Artisan Cuisine Limited set up the hog roast very well and the Chef, Darren was friendly, polite and helpful.
The roast pig and accompaniments were served on time and were excellent as was commented so by many of our guests. Darren removed the hog roast equipment and cleared up to a very good standard. Highly recommended.

Castlemoor Farm supplied everyone at my party with delicious hot roast pork sandwiches filled with apple sauce and stuffing. After everyone was served, the guys hung around for a bit in case anyone wanted seconds, and they did, then cleared away leaving the leftovers for later. I would definitely use and recommend Castlemoor Farm again. I would like to thank the team for an enjoyable evening.

The hog roast for our wedding celebration was excellent. Nik was very helpful and provided meat alternative and gluten free options. He arrived promptly at the venue and set up without issue or fuss. The food was really delicious, fresh and plenty of it! Nik served all guests and tidied away - in fact I didn't even notice he had left as there was no trace which was very impressive.
The entire experience was stress free, value for money and extremely delicious :)

The service from Oink Oink BBQ was exceptional. The pork was the best pork I have ever tasted and all our guest were raving about it. The crackling was out of this world. Honestly couldn't thank them enough. I am now trying to find any excuse to throw a party just so I can hire Martin and his team again. They were the dream team and made our day so special. Thank you.

Fantastic service, good communication throughout, and a lovely team on the day - I would definitely recommend Crocus Paella for your event!
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Hog roasts have been a British celebration staple since medieval feasts were served on trenchers and washed down with ale the consistency of soup. Fast-forward a few centuries and the ingredients have changed only slightly: the trenchers are now brioche buns, the ale is cold and hoppy, and the flames flicker beneath a rare-breed Berkshire pig. From village greens ringed by bunting to urban Christmas markets dusted with cinnamon snow, the sight of a turning hog still stops crowds dead in their tracks. If you are the brave soul tasked with feeding that crowd, this guide is for you.
Why a Hog Roast Wins Hearts from Cornwall to Caithness
Britain’s weather, pub culture and love of queueing combine to make hog roasts the perfect event food.
Atmospheric entertainment – a rotating pig is food and stage act rolled into one; guests film, sniff and speculate on crackling quality for hours.
Feeds large numbers quickly – one Berkshire hog produces eighty to one hundred and twenty hearty servings depending on bun size and side dishes.
All-weather resilience – the standard 3 × 3 m gazebo shelters pig, chef and queue from unexpected drizzle; side panels keep January winds off the salads.
Budget friendly – the national price band of £15–£24 per head undercuts plated catering, giving you more pennies for fireworks or a saxophonist.
Local pride – regions can showcase their speciality: cider glazing in Somerset, haggis-and-neep stuffing in Perthshire, or laverbread slaw in South Wales.
Typical UK Events That Cry Out for Crackling
August village fêtes where coconut-shy winners trade tokens for extra crackling shards.
Christmas markets filling town squares with the aroma of cider-braised onions.
Barn weddings where hay bales serve as benches and speech nerves melt at the smell of sage stuffing.
Company family fun days on business-park lawns—no spreadsheets, just bun queues.
Charity tractor pulls finishing on rugby pitches with applause and pork rolls.
New Year’s Eve street parties attempting to keep revellers warm until midnight chimes.
Spaces and Logistics: From Town Hall Steps to Sloping Orchards
A hog roast only needs four core assets: level ground, permission for flame or electric heat, queue space and a clear walk-off route for the chef’s van. Everything else is negotiable.
Gazebo essentials – most suppliers carry a flame-retardant roof with click-in legs and weighted feet. Ask for clear side panels in winter; they trap heat while letting guests watch the show.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
Levellers and chocks – British gardens love a cheeky slope; a wooden wedge or adjustable spit leg keeps rotation on an even keel.
Back-lane manoeuvres – warn suppliers of tight bends, low archways and width-restrictor bollards; some pits ride on trailers wider than a Chelsea tractor.
Power chat – gas bottles travel with the rig, electric spits need a 13-amp socket within reach. Check extension-lead rules at listed buildings.
Queue flow – sauces should sit after carving, not before. It halves wait time and stops guests juggling condiments while the meat steams in their faces.
Menu Anatomy: From Berkshire Pig to Brioche Heaven
Pig choice
Berkshire and Oxford Sandy & Black dominate UK roasts thanks to excellent intramuscular fat and a crackling-friendly rind. Outdoor-reared certification is common; check the badge if provenance matters to your guests.
Seasoning
A classic UK rub mixes sea salt, cracked black pepper, dried sage and a whisper of brown sugar. Some chefs upgrade with garlic granules, smoked paprika or a late glaze of honey and apple juice.
Stuffing
Generic sage stuffing keeps tradition alive. If you fancy swagger: add diced Bath chap (cheek bacon), grated apple and caramelised onion. Slide trays under the hog for flavour-gathering drips.
Sides
Mixed-leaf slaw with carrot ribbons and mustard mayo.
