The duo were very easy to deal with answering emails very promptly. At the event they were great playing all the Irish traditional songs along with some more recent ones. They played any requests we asked for on the night and were very easy going and amenable.Ths event was my father's memorial in a small intimate venue and they were the perfect choice as they played while people were talking yet added a warm ambience to the proceedings People gave me feedback that they were a great find.
Thanks to them both for adding something special to our evening.

Enjoyed by all, the youngest, the eldest and all the ones (who had a one too many) in-between, the dance floor was full all evening. The thanks we have recieved from all who attended has been over whelming.

Thank you so much for making our wedding the party of the year - everyone loved the music!
Black Velvet Band played at our wedding reception and they were brilliant. I had worried whether people would want to dance to Irish music but I shouldn't have. Everyone loved the music! We had a real proper Irish Hooley, with lots of dancing, singing-along and some humour in-between. As this was a marriage of cultures (English, Irish and Dutch) we were also touched that the band played a couple of traditional Dutch songs, allowing the Dutch to have a good sing-along as well. And when my dad asked if they could accompany him for a song to sing after his speech, it was no problem. The guys in the band are proper musicians who can play what the crowd needs to keep the party fuelled. The only complaint I have had is from my knees - which are still complaining, even after 4 days rest! Next time, I will wear trainers.
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.

Where Irish bands shine around the UK
Irish music is warm, rhythmic and welcoming. It creates connection across ages and backgrounds without pushing people onto the floor before they are ready. Across the UK we see the same pattern of success.
Barn and farm weddings that start with a gentle acoustic welcome, move through a friendly ceilidh, and end with a singalong.
Village fêtes and green events where a roaming tune draws people in and makes the day feel special.
Anniversaries that mix nostalgia with a bit of sparkle, using acoustic covers for toasts and upbeat trad for the finale.
Community nights in village halls where you want everyone, from juniors to grandparents, dancing together.
Private parties at home where a compact lineup turns the garden or front room into a brilliant little session.
If your guest list ranges widely in age or confidence, an Irish band is clever glue. It invites, it never lectures, and it gives people permission to join in at their own pace.
Lineups and styles that suit rustic and relaxed spaces
You do not need a huge stage or a festival rig to make Irish music land. Most UK venues prefer compact, tidy setups that respect neighbours and sound rules. These formats thrive.
Acoustic roaming trio. Guitar, fiddle and bodhrán or cajón. Great for welcomes, drinks hours and village fêtes where you want music to meet people where they are. Roaming numbers between picnic tables are crowd magnets.
Rustic ceilidh with caller. Three to five musicians plus a caller who explains steps clearly and keeps things safe. This is the single best icebreaker for mixed ages and it works in barns, halls and marquees.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
Low-tech trad sets. A trio or quartet that uses minimal amplification and relies on good placement and natural acoustics. Perfect when the room is lively and you want authenticity over volume.
Ceremony and spotlight duo. Fiddle and guitar, or whistle and guitar, for aisle walks, first dances and short after-dinner interludes.
Evening folk party. Four or five musicians with vocal harmonies and a tidy rhythm setup. The set opens trad and finishes with familiar numbers so even shy guests sing along.
A quartet is the sweet spot for most UK bookings. It covers acoustic welcome, ceilidh blocks and a late singalong without demanding a large footprint or heavy tech. If your space is cosy, a trio still fills the room beautifully.
Ceilidh 101 for first-time hosts
Plenty of hosts love the idea of a ceilidh but have never run one. Here is how it works when done well.
The caller sets the tone. They teach each dance in plain language, walk people through the shape, and use humour to keep it light. No experience needed.
Dances last five to eight minutes. Confidence builds quickly, and by the second or third tune you have a floor full of happy faces.
Space is flexible. In large barns the caller uses long-set patterns; in smaller halls they switch to circles and short sets so nobody bumps a table.
One block may be enough. A single ceilidh set is often the perfect hook. Add a second later if you want a big shared finale.
It is genuinely family friendly. Children, parents and grandparents can dance together. That mix is half the magic.
Think of ceilidh as a guided group activity with live music. The result is laughter, conversation and the sort of photos you will actually print.
Roaming and low-tech options for outdoor and pop-up moments
The charm of a village green or marquee garden is hard to beat. Irish bands handle these spaces with ease.
Battery amps and unplugged playing keep the look simple and the sound intimate. The band can shift between corners of the site so the music feels part of the day, not stuck on a stage.
Short pop-up tunes between stalls or picnic blankets work wonders at fêtes. Two numbers, a smile, move on, and the atmosphere lifts across the site.
Weather happens. A light wind plan for stands and music sheets, a spare rug for the bodhrán case, and a backup indoor spot in case of showers keep the day stress-free.
Tell us how you use your outdoor space and we will shape a set that feels relaxed rather than staged.
Pricing for Irish bands across the UK
Most professional Irish bands in the UK sit between £600 and £1,200, with travel on top when the distance is significant. Where your quote lands depends on simple variables.
Musicians on the night. Trios sit at the lower end, five piece bands at the upper.
Time on site. The common shape is two sets of 45 to 60 minutes within a four to five hour window. Extra sets, split setups or late finishes add cost.
Caller included or not. A dedicated caller is a specialist and worth the fee if you want guaranteed participation.
Equipment bundle. Some bands bring a compact PA and simple lighting; others tie into a house system or play mainly acoustic.
Date and demand. Summer Saturdays, December weekends and village fête season book early.
Travel and logistics. Rural routes, ferry crossings, paid parking and tough load-ins can nudge the figure. We lay it out clearly from the start.
On Poptop you see instant, all-inclusive prices for your date and postcode. Tweak the brief and the numbers update straight away, which keeps decisions quick.
Venue notes for barns, halls, marquees and country houses
Every space has a personality. A bit of planning makes the music sing.
Barns and farm venues
High ceilings and hard surfaces give you lovely natural lift. Use it. A quartet with controlled percussion carries well without pushing volume. Staging on a solid floor helps rhythm instruments, and a simple lighting wash keeps the band visible as daylight fades.
Village halls
You get community charm, a reliable stage and a floor that begs for a reel. Check the sound limiter if one is fitted, and plan a compact ceilidh so nobody feels squeezed. The caller will choose patterns that flow around the room’s pillars and doors.
Marquees
Flooring matters. A stable platform stops drums and bodhrán stands from sinking into grass. Cable runs should be taped and routed out of walkways. Wind can nudge stands, so a few discreet clips save frustration. If neighbours are close, finish with an unplugged circle so you end warm but within the rules.
Country houses
Presentation is key. Keep the footprint neat, the cables discreet and the volume elegant during dinner. A trio for reception and a quartet for evening keeps things refined without losing energy. Confirm where the band can park and unload; it saves time and protects the lawns.
Example running orders that work anywhere in the UK
Use these as starting points. We will tailor timings to your caterer, speeches and curfews.
Barn or farm wedding
Arrival and photos with an acoustic trio, bright but easy to talk over.
Dinner with light instrumentals or a curated playlist while the band resets.
First dance live if you wish, followed by a ceilidh block to unite the families.
Short breather for cake and a toast, then a final set that blends trad tunes with singalong favourites.
Encore the one everyone knows and finish smiling.
Village fête on the green
Roaming acoustic sets between stalls during the morning.
A short stage moment before lunch for a caller-led taster so people can join in safely.
An afternoon pop-up in the shady corner, then a cheerful finale before raffle time.
Anniversary in a marquee
Welcome instrumentals as guests gather.
A dedicated song for speeches or a slide show moment.
One ceilidh block after the main course to pull everyone in.
A singalong finish timed with coffee and cake.
Community night in a village hall
Doors open with upbeat instrumentals.
A fifteen minute ceilidh taster to loosen the room.
Quiz or raffle interval with playlist music.
A final run of dances and familiar choruses that sends everyone home happy.
Private party at home
Patio session at sunset with roving tunes around the garden.
A short indoor set once the food is away.
A compact ceilidh or two if space allows.
A last half hour of singalong numbers, then a gentle acoustic close for neighbours.
Technical notes that save headaches
A few clear details keep everything calm and professional.
Power and sockets. Two standard sockets close to the performance area is ideal. If power is distant, we bring safe cable runs and tape.
Space. Roughly three by four metres for a quartet. A trio works in smaller rooms without losing impact.
Sound limiters. Common in halls and house venues. Experienced bands work within them and keep energy high through dynamics and arrangement, not just volume.
Certificates. Many venues ask for public liability cover and PAT-tested equipment. We can provide both.
Shared tech. If a DJ is involved, we agree handovers and kit sharing so there is no silence between sets.
Weather plan. For any outdoor element, confirm a simple plan B. Bands can pivot to semi-acoustic under cover in minutes if needed.
Between sets most bands provide playlist music. If you want a later finish or wider genres, add a DJ after the live element.
How to shortlist an Irish band quickly and well
You do not need a month of research. A few smart checks will do it.
Watch videos that show both quiet reception work and a high-energy finish. Dynamics matter more than a highlight reel.
Read reviews from events like yours. Barns, halls, marquees and country houses behave differently. Look for mentions of callers if ceilidh is essential.
Check what is included. PA, simple lighting, arrival time, set lengths and travel are the basics.
Ask for a sample running order for your timings and layout. The best bands explain how they will shape the night, not just what they can play.
Pick the communicators. Fast, clear replies during planning usually predict smooth delivery on the day.
If two bands feel close, choose the one that answers venue questions precisely. Reliability in messages tends to mirror reliability on stage.
