Booked for Birthday party
Shahid and his sister were so professional, great contact throughout, so no worries about coming and delivering as promised. The food was great, all the guests complimented service, portion size and taste. I honestly enjoyed having them at my home as they were so friendly and helpful. Clean and tidy leaving everything as it should be. I would definitely not hesitate having Banana Leaf again, they were great, thank you!

Great service and communication throughout the booking process. I was a little stressed due to the last minute booking for the party but it was handled very professionally. The food was amazing, with a wide variety of food and all set up very nicely especially considering the small space available. My guests all loved the food and the portions were incredibly generous. A lot of people asked for the contact details which is the highest form of praise! If you love Indian food you won’t be disappointed. I’d highly recommend green apple catering. Thank you Pam and team

"Very friendly and approachable people with excellent customer service and focus.
Excellent communication prior to and during the event to establish arrival time and drinks required for the party.
Superbly effective and professional looking portable bar which perfectly enhanced the room.
Good range of drinks with intention of extending bar hours past midnight if required.
Considerate and generous to my partner's needs throughout the evening.
Thank you both for providing the bar for my partner's 50th birthday party. It was a superb evening and we have had many, many compliments from those who attended who said how much they enjoyed themselves. This wouldn't have been possible without you, and I would also like to extend my appreciation to you for checking that Cathy was alright at the end of the party. We have been recommending you to some others in the village, so hope to see you again in the future. Once again, thank you and our very best wishes for a successful business."
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Hiring Indian Caterers in the UK: The Essential Buyer’s Guide
If you are searching for Indian caterers in the UK, you are in the right place. We have planned hundreds of celebrations with Indian food at the heart of the day, from village weddings and milestone birthdays to school fairs and corporate roadshows. This guide walks you through menus, prices, logistics, and the small details that make service smooth. Poptop is not just a party planning marketplace; it’s the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable event, with peace of mind and proper support at every step.
Why Indian Catering Works Brilliantly for UK Events
Indian food suits crowds, mixed tastes, and a wide range of dietary needs. You get flavour, colour, and variety without scaring off guests who prefer a mild plate. It scales well for 40 or 400, and it fits casual street-food service as neatly as a white-tablecloth banquet. Most important, it delivers familiar favourites next to new dishes for the adventurous few, so everyone leaves happy.
Service Styles at a Glance, With Realistic Price Ranges
We keep three formats front and centre, as they cover nearly every brief and venue. Use them as a starting point when you compare quotes and plan your budget.
Street food stall, great for fairs, roadshows, and outdoor parties, usually £11–£20 per person depending on the combo, portion count, and travel.
Buffet with chafing dishes and a staffed line, a strong pick for weddings and birthdays in halls or marquees, usually £16–£28 per person depending on menu breadth and service time.
Banquet with plated service or a family-style spread, suited to stately homes or formal receptions, usually £26–£44 per person depending on course count, canapés, and chef numbers.
Crowd-Pleasers That Never Fail
We always encourage a pan-regional mix, so your menu speaks to as many palates as possible. One rich dish, one greener dish, rice, bread, and a crunchy side keeps the balance right.
Signature mains that read well on any menu: butter chicken for the comfort-seekers and saag paneer for a hearty vegetarian option. If you want a third anchor, a tomato-based chicken tikka masala or a coastal fish curry covers more ground.
Carbs that soothe and stretch your budget: basmati rice, jeera rice, or a gentle pilau. Add a bread option so guests can mop up sauces without queuing twice.
Fresh sides so plates feel lighter: kachumber salad, a cooling raita, and a crisp poppadom basket.
Heat ladder with a mild route for kids: label spice levels clearly and provide a truly mild children’s choice. A kids’ mild curry, plain rice, and naan, plus cucumber sticks and mango yoghurt, solves most small-guest scenarios.

