Kelly's Heroes were a hoot! They had all of our guests up dancing and enjoying a right session! Playing some of our favourites and a mixture of reels and jigs, all of our guests loved having them. Helen was very helpful with us when we were going through the booking process, they were very professional on the day too and made us feel like everything was always under control. It was nice to be able to just relax and enjoy their music! Thank you for everything, Cian & Jasmin

Booked for Christmas party
Black Velvet came to play at our Christmas Party for our CrossFit Gym held in the farmhouse on the site; they were easy and helpful to deal with from the start; everything clear and simple to follow. The performance was perfect for the occasion and Mike and his colleague were easy going and a pleasure to have around. They spent time with a guest who wanted to learn how to play one of the instruments and were great for getting people up and dancing. Thoroughly recommend Black Velvet!

Kelly’s heroes arrived on time, did sound check and was ready to entertain our guests.
We had given them our choice of preferred songs and they worked with that. They accommodated request to teach guests siege of Ennis dance, which have lots of people on the floor giving it a go.
By the second set the band know how to keep people on the floor with lively songs.
Given I booked the band with less than a week before the event, the communication was great and the band were kind enough to allow my nephew to do some Irish dancing as well as play the boron drum with the band.
Everyone has been saying what a great day it was and how they enjoyed the band and music. Glad i booked this band for my daughters wedding.

When an Irish band is the perfect choice
Irish music carries energy that suits London’s mix of formal and fun. Hire an Irish band in London when you want:
Corporate receptions that need warmth, a touch of heritage and a social icebreaker.
Premium weddings where an acoustic reception set sets the tone, then a full dance set lifts the room.
St Patrick’s parties that lean into tradition first then kick into pop crossover.
Summer terraces where a compact acoustic trio keeps the vibe bright without blasting the neighbours.
Upscale birthdays where guests know the classics but also want something modern to sing along to.
If you need music that can adapt across drinks, dinner, speeches and late night dancing, an Irish band is one of the most flexible routes you can take.
Styles and line ups that work in London spaces
You’ll see a few core options across the city. Pick based on guest numbers, the sound level your venue allows, and the space you have for staging.
Acoustic reception set: usually a trio with guitar, fiddle and bodhrán or cajón. Great for museum halls, galleries and rooftop spaces with stricter sound rules.
Modern trad and pop crossover band: four or five musicians who start with jigs and reels then glide into crowd friendly hits. Perfect for hotels and private members venues that want polish and energy.
Ceilidh band with caller: three to five piece with a dedicated caller who teaches the steps. Works in garden marquees and larger ballrooms where you can form sets without bumping into the cake.
Instrumental trio: for ceremonies, brand launches and refined drinks hours. Think fiddle, guitar and flute or whistle. Subtle, classy, very London.

