foskett returned to the fold after a 12 year break to replace Clive on guitar and TUFF continue to thrill audiences with yet another cracking line-up!
All the small things
Back in the USSR
Cigarettes and alcohol
Can't get enough
Down in a tubestation at midnight
Don't look back in anger
Don't dream it's over
First of the gang to die
I fought the law
I'm a believer
It's my life
Knock on wood
