We had the pleasure of Oscar and Barney perform at our wedding. We both have irish heritage and were really looking for an authentic 'irish bar' experience for the change around time. Oscar and Barney we're so accommodating allowing us to select a more flexible option for what we wanted in terms of timings to fit in to our day perfectly. They were very happy to make our irish bar vision come to life! So many people came up to us after about how fantastic they had been. We couldn't recommend them enough.

Booked Price of My Pig for my wedding party in a marquee. Communication was good leading up to the event. The band arrived on time and played two one hour sets. The band were just as good as we had hoped they would be. The caller Ben was great and got as many people up as possible and gave clear instructions (and was patient when people weren't getting it!). There was a good variety of dances. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an upbeat ceilidh band with a great caller.

We knew we wanted a Ceilidh band from the moment we started planning our big day. I still cannot fathom just how amazingly priced and incredible Price of My Pig were! 🐷
A 5 piece band with caller, our guests are still raving about just how unique they were and how much they loved them!
We adored having them play for our wedding and I cannot recommend them enough! Absolutely superb entertainment.
They’ll be something guests will remember forever for sure! Thank you so much from
Mr and Mrs Walker 31.05.22 (we’ll upload photos when we get some back) all our guests were too busy dancing to take any of their own 😸

Booked for Birthday party
Honestly - look no further, these are they guys you are looking for. I booked Blag to play in the local village hall for my birthday party. They were excellent musicians and lovely guys - polite, friendly and very professional. Their repertoire included many genres of music and they were able to adapt the music on the night to suit the room. The first set was an eclectic mix of music - all brilliantly played. The ceilidh in the second set was really fun, with Michael (very patiently) teaching us the moves. Everyone has been commenting on how fantastic they were ever since the party. I can't recommend them highly enough. Thank you for a really wonderful and memorable evening.

Looking for an Irish band in Bristol that starts like a cosy harbourside session and ends with a floor full of happy faces. You are in the right place. Bristol loves live music with personality, and Irish folk sits perfectly alongside the city’s creative streak. From harbourside lofts to courtyard venues and arts centres, we match Bristol’s spaces with lineups that sound great, look tidy and keep your guests involved from the first tune to the final chorus.
Poptop is not just a party planning marketplace. It is the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable event, with peace of mind and support every step of the way. You get instant pricing, quick replies and a team that helps you make smart choices fast.
Why Irish music works so well in Bristol
Bristol thrives on character. Irish music brings warmth, rhythm and easy interaction, which makes it a clever choice whenever you want connection without fuss. We see brilliant results across:
Creative weddings that begin with acoustic charm and finish with a big, friendly singalong.
Harbour-side parties where busker-style sets feel right with the view and the breeze.
Company offsites that need light background first, then a dance set that gets colleagues mixing.
Street-party style events where mobile acoustic playing brings the music to the crowd.
Birthdays that deserve something more memorable than a playlist and a Bluetooth speaker.
If your guest list spans ages, departments or friendship groups, an Irish band is a simple way to get everyone smiling. It invites people in at their own pace and builds the mood naturally.
Bristol-friendly lineups and styles
Bristol venues often ask for compact setups, tidy visuals and controlled levels. Irish outfits are perfect for that. Here are formats that thrive in the city.
Busker-style acoustic trio. Guitar, fiddle and bodhrán or cajón, often with roaming moments between tables. Ideal for pubs with gardens, courtyard spaces and sunset welcomes on the harbourside.
Folk-fusion four piece. Starts with trad energy, then slides into upbeat covers with tight harmonies. Great for arts centres, hotel rooms and creative wedding receptions where you want range without losing the Irish flavour.
Compact ceilidh lineup. Three to five musicians with a caller who doubles as a band member or a dedicated pro if space allows. Designed for smaller floors so you get the group joy without needing a sports hall.
Ceremony and reception duo. Stripped-back instrumental or light vocal for aisle walks, drinks and photos. Keeps everything elegant when volume needs to stay low.