Full evening show band: five to six musicians, often adding keys or a second vocalist. For big dance floors and late finishes where you want the set to keep building.
All of these line ups appear across London. The sweet spot for most events is a four piece that can cover acoustic drinks, upbeat ceilidh, and a pop encore without major reconfiguring.
Repertoire that keeps every guest involved
A strong London Irish band will balance heritage and familiarity. Expect:
Trad favourites: The Irish Rover, Tell Me Ma, Star of the County Down, reels and jigs that even first timers recognise.
Singalong moderns: from 90s indie to current chart tunes interpreted with fiddle and guitar so they feel fresh, not novelty.
Romance for first dances: acoustic takes on classic love songs, arranged to fit your timing.
London twists: a few anthems everyone in the capital knows, arranged in the band’s style so the room lifts together.
Share the songs that matter to you in advance. If you love a specific tune for the first dance or want to avoid a certain number, say so. Most bands will add one or two special requests and build a set around your crowd rather than a fixed list.
How a ceilidh with caller actually runs
If you’ve not hosted a ceilidh before, here’s how it works in a London venue:
The caller explains each dance in simple steps, no experience needed.
Dances last around 5 to 8 minutes, with a short breather between.
The band chooses patterns that suit your space and guest mix, so nobody is squeezed or left out.
The first set is kept light to build confidence. By the second, even shy guests join in.
For mixed age groups this format is gold. It creates conversation, laughter and instant memories.
You can run a ceilidh as the main evening entertainment or weave two ceilidh sets between band or DJ breaks. If you plan speeches, dinner and cake cutting, we’ll help you place the ceilidh at the moment the room is most ready to move.
Sound, space and setup in London venues
London spaces are varied, and many come with house rules. A good Irish band knows how to get the best from each location.
Historic hotels and museum halls: often have sound limiters and strict load in windows. Acoustic or semi acoustic setups shine here.
Rooftop spaces: wind and temperature affect tuning and microphones. Plan a light wind cover and a tidy cable run so nothing trips guests.
Private members venues: expect high standards on presentation, timing and volume. A compact four piece with a professional PA system keeps things elegant.
Garden marquees: flooring matters. A stable platform or staging stops drums or bodhrán from sinking. Add subtle uplighting so the band remains visible as dusk falls.
City spaces with neighbours: if your venue sits close to residential blocks, consider a band that offers an acoustic reception set followed by a controlled volume evening show.
Most bands need around 3 by 4 metres for a quartet, plus a safe place for cases. They’ll ask for at least two standard power sockets. If you’re tight on space, a trio can sound surprisingly big in London rooms with lively acoustics.
Pricing that reflects London realities
Typical pricing in the capital falls between £900 and £1,800 for professional Irish bands, with premium line ups and longer play times reaching higher. Several factors move the figure:
Number of musicians. Trios sit at the lower end, five or six piece bands at the upper.
Play time. A standard evening is two sets of 45 to 60 minutes. Extra sets or late finishes add cost.
Sound and lighting. Some bands provide a full PA and basic lighting, others tie into house systems.
Date and demand. St Patrick’s week, key summer Saturdays and December dates book early and price accordingly.
Travel and logistics. Central loading restrictions, parking and late night finishes in London can add fees. Clear info at booking keeps this predictable.
On Poptop you see instant, all inclusive pricing up front. No back and forth, no surprises. If you’re weighing a few line ups, we’ll show what changes when you add a caller, extend play time or switch to a larger band.
Planning the flow for each event type
Different parties need different pacing. Here are proven structures for London hosts.
Corporate receptions
Acoustic arrival set as guests check in and take first drinks.
Short welcome from the host, then a light ceilidh taster so teams mingle.
Networking time with instrumental background.
Final upbeat set before departure to leave the room smiling.
Premium weddings
Ceremony music from an instrumental trio or acoustic duo.
Drinks reception with modern trad covers that suit conversation.
Dinner, speeches, reset.
First dance led by the band, then two full dance sets with a ceilidh block in the middle to involve all ages.
St Patrick’s parties
Open with trad classics to set the scene.
Ceilidh with caller for the first half of the night.
Modern crossover finale that brings in chart hits so everyone belts the chorus.
Summer terraces
Daylight acoustic set, no heavy kit.
Sunset uplift with livelier numbers.
If the venue has neighbours, finish with a singalong unplugged circle so you end warm but not too loud.
Upscale birthdays
Curated playlist matched to the guest of honour’s taste, including a surprise request.
One ceilidh block if you have the space, or stick to modern trad with a strong vocal to keep the dance floor busy.
Logistics that matter in the capital
London rewards planning. A few practical notes will keep things smooth.
Access and parking. Share your venue’s load in route, lifts, and any parking info. Central zones may involve permits or charges.
Timings. Allow 60 to 90 minutes for load in and soundcheck, then 30 minutes to clear. If your venue has a hard curfew, we’ll align the final number and load out accordingly.
Sound limiters. Many central venues use them. Bands that specialise in London know how to work within limiter levels without losing energy.
Space. Confirm the band area, power access and a nearby green room or safe storage if available.
Coordination. If you also have a DJ or a house technician, we’ll agree set order, handovers and equipment sharing so there is no dead air.
Share these details early and you’ll protect the budget and the vibe. We’ll gather the essentials and brief the band so everyone turns up ready.

How to compare Irish bands for your London brief
When shortlisting on Poptop, look for the following so you can decide quickly.
Audio and video that show both acoustic and full band sets, not just highlight reels.
Reviews that mention venue types similar to yours, such as historic hotels or rooftop spaces.
Evidence of ceilidh experience if you want a caller. This is a distinct skill.
Set lists that mix trad and pop crossover in a way that suits your crowd.
Clear info on PA, lighting and insurance. Many central London venues require PLI and PAT certification.
If two bands look close, ask for a sample running order for your exact venue layout. The way they place the ceilidh block, first dance and final set often reveals the best fit.
The simple booking plan
Here is a clean way to get from idea to confirmed band without fuss.
Share the essentials. Date, venue, guest count, any must have moments like the first dance or a toast line.
Browse matched Irish bands in London with instant prices. Shortlist two or three based on style and availability.
Ask for a sample running order. Check it against your venue timings and curfew.
Confirm the package. Lock in the exact line up, set lengths and any extras like a caller or early setup.
Relax. We coordinate with your venue on access, power, sound and insurance. You get updates at each step.
