Behan's Footsteps Duo are two brothers based in West Yorkshire who play exhilarating and soulful Irish folk music, with the occasional Scottish ceilidh tune added in. We have played Irish music since we were old enough to hold our instruments! Behan's Footsteps have been playing Celtic music for as long as they could walk. We know how to make people dance, and we know how to make them cry.

About supplier

We are able to provide differing atmospheres for different occasions. We enjoy playing raucous, high-energy shows but are equally happy playing a beautiful ballad as a bride strolls down the aisle. Our sets are always catered to the event that we're playing.

Booked for Wedding

this is a very diverse platform. you can find all sorts of services, artists, performers, etc, which is super useful. However I would advice that you chose people many months in advance, so that if they don't confirm, you can cancel with no fees. Not every professional will respond, be aware. We managed to find people, but it was a hit and miss.

Booked for Hen party

Oscar and Barney were amazing! We booked really last minute after another band cancelled and they were really flexible and managed to fit in with exactly what we were looking for. We booked them for my friends hen do and requested Irish songs and they were brilliant - even playing songs for us that weren't on their usual set list. They were super friendly and relaxed and I think everyone would have liked them to stay all night if they could! Would highly recommend.

Booked for Birthday party

The O'Marleys were the perfect band for my Irish Father-in-law's 80th birthday party. They were so friendly and entertaining and all the guests loved the music. Communication before the event was easy and prompt after booking. I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone interested.

Booked for Private party

The Black Velvet Band trio were extremely talented musicians who delivered a good range of Irish tunes to a very high standard, although surprisingly not the song "The Black Velvet Band"! Overall they provided a great nights entertainment, I think there could have been a little more interaction with the audience, but I would recommend them to anyone wanting to hold an Irish themed night. Unfortunately we were not allowed dancing due to restrictions, once these are lifted the night would be even better.

Paddicraic were fantastic - everyone loved them - they got everyone up on the dance floor - superb night thankyou. Dave was very accommodating and very thorough with arrangements .

We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies

We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.

Irish Bands in Sheffield: Your Straight-Talking Guide to Booking the Right One

If you’re searching for Irish bands in Sheffield, chances are you’re planning something properly good. A milestone birthday with a Guinness or two. A university event that needs more than a Spotify playlist. A local fête that deserves real atmosphere, not just background noise.

Whatever the occasion, live Irish music brings warmth, rhythm and a bit of mischief to the party. In a city like Sheffield, where music runs deep and community spirit is strong, an Irish band can turn a gathering into a full-blown celebration.

We’ve put together this buyer’s guide to help you book the right Irish band in Sheffield with confidence, clarity and zero faff.

Why Irish Live Music Works So Well in Sheffield

Sheffield is a proper music city. From grassroots venues to big-name gigs, it knows how to appreciate live sound. That makes it the perfect setting for a mixed trad and folk Irish band, especially one that can throw in a ceilidh dance block when the mood strikes.

Irish bands aren’t just about standing politely and clapping along. The best ones:

  • Build the atmosphere gradually, starting with toe-tapping folk
  • Get guests singing along to well-loved Irish classics
  • Call a few simple ceilidh dances that pull everyone onto the floor
  • Adapt their set depending on the crowd

Whether you’re hosting in a music venue, a village hall or a lively beer garden, that flexibility is gold dust.

What Type of Event Are You Planning?

Different events call for slightly different vibes. Here’s how Irish bands typically fit into Sheffield’s most popular occasions.

Birthday Parties

From 30ths to 70ths, Irish bands bring energy without feeling cheesy. For birthdays, we usually recommend:

  • A mixed trad and folk set for the first hour
  • A more upbeat second half
  • Optional ceilidh dances to get all generations involved

In Sheffield’s village halls and private hire spaces, this format works beautifully. It feels interactive without being forced. Your guests can dance, chat or sing along as they please.

University Events

With both major universities in the city, there’s always demand for live entertainment that feels authentic and lively. Irish bands are ideal for:

  • Society balls
  • Cultural nights
  • End-of-term parties

  • Freshers’ week events
  • Students respond brilliantly to live folk music, especially when the tempo picks up. A short ceilidh section can turn a room of strangers into a room of mates in under ten minutes. That’s the magic.

    Local Fêtes and Community Days

For outdoor events in beer gardens, parks or community spaces, Irish bands create a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. They’re perfect for:

    • Summer fêtes
    • Heritage events
    • Food and drink festivals
    • Charity fundraisers

Acoustic instruments such as fiddle, bodhrán, guitar and accordion carry well outdoors without overwhelming conversation. It feels festive rather than intrusive.

    Sheffield Venues: What to Consider

When booking Irish bands in Sheffield, the venue matters. A lot.