Amplified but neat. When a full evening set is on the cards, a quartet with a small PA and tasteful lighting delivers punch without dominating a room.
A quartet is the sweet spot for most Bristol briefs. It covers acoustic welcomes, compact ceilidh and a proper late set, all without demanding a huge stage.
What it costs to hire an Irish band in Bristol
Professional Irish bands in Bristol typically range from £700 to £1,300. Your final figure reflects a few sensible variables.
Lineup size. Trios sit at the lower end, five piece bands at the upper.
Time on site. The norm is two sets of 45 to 60 minutes within a four to five hour window. Extra sets or late finishes change the fee.
Caller requirement. Adding a caller for ceilidh sections is a specialist addition and worth it if you want guaranteed participation.
Tech package. Some bands bring PA and simple lighting. Others connect to house systems or use battery amps outdoors.
Date and demand. Peak Saturdays, summer harbour events and December parties go early.
Logistics. City access, waterfront load-ins and split setups can add modest costs that we outline upfront.
With Poptop you see instant, all inclusive pricing based on your date and postcode. Tweak the brief and the numbers update straight away, so decisions are quick and calm.
Venue playbook for Bristol spaces
Every Bristol venue has its quirks. A few local notes will help you get the best from your band.
Harbourside lofts
Beautiful light, big windows and the odd sea breeze. Keep cables tidy, protect mics from wind and consider semi-acoustic early on. If you plan outdoor moments, battery-powered options are your friend. Load-in routes can be busy, so we coordinate arrival times with your venue.
Arts centres
Presentation matters. A compact stage plot with clean cabling, tasteful uplighting and clear volume control will keep the team happy. The room acoustics are usually crisp, which rewards strong vocals and careful percussion.
Pubs with gardens
You get atmosphere by the bucket. Keep the band footprint small and the kit mobile. A roaming tune or two between benches always goes down well. Confirm curfews and sound rules early so your finale fits the house plan.
Courtyard venues
Courtyards are perfect for acoustic and semi-acoustic sets. Plan soft lighting as dusk falls and a light wind strategy for stands and banners. If neighbours are close, end with an unplugged singalong to finish warm without pushing volume.
Ceilidh in smaller spaces, without stress
A ceilidh does not need a ballroom. Bristol’s compact rooms can handle it easily if you plan for flow rather than scale.
Caller first. A good caller teaches in plain language, sets a friendly tone and keeps dancers moving safely around furniture.
Smart patterns. Short-set and circle dances are ideal for courtyards, pubs and smaller hotel rooms. Everyone joins, nobody feels squeezed.
Timing. One ceilidh block is often enough to hook the whole room. Add a second later if you want a big shared moment.
Mixed ages. Ceilidh is built for families and teams. Beginners bring the best energy.
If you are tight on space or on a sloped garden, we can tailor steps and spacing so the fun remains and the risk disappears.
Set lists that start folky and end euphoric
A strong Bristol Irish band reads the room rather than forcing a fixed list. Expect a shape like this.
Trad session spirit early. Jigs, reels and familiar instrumentals that lift the mood without stomping over conversation.
Acoustic covers with heart. Simple, well known tunes for ceremonies, toasts and photo windows.
Folk-fusion in the middle. Rhythm picks up, harmonies get bolder and the room starts to sway.
Singalong choruses late. Vocal-led numbers that invite hands in the air and voices together.
Personal moments. If you have a special song for first dance or a birthday surprise, the band can often arrange it to fit their instruments.
Tell us your must plays and any songs you would rather avoid. We will brief the band so the night feels like you, not a template.
Sample schedules that work in Bristol
Use these as starting points. We will tune the timings to your venue, your guests and your plans.
Creative weddings
Arrival. Duo or trio playing airy instrumentals as guests take their seats.
Ceremony. Aisle walk and exit piece live.
Drinks. Busker-style acoustic set outdoors or by the window, upbeat but conversation friendly.
Dinner and speeches. Playlist or light instrumentals. Band resets.
Evening. First dance live, then two sets. Place a compact ceilidh block between them so all ages join in before the big singalong finale.
Harbour-side parties
Golden hour. Acoustic trio by the water with roaming moments.
Short welcome. A couple of trad favourites to gather attention.
Social time. Background instrumentals while the food comes out.
Late set. Folk-fusion and crowd pleasers. If neighbours are near, finish with an unplugged circle so you close on a high without pushing volume.
Company offsites
Networking. Instrumental backdrop while teams chat.
Icebreaker. Ten minutes of guided dancing or a call-and-response tune to loosen the room.
Main set. Upbeat, lyric friendly and not too long. Keep it inclusive so everyone feels comfortable joining in.
Optional DJ. If you are running late, hand over to a DJ for extra genres.
Street-party style events
Rolling music. Roaming acoustic tunes along the route or between stalls.
Static feature. A mini stage moment for a ceilidh taster that draws a crowd.
Finale. A short, high energy run of singalong numbers, then a relaxed acoustic close.
Birthdays
Welcome. A curated early playlist with one or two live numbers for the first hour.
Live blocks. Two shorter sets spread across the evening so you can fit toasts and cake.
Last half hour. Lean into choruses everyone can belt together. Take a bow and enjoy the applause.
Practicalities that keep the night smooth
Bristol runs best on clear plans. A few details make all the difference.
Access and parking. Waterfront sites and city streets can be tight. Share load-in routes, lifts and any parking permits.
Power. Two standard sockets near the performance area. If power is distant, we plan safe cable runs.
Space. Roughly three by four metres for a quartet. A trio can tuck into a corner without losing impact.
Sound limiters. Common in hotels and arts centres. Experienced bands work within the limits and use dynamics to keep energy high.
Weather plan. If any part of the event is outdoors, confirm a simple plan B. Bands can pivot to semi-acoustic or battery powered quickly if needed.
Shared tech. If you also have a DJ or house technician, we agree handovers so there is no silence between sets.
Between live sets most bands provide playlist music. If you want a full DJ finish, we can add one or coordinate with your chosen DJ.
Shortlist smarter in a few minutes
You do not need hours of research to make a good choice. Look for:
Videos that show both quiet reception work and a proper late set. Dynamics beat highlight reels.
Reviews from venues like yours. Harbourside lofts, courtyards and arts spaces behave differently.
Clear mention of a caller if you want ceilidh. Teaching beginners well is a skill.
What is included. PA, simple lighting, arrival times, set lengths and insurance should be laid out.
A sample running order for your timings and room layout. The best bands explain how they will shape the night, not just what they play.
If two bands look similar, pick the one that communicates quickly and answers venue questions clearly. Reliability on email often predicts reliability on stage.

Can a band customise a setlist according to my requests?
Irish bands already have a setlist they perform at an event in the order they want to perform. However, they can accept one or two song requests from you. Discussing your song requests with the band before the event is crucial, so they would have enough time to arrange the songs before your event. On Poptop, it is customary for all Irish bands in Bristol to talk about the event playlist before the performance. A band may charge you extra money if your requested song is not on the playlist.