Cider-braised onions cooked low until jammy.
Crunchy gherkins, pickled red onion and mild chilli relish for topping variety.
Veggie alternative
Jackfruit coated in barbecue spices or jerk-seasoned cauliflower steaks. They roast in foil trays away from pork to keep cooks happy and vegetarians reassured.
Drinks pairing
National lager for easy sipping, bubbles for speeches, or local cider if you want regional authenticity—and a guaranteed spike in dance-floor enthusiasm.
Money, Numbers and Hidden Extras
The UK benchmark sits at £15–£24 per guest for a straightforward package: pig, buns, stuffing, slaw, sauces and a chef-plus-server team. Prices ripple with four factors:
Guest volume – the more mouths, the lower the per-head cost. Two hundred eaters can drop below sixteen quid each.
Menu complexity – add salads, desserts and biodegradable crockery, climb closer to the top of the bracket.
Travel distance – rural Highland gigs may incur mileage; London congestion charges do the same.
Peak dates – August Saturdays and mid-December markets add per cent; some suppliers also spike New Year’s Eve rates for unsociable hours.
Typical optional extras and ball-park adds
Sticky-toffee-pudding pots: +£3
Late-night bacon sarnie station: +£4
Espresso bar hire: +£5
Compostable palm-leaf plates and wooden cutlery: +£1.50
Eight Ways Poptop Takes the Heavy Lifting
Friendly filter – suppliers pass attitude checks before you even read their profile.
Instant pricing – enter date, location, guest count; real numbers pop up, no email tag.
Tailor without tears – swap brioche for ciabatta, ask for reggae during queue times—changes log in one dashboard.
Milestone reminders – the platform nudges you when deposits, head counts or certificates are due.
One-stop bundle – hog roast, photobooth, ceilidh band? One cart, one payment schedule.
Verified reviews – no shady testimonials—every rating comes from a completed booking.
Escrow protection – your cash stays safe until the pork lands on plates.
Replacement promise – supplier unwell? Poptop scrambles a backup or refunds without drama.
Selecting Your Spit-Master
Provenance proof – ask where the pig was raised, what it ate and whether the farm is free-range certified.
Hygiene rating – four stars minimum, aim for five.
Equipment list – gazebo, levellers, spare motor belts, spare gas regulator, fire extinguisher.
Dietary accommodations – separate tools and trays for veggie or gluten-free dishes.
Plan B – back-up generator or extra bottle for gas rigs, umbrella for carving station in heavy downpour.
Crew size – one chef plus one server can handle up to eighty guests; larger numbers need extra pairs of tongs.
Departure etiquette – site tidy, ash cooled, fat bins sealed; request a photo of the clean space in your hand-over sheet.
Sustainability: Keeping It Green and Tasty
Brits increasingly care where their food comes from and where the waste ends up.
Rare-breed support protects genetic diversity, while outdoor rearing boosts welfare and flavour.
Local fuel – hardwood charcoal from managed UK woodland burns cleaner than imported briquettes.
Low-plastic service – compostable plates, wax-paper wraps and wooden forks drop straight into council food-waste bins.
Waste donation – leftover meat boxed safely can head to shelters if temperature logs stay within guidelines.
Quick-Fire Tips for Hog-Roast Glory
Position sauce buckets after the carving board – queues move double speed.
Order 10 percent more buns than guests; someone will “just try half a one” twice.
Photograph the intact hog before carving; your social feeds will thank you.
Keep a roll of gaffer tape to control rogue gazebo flaps on windy seaside lawns.
Supply hot chocolate or mulled juice for December roasts – crackling alone does not warm fingers.
Rope a two-metre buffer around the spit; toddlers and tipsy uncles love touching moving things.
Label veggie and gluten-free options in huge handwriting; hungry eyes rarely read fine print.
Save a secret crackling stash for the hosts; it’s your reward for planning.
Play upbeat background music – queue patience rises with a catchy chorus.
Use Poptop messaging exclusively so details never vanish into personal inbox voids.
Last Slice of Advice
A hog roast is Britain on a platter: community, comfort, and a slight whiff of smoke in your coat the next morning. Thanks to Poptop’s instant prices, friendly suppliers and built-in safety net, organising one no longer feels like herding pigs through Piccadilly Circus. Choose your date, pop in your postcode, and let the tantalising smell of Berkshire pork carry your party from good idea to legendary gathering. Crackling awaits—time to book.
How much time will the setup take?
It is necessary to prepare ahead and choose a suitable place before setting up the hog roast equipment. Therefore, about two hours will be required for setup. Depending on your guests' preferences, the setup may be done inside or outside. Also, a 3m x 3m area, water source, and early access to the event area should be taken into consideration. You should hire a hog roast caterer on Poptop about one and two days in advance.
What's on the hog roast menu?
Each hog roast caterer has a different menu. Traditional hot roasts provided with bread buns or pita bread are included in the base price of this service. Sage & Onion Stuffing, Soft Baps, Rustic Coleslaw, Rocket Salad, Charlotte Potato Salad, Homemade Rib Rack Applesauce, & Spicy Tomato Relish are some possible menu items. A few sauce options are apple, traditional BBQ sauce, and tzatziki from Greece. Vegetarians, gluten-free, and dairy-free meal options are also available.