    Music Venues

Sheffield’s independent music venues are used to hosting live acts, which makes logistics straightforward. Expect:

    • Proper sound systems
    • Clear stage areas
    • Easy load-in access

This is ideal if you’re booking a full band with amplification and plan to host a proper dance element.

    Village Halls

Village halls are popular for birthdays and ceilidh-style evenings. They’re brilliant blank canvases but do check:

    • Ceiling height for sound quality
    • Access to power sockets
    • Space for dancing

Most Irish bands are used to working in halls and can bring their own PA if needed. Just confirm it upfront.

    Beer Gardens

Outdoor bookings are increasingly popular in Sheffield, especially in spring and summer. If you’re planning live Irish music outside, think about:

    • Weather contingency
    • Power supply
    • Noise restrictions

A semi-acoustic setup often works best outdoors, keeping the atmosphere lively but neighbour-friendly.

What Does It Cost to Hire an Irish Band in Sheffield?

Let’s talk numbers. For Irish bands in Sheffield, you’re typically looking at £600 to £1,200. Where you sit within that range depends on:

    • Number of musicians
    • Length of performance
    • Travel and setup requirements
    • Whether they’re providing a full PA and lighting

A duo or trio playing two sets will sit at the lower end. A larger band with a structured ceilidh segment and full sound setup will cost more. Our advice? Don’t just chase the cheapest option. Experience, professionalism and the ability to read a room are worth every penny.

Mixed Trad and Folk: What That Actually Means

When bands describe themselves as mixed trad and folk, here’s what you can expect.

    Traditional Irish tunes:

    • Reels
    • Jigs
    • Instrumental sets

    Folk classics:

    • Singalong favourites
    • Story-driven ballads
    • Upbeat pub-style numbers

In Sheffield, we often see clients wanting a balance. Enough traditional music to feel authentic, but enough recognisable tunes to keep the energy high. The best bands move naturally between the two.

    Adding a Ceilidh Dance Block

If you want guaranteed crowd participation, ask about a ceilidh segment. A ceilidh dance block typically includes:

    • A caller who explains the steps clearly
    • Simple, inclusive dances
    • Rotating partners so everyone joins in

You don’t need prior experience. In fact, beginners are half the fun. In Sheffield village halls and university events, this format is especially popular because it gets everyone involved without awkwardness.

How to Choose the Right Irish Band in Sheffield

Not all Irish bands are created equal. When browsing, we recommend checking:

    • Live performance videos
    • Reviews from similar events
    • Set list flexibility
    • Experience with your specific event type

    Ask questions like:

    • Can you adapt to our audience?
    • Do you provide your own sound equipment?
    • How much space do you need?
    • Are you comfortable leading a ceilidh section?

Why Booking Through Poptop Makes It Easier

Let’s be honest. Planning events can spiral into endless tabs, unanswered emails and vague quotes. That’s exactly what we wanted to fix.

    A Genuinely Friendly Experience

Our suppliers aren’t just talented. They’re professional, engaging and warm. They know how to read a room and make guests feel included. That friendly attitude changes everything. It’s the difference between watching a band and feeling part of something.

Time is precious. Instead of waiting days for quotes, you see clear, all-inclusive pricing straight away. That means decisions happen in minutes, not weeks.

    A Personalised Event

Your vision matters. Whether you want more upbeat folk, a longer ceilidh section or a specific Irish classic included, flexibility is part of the package. Great suppliers adapt their performance to suit you.

    Calm, Clear Communication

No guessing games. You’ll know what’s booked, what’s confirmed and what happens next. That clarity removes the low-level anxiety that can creep into event planning.

    Everything in One Place

Need more than just a band? Poptop brings all your event services together in one marketplace. It saves you hopping between sites and juggling separate contracts.

    Confidence and Protection

Every supplier is vetted. If something unexpected happens, we’ll find a suitable alternative. There’s also a money-back guarantee in place, so your booking is secure.

Practical Tips for a Smooth Irish Band Booking

Before confirming your Irish band in Sheffield, run through this checklist:

    • Confirm performance duration and breaks
    • Check arrival and setup times
    • Ensure there’s access for loading equipment
    • Clarify payment schedule
    • Confirm any special song requests

If you’re hosting outdoors, also agree a weather backup plan. Small details make a big difference.

Creating an Event That People Actually Remember

Irish live music has something other formats don’t. It’s participatory. It invites people in. In Sheffield especially, where crowds are friendly and up for a laugh, an Irish band can:

    • Break the ice quickly
    • Encourage cross-generational dancing
    • Create proper communal moments

It feels authentic rather than manufactured. And that authenticity sticks in people’s memories. Whether it’s a birthday where three generations end up in a ceilidh circle, a university event where strangers become mates, or a local fête with children dancing near the stage, the atmosphere is genuine.

If you’re searching for Irish bands in Sheffield, we’d love to help you get it sorted without stress. All we need is:
