I am a Highland Piper based in South East England, and have been performing with my Bagpipes at various events since the tender age of 10. I started to learn the Bagpipes back in 1978 and 1st performed a nervous solo at a wedding at Aylesford church. I am the Pipe Sergeant within the City Of Rochester Pipe Band, who are also available for functions and events.
I was taught the bagpipes as a child and have been playing for over 25 years. I have played and competed with various pipe bands and now compete with Manchester Phoenix Pipe Band. I teach the bagpipes privately and I'm also employed by the M.O.D to teach the bagpipes at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate to junior soldiers. I have appeared on the ITV Series 'The Dales' as well as 'The Lakes' playing at weddings featured on the programs. I have performed at 1000's of weddings, funerals, parties, and other events and have countless positive testimonials from very happy clients. I am booked every New Years Eve to play at Thorpe Park Hotel in Leeds, as well as Napoleon's Casino in Sheffield. I also receive repeat Burns Night bookings from Loch Fyne in Sheffield. I have a very good relationship with a number of funeral directors in Sheffield, Barnsley, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham, all of whom use me as their first port of call whenever...
My name is Mark Haynes and I have been playing the Highland Bagpipes for over 40 years and I have been lucky enough to have played at Earls Court, Wembley Arena, Royal Albert Hall, Hampton Court, Wilton House, Science Museum, Tower of London, Household Cavalry Barracks, HMS Collingwood, Horse Guards Parade, Portland Castle, Reading & Brentford FC's, BBC Television Centre, most of the London Park Lane & Strand Hotels and various superb Golf Courses.
Living in the Thames Valley I am able to undertake engagements in Central/ West London together with those in Surrey and the surrounding counties (Sussex, Berkshire, Hampshire, Middx, Oxon, Bucks, Wilts, Herts). I started learning as a lad in the 10th Hounslow Boys' Brigade, then joined the Pride of Murray Pipe Band, and now play with the Surrey Pipe Band as well as the Reading Scottish Pipe Band.
I pride myself on a high level of musicianship, a professional attitude to service and a large repertoire that I am constantly innovating on to help my customers get what they need for their event and have played at a wide variety of events including Weddings, Burns Nights, Hogmanay, Funerals, Birthdays or TV/film casting.
As an example of some of the requests where I have helped my customers, there was the case of a Bride and Groom who wanted a scifi themed bagpipe medley so I created a Star Wars/Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones/Lion King medley just for them and played it as they walked out of the church, much to the surprise and delight of their guests.
Another example of where I helped a customer was for a pub owner that was putting on a Burns night. She wanted to book a piper but they were really struggling to get someone to read the Burns poem, so I said I'd do it. I had never really done it before, but I rehearsed and rehearsed ...
