Booked for Wedding
Absolute professional from start to finish, I am just sorry I didn't get to thank you more on the day! From hearing the pipes whilst getting ready, to being piped down the aisle and into the wedding breakfast... it was all so special and beautifully done. Thank you for giving this Scottish girl a wee bit of home at her Yorkshire wedding!
I would recommend you to everyone for their special event.

Booked for Funeral
Ryan is an extremely nice young man who delivered a very professional service from the moment the booking was confirmed. He kept in touch throughout the process which was reassuring and asked what tunes we wanted played and delivered exactly that. He was well turned out in his highland dress and knew what was expected of him and arranged himself accordingly. His piping was excellent. He really enhanced our service for dad.
I would highly recommend Ryan.

Booked for Celebration
Matt played for us at a Burns night dinner for House and Garden magazine. He was totally superb, a pleasure to work with and a talented musician. He played outside and inside in a small space and the pipes sounded wonderful. All our guests were thrilled and so were we.
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Hiring Bagpipers in Edinburgh: A Complete Buyer’s Guide
If you’re searching for bagpipers in Edinburgh, you’re already halfway to creating something unforgettable. There are few sounds in the world as stirring as the skirl of the pipes echoing across cobbled streets or rolling over castle grounds. In Scotland’s capital, it’s not just music. It’s atmosphere, heritage and a proper goosebumps moment.
We’ve worked with countless clients planning weddings, ceremonial events and Highland celebrations across the city. So if you’re wondering how to hire the right bagpiper in Edinburgh, what it costs, and how to make it truly special, you’re in the right place.
Why Hire a Bagpiper in Edinburgh?
You could hire a bagpiper anywhere in the UK. But Edinburgh? This is home turf. With landmarks like the iconic Edinburgh Castle and the historic sweep of the Royal Mile, the city already carries centuries of Scottish tradition. Add live pipes to that setting and the effect is instant and powerful.
Bagpipers are perfect if you want:
An authentic Scottish heritage theme
A dramatic musical entrance
A ceremonial focal point
A moving tribute moment
A warm welcome for international guests
In Edinburgh, a piper doesn’t feel like an add-on. It feels right.
Events That Call for Bagpipers
Bagpipers in Edinburgh are in high demand year-round. Some events suit them particularly well.
Weddings
Scottish weddings and bagpipes go hand in hand. Popular moments include:
Piping guests into the ceremony
A bridal entrance with traditional tunes
Leading the newlyweds out after the vows
Playing during drinks receptions at historic venues
A solo piper on castle grounds or in a grand stone courtyard creates a scene straight out of a film. It’s romantic without being cheesy, traditional without feeling dated.
Highland Events
If you’re planning a Highland-themed celebration, perhaps inspired by tartan, kilts and clan heritage, a bagpiper is essential. Whether it’s a Burns Night-style gathering, a cultural celebration or a private Highland party, the pipes set the tone immediately.
Tours and International Groups
Edinburgh sees visitors from all over the world. For tour operators welcoming groups to the city, a piper at the entrance of a historic venue or festival makes a brilliant first impression. It says, “You’re in Scotland now.”

The Best Venues for Bagpipers in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is packed with characterful spaces. Some settings work especially well with live pipes.
Castle Grounds
There’s nothing quite like the sound of pipes drifting across castle grounds. Whether you’re planning a wedding, a formal reception or a private event, the acoustics outdoors are fantastic. The sound travels, fills the space and feels wonderfully dramatic.
Historic Venues
Stone halls, grand staircases and courtyard entrances are ideal for bagpipers. Edinburgh has no shortage of historic buildings, and a piper stationed at the entrance instantly elevates the atmosphere. Indoor spaces can amplify the volume significantly. Experienced Edinburgh bagpipers know how to position themselves appropriately so it’s impressive, not overwhelming.
Festivals and Outdoor Events
Edinburgh’s festival culture is legendary. During busy seasons, including events around the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, bagpipers are part of the city’s living soundtrack. For private events during festival periods, booking early is essential. Availability goes quickly.
What Does It Cost to Hire a Bagpiper in Edinburgh?
For most bookings in Edinburgh, prices typically start from around £150 and can rise to £200 or more depending on:
Duration of performance
Travel within or outside the city
Specific uniform requests
Additional ceremonial elements
Peak season dates
Short ceremonial sets are often at the lower end. Longer appearances, multiple performance slots or high-demand summer weekends will be higher. The key thing is transparency. When you’re planning an event, time matters. That’s why we always recommend choosing suppliers who provide clear, all-inclusive pricing upfront so you can make decisions quickly.
What to Look for When Hiring a Bagpiper
Not all bagpipers are the same. Here’s what separates a good booking from a great one.
Professional Presentation: A proper Edinburgh bagpiper should look the part. Full Highland dress, well-maintained uniform and polished appearance are essential.
Repertoire: Most professional pipers can perform traditional Scottish tunes, wedding processionals, military marches and well-known classics.
Experience With Your Event Type: A seasoned piper understands timing, cues and coordination. They’ll know exactly when to start playing, how long to perform and how to adapt if schedules shift slightly.
Friendly Attitude: A great bagpiper doesn’t just stand and play. They engage guests, smile for photos, and create a welcoming atmosphere.
Planning Tips for a Smooth Booking
A few practical points will save you stress later.
Check Venue Restrictions: Some historic venues have noise limits or timing restrictions. Confirm these before finalising your booking.
Consider Timing Carefully: Bagpipes are powerful. They’re best used for impact moments rather than background music for hours. Think entrances, announcements and key transitions.
Book Early in Peak Season: Summer in Edinburgh is busy. If your date falls on a weekend between May and September, do not wait to book.
Creating an Authentic Scottish Heritage Theme
If you’re going all in on Scottish heritage, the bagpiper can anchor your entire theme. Combine with:
Tartan styling
Traditional Scottish catering
Highland-inspired décor
A historic venue backdrop
The result feels cohesive rather than themed-for-the-sake-of-it. And in Edinburgh, authenticity comes naturally.
Why Book Through Poptop?
Planning an event can feel overwhelming. We make it easy to see availability and pricing without endless back-and-forth. You can make decisions in minutes, not days.
Tailored to You
Every event is different. Whether you want a traditional procession, a modern twist on a classic tune or a carefully timed ceremonial moment, suppliers can adapt to your vision. Your event should feel like yours, not a template.
Relax With Clear Communication
Nothing causes stress like uncertainty. We ensure clear communication from start to finish, so you always know what’s happening and when. When you’re informed, you’re calm.
Everything in One Place
Need just a bagpiper? Brilliant. Need catering, photographers and entertainment too? Also sorted. Instead of hopping between websites, you can organise your entire event in one straightforward marketplace.
Book With Confidence
All suppliers are carefully vetted. If anything unexpected happens, we’ll work quickly to find a suitable alternative. Add a money-back guarantee and you can book knowing your investment is secure.
Making Your Edinburgh Event Unforgettable
Edinburgh already does a lot of the heavy lifting. The skyline, the stone architecture, the heritage. But when the first notes of the pipes begin, something shifts. Guests stop talking. Heads turn. Phones come out. Smiles spread. That’s the power of a bagpiper.
Whether you’re planning a wedding on castle grounds, a ceremonial occasion at a historic venue, or a Highland-themed celebration, hiring a bagpiper in Edinburgh is one of the simplest ways to create a moment people will remember long after the event ends.
