⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️100% recommend FOOD GENIE - Vicky was very professional - super friendly- food was amazing you could tell it was fresh and excellent quality. Any dietary issue was accommodated, going out of her way to ensure two of our guest had gluten free options which they were delighted to have at the event - EVERYONE is still talking about how good the food was. The van itself was very smart and clean - the standards Vicky set were high - no mess - super tidy - perfect.
The children at the event couldn’t wait to get their food - food choices were pleny - meal sizes were generous. We made a very good choice to pick FOOD GENIE for our event and would use again.
Well done Food Genie - we were impressed

Absolutely fantastic! Fish and chips were absolutely delicious, and great portion sizes too. All our guests loved the novelty of going up to the van to collect their fish and chips, and everyone commented on how tasty it was. All communication prior to the event was very smooth and easy too. Utterly delicious, and a fabulous alternative way to feed a crowd for a wedding or large celebration - everyone loved it. Thank you!

Absolutely best thing I have ever done for our family parties!!! No hassle for me preparing food for so many guests - Frying squad turned up on time, prepared food on time, all hassle free!!!
All good was of amazing standard, probably some of the nicest fish and chips I’ve had!! Everyone had nothing but praise to say! Plenty of food cooked, many of my guests went back for seconds and even thirds!!!
Would most definitely be hiring the Flying Squad again, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Brilliant. Lovely pizzas. Came, did the job they were supposed to in the area provided. Everyone loved the pizzas. Would use again in a heartbeat.
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Hire a Fish and Chip Van in London: the complete buyer’s guide
If you want a crowd to relax, smile, and actually eat the food, fish and chips is a sure thing. It is familiar, it is comforting, and it suits London down to the ground. From riverside rooftops to creative warehouse spaces, a fish and chip van brings hot, crispy goodness straight to your guests without a faffy sit-down service. In this guide we walk through the event types that suit it best, the spaces that work well, menu choices from classic to “posh chippy”, pricing, logistics, and how to book with confidence.
Why London loves fish and chips on wheels
London events need food that is fast, friendly, and easy to serve across mixed groups. A fish and chip van ticks all three. The aroma draws people in, the queue moves quickly, and there’s no complicated plating. For planners, it is simple to set up, reliable in all weather, and scales from intimate weddings to busy corporate gatherings. It also photographs well, which matters when you’re sharing highlights with the team on Monday.
When a fish and chip van is the perfect fit
Corporate summer parties where you want relaxed service and short queues.
Film and TV crew lunches when call times shift and service needs to be flexible.
Wedding evening food for guests who need a hearty pick-me-up once the dancing starts.
School fairs where you want family-friendly classics that sell themselves.
Where it works best in London
Office courtyards and car parks with space for a van to pull in and set up.
Urban gardens where the van can sit at the perimeter and serve into the space.
Warehouse venues that suit industrial styling and easy in-out access.
Rooftops with lift access, where a compact gazebo or cart set-up can replace a full van if vehicle access is limited.
Before you lock in a site, check entry routes, turning circles, height limits, and any restrictions on external catering. A quick site plan saves headaches later.
Menu styles, from East End to “posh chippy”
You can keep it classic or dial up the polish. Both go down well in the capital, it just depends on the mood you want.
East End classic: salt and vinegar, pickled eggs, mushy peas, curry sauce, chip shop gravy. Nostalgia in a box.
Posh chippy: sustainably sourced, line-caught fish, upgraded sides, homemade tartare, lemon wedges, and crisp herb seasoning.
Walk-about cones: smaller portions in paper cones, easy for standing receptions and networking.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
If you want a menu that nudges sustainable choices, ask about daily catch options and rapeseed oil for frying. London crowds notice the details.
Pricing in London: what to budget
For London events, plan for £12 to £18 per person. Where your quote lands depends on guest numbers, location, access, menu upgrades, and length of service. Cones are often at the lower end, premium fish with extra sides sits nearer the top. Minimums may apply for small groups. If you keep food choices focused and service windows tight, you get more value per head.
How service actually runs on the day
Fish and chip vans are designed for throughput. Batching, hot holding, and well-drilled service mean the line moves fast and food stays crisp.
Typical service window is 1.5 to 2 hours for a medium group, with prep on site before guests arrive.
Guests choose between two or three options, collect from the hatch, and move on. It keeps flow smooth.
For walk-about service, staff circulate with cones or chip trays so the queue never forms in the first place.
Let suppliers know if you plan to release guests by department or table. Staggering arrivals creates a calmer service and better texture in every box.
Venue and access essentials to confirm
Vehicle access and parking for the van, including time limits and loading rules.
Power availability if you want to avoid generators, otherwise agree a generator plan.
Lift dimensions if the service must move upstairs in a compact set-up.
Shelter options during wet weather so your serving window stays usable.
Waste and recycling points so packaging is cleared without fuss.
A five-minute call and a couple of photos of the site are usually enough to sign off access. The best suppliers will ask smart questions. It is a good sign.
Dietary needs and allergens handled well
A strong London menu is inclusive from the start.
Gluten-free: batter can be adapted and fryers separated on request. Confirm in advance so oil plans are set.
Vegan and vegetarian: battered or grilled halloumi, plant-based “fish”, loaded chips with vegan sauces.
Halal: chicken options or separate fryers can be arranged. Share requirements early.
Allergens: fish, gluten, and egg are the obvious ones. Ask for allergen sheets and clear on-site signage.
When in doubt, pre-select a safe set of options for those who need them and label them clearly at the hatch.
Sustainability that feels genuine
Guests in London are tuned in to sourcing and waste. Look for:
Responsibly sourced fish and transparent supplier information.
Recyclable or compostable packaging that is sturdy enough to handle sauces.
Oil recovery and recycling.
Sensible portion sizing to reduce waste, plus a plan for leftovers.
If you care about the footprint, keep your menu tight. Fewer variations mean less waste and faster service.