We use a variety of large pans: paella pans & Korai'is up to 3 ft across, large woks, and casserole pans so it is very visual. Guests watch the food being cooked and then serve themselves straight from the pans. We offer authentic food from around the world. With over 40 years of experience, we can offer virtually any recipe as we are happy to research even the most obscure foods.
About supplier
With over 40 years experience in the outside and event catering business (we started when we were really 'cutting edge' because we used frozen burgers; everyone else was using tinned), we can cater in any location. We love serving a large number of guests in the middle of a field with no facilities.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
Vegetarian and vegan by design: saag paneer or a dairy-free chana masala keeps things inclusive. Make sure ghee and butter are flagged on the allergen sheet.
A Practical Plan for Each Event Type
Village weddings
Village weddings love a relaxed service rhythm. A late-afternoon buffet or family-style banquet keeps the day moving and avoids a formal plated rush. Add canapés that travel well during photos. Confirm power for warmers, a prep tent next to the marquee, and a rain-safe queuing plan. A tea and mithai corner makes a lovely evening touch without complicating service.
Milestone birthdays
For 50 to 120 guests in a village hall or garden, street food plus a two-dish buffet is both simple and celebratory. One meat, one vegetarian, rice, bread, and a crisp salad bowl is enough. Set clear drop-times for hot holding, and have a quick announcement plan so the room does not all queue at once. Pre-order takeaway tubs for leftovers if your venue allows it.
School and charity fairs
Speed is everything on a school field. Choose a compact street-food menu with two or three items that can be assembled in under a minute. Card reader, float, compostable packaging, and a well-marked queue line avoid chaos. Check for site access times, no-vehicle zones, and where your generator or power tie-in can sit without blocking pedestrians.
Corporate roadshows
Roadshows need consistency and brand-safe presentation. A modular street-food unit with two lines reduces wait times. Keep spice at medium and offer a no-allergen option. Confirm venue rules for cooking smells, extraction, and hot oil. If you are in office atriums, induction-only kit and a silent setup plan may be essential.
Choosing the Right Space
Marquees
Marquees give you flexibility and airflow. You will want hard flooring for the servery, a prep area with lighting, and a safe path for staff carrying hot pans. Confirm where the caterer can park and how close power is to the tea urn, bains-marie, or induction tops.
Village halls
Village halls are perfect for buffets. Walk the route from kitchen to servery and check the width of doors. Ask about the hall’s tables and linen so you are not renting extras without need. Confirm waste policy in advance.
Sports grounds
Sports grounds are built for volume. A street-food line works well near the touchline or stand. You will need wind-resistant signage, clear cable ramps, and a bad-weather queue plan. If you plan late service, check floodlighting times.
Stately homes
Stately homes expect discreet service and tidy back-of-house. Opt for a banquet or family-style service with coordinated table drops. Limit strong smoke or open-flame kit unless the venue explicitly allows it. Build a longer load-in and load-out schedule to respect site rules.
Dietary Planning, Including Gluten-Free and Halal
Gluten-free is achievable with careful bread and pakora choices, clean utensils, and labelled sauces. Halal requests are common, and reputable caterers will hold current certification and keep halal prep separate. You will want supplier proof ready for venues that request it and clear signage for guests.
The Gluten-Free and Halal Checklist
Ask for halal certification and a written description of storage, prep, and handling.
Request a labelled allergen matrix for every dish, including breads and sauces.
Confirm separate utensils and colour-coded boards for gluten-free prep.
Provide a no-allium or dairy-free option if you have guests who need it.
Pin the allergen sheet at the start of the queue and again at the buffet.
Brief your MC to invite anyone with allergies to speak to the chef before service starts.
Portion Maths and Guest Flow
For mixed-age crowds, 1.2 mains per person is a handy rule if you are offering choice. That means 120 mains for 100 guests when two dishes are on the line, which reduces the “we ran out of my favourite” problem. Bread moves quickly, so plan two pieces per person if you are serving saucy dishes. Split the buffet into two identical lines after the salad to halve queue time.
What Drives Price, Beyond the Menu
Headcount and duration of service, lunch and dinner or one service window.
Menu complexity, more dishes or premium proteins.
Staffing level, buffet line staff, banqueting team, chefs on show.
Travel distance and access times, early load-ins and late finishes increase costs.
Kit requirements, induction units, hot holding, generator hire if the site has no power.
Sample Budgets That Map to Real Briefs
School or charity fair for 200, street-food menu with two items, service for three hours, usually £11–£16 per person.
Milestone birthday for 80 in a village hall, buffet with two mains, rice, bread, salad, usually £18–£24 per person.
Village wedding for 120 in a marquee, family-style banquet with canapés, usually £30–£40 per person.
Corporate roadshow stop for 150, fast street-food service, usually £14–£20 per person depending on site rules and timing.
Smart Questions to Ask Before You Book
Which dishes are your fastest to serve, and how many covers per hour can you achieve.
What is included in the price, staff, serving ware, napkins, waste removal.
How much power do you need, and can you switch to induction if gas is not allowed.
How do you label allergens and manage severe allergy requests on the day.
What are your arrival, setup, and breakdown timings for this venue type.
What is your wet-weather plan for street-food service in the open.
How We Make the Process Feel Easy
We believe great catering should be as stress-free as possible, and our approach reflects that from the first search to the final plate.
A truly friendly attitude, our suppliers are chosen for warmth and professionalism, the kind who chat to your nan while serving a perfect plate. You get a service that feels human as well as polished, and your guests feel looked after.
Plan your party in minutes, not days, instant, all-inclusive pricing means you can make a decision now rather than waiting for quotes that never land. Messages are answered quickly, and the admin stays light.
Get an event that is uniquely yours, menus flex to your needs, from a kids’ mild menu to a vegan main that does not feel like an afterthought. We help you tailor the flow so it fits your running order, not the other way round.
Relax and plan without the anxiety, clear comms and simple status updates remove the guesswork. You always know where things stand and what happens next.
Find what you need effortlessly, put in your date, guest count, and postcode, then compare fully costed options that actually fit your brief.
Discover everything in one place, food, drink, entertainment, and extras sit in a single marketplace, so you are not juggling five tabs and three spreadsheets.
Host a party that people remember, our marketplace leans into services that feel special, which helps you deliver a celebration that stands out for the right reasons.
Book with confidence, you are protected by careful supplier vetting and a clear fallback plan. If anything goes wrong, we find a suitable alternative, and our money-back guarantee covers you.
Making Your Menu Inclusive Without Losing Flavour
Degrees of spice can be handled with a clear sign system. Keep one very mild dish and one medium dish, then offer chilli oil or chopped green chillies on the side. For allergens, document everything in writing and appoint one staff member as the allergy lead. Serve gluten-free portions first if you are using shared lines, which reduces cross-contact risk.
Final Tips From the Field
Two smaller buffets beat one giant snake, duplicate the line after salads to cut queues in half.
Announce service in waves, top table or kids first is fine, just avoid a rush.
Put hand-washing or sanitiser near the start of the line, especially outdoors.
Hold a few insulated boxes for late arrivals, nobody should miss dinner for a speech.
Keep a couple of vegetarian portions in a separate hot box so they do not disappear early.