Book with confidence and complete security

Make it feel unmistakably London
Lean into East End flavours. Offer pickled eggs, proper curry sauce, and malt vinegar on every counter.
Dress the hatch with subtle London cues. Think understated street signage, not tourist props.
Choose walk-about cones for networking events so people can mingle and keep conversations flowing.
Add a premium fish option for senior guests, and keep a classic choice for the rest of the crowd.
If you’re on a rooftop with lift access, consider a compact cart or gazebo rig. It keeps the look neat and avoids heavy vehicle concerns.
Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
Vague access details: share entry photos and any height or width limits. It avoids delays at the gate.
Overlong menus: more choice slows service. Two mains and a couple of sides deliver better quality.
No wet-weather plan: even a simple canopy over the queue keeps service fast and guests happy.
Ignoring allergens: ask for the allergen sheet and agree signage early. It protects guests and staff.
Serving too late: if you wait until very late at a wedding, queues clash with peak dance time. Start service shortly after the first wave of dancing kicks off.
How to brief your supplier like a pro
Share the postcode, site photos, and a simple sketch of where you want the hatch.
Confirm your earliest access time, noise rules, and where the generator can sit if needed.
Choose two mains and keep sides clear and labelled.
List dietary needs and approximate numbers for each category.
Note any speeches, awards, or entertainment so service can pause and resume smoothly.
The more precise your brief, the better the result. Suppliers love clear information. It lets them focus on quality.
Final tips that make a big difference
Put sauces out at multiple points. One sauce table creates a second queue.
Offer napkins twice. Once at the hatch and again a few metres away. People always miss the first.
Keep bins visible and emptied. Crisp packaging needs a tidy plan.
Add a simple sign with the menu and allergen note. It speeds decisions and reassures guests.
If photos matter, serve the first five portions for the camera, then shift to pure speed.
