Black Velvet came to play at our Christmas Party for our CrossFit Gym held in the farmhouse on the site; they were easy and helpful to deal with from the start; everything clear and simple to follow. The performance was perfect for the occasion and Mike and his colleague were easy going and a pleasure to have around. They spent time with a guest who wanted to learn how to play one of the instruments and were great for getting people up and dancing. Thoroughly recommend Black Velvet!

The O'Marleys were the perfect band for my Irish Father-in-law's 80th birthday party. They were so friendly and entertaining and all the guests loved the music. Communication before the event was easy and prompt after booking. I would recommend them without hesitation to anyone interested.

The duo were very easy to deal with answering emails very promptly. At the event they were great playing all the Irish traditional songs along with some more recent ones. They played any requests we asked for on the night and were very easy going and amenable.Ths event was my father's memorial in a small intimate venue and they were the perfect choice as they played while people were talking yet added a warm ambience to the proceedings People gave me feedback that they were a great find. Thanks to them both for adding something special to our evening.

Kelly's hero's were absolutely brilliant, they made our night. Everyone was asking how I had found them, I will definitely book them again. Thank you lads. Fantastic.

Very talented musicians & great for St Patrick's Night. Wasn't everyone's cup of tea & would have liked a few more tunes that we all knew and coukd dance to, but on the whole we had a positive feedback.

We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies

We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.

Irish bands in Leeds, booked the clever way

If you are hunting for an Irish band in Leeds that can start with a friendly session feel and finish with a floor full of happy faces, you are in the right place. Leeds loves a good get together, and Irish music fits perfectly with the city’s mix of student nights, family weddings and easy going office parties. From hotel ballrooms in the centre to barns tucked just outside the ring road, we know how to match the right lineup to the space, the crowd and the budget so everything feels effortless on the day.

Poptop is not just a party planning marketplace. It is the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable event, with peace of mind and support at every stage. You see instant, all inclusive pricing, you get quick responses, and we keep the logistics under control so you can get on with the fun bits.

When an Irish band is the perfect fit in Leeds

Irish music is warm, social and adaptable. It is the easiest way to bring different ages and friendship groups together without forcing it. In Leeds it works brilliantly across:

  • Student events where you want a quick icebreaker that gets everyone chatting, then a proper dance later.
  • Summer weddings that begin with acoustic charm and build to a caller led ceilidh for mixed ages.
  • Office parties that need a light touch during food and speeches, then an upbeat set that lifts the mood.
  • Graduation weeks where families, friends and course mates meet for the first time and need a shared activity.
  • Birthday gatherings when you want something more memorable than a playlist, but still friendly to every age.

If your guest list ranges from toddlers to grandparents, or your colleagues have never danced together, an Irish band is clever glue. It gets people smiling within a few bars, then invites them to join in at their own pace.

Lineups and styles that suit Leeds spaces

Leeds venues reward bands that sound big without taking over the room. Irish outfits are ideal because the instrumentation is agile and the sets can be shaped to the timeline of your night.

  • Trio for receptions and ceremonies. Guitar, fiddle and bodhrán or cajón keep the atmosphere bright without swamping conversation. Perfect for hotel ballrooms and the Irish Centre or community venues where space is at a premium early on.
  • Caller led ceilidh. Three to five musicians plus a dedicated caller who explains the steps and brings everyone in with good humour. This shines in larger rooms and barns where you can form sets comfortably.

We are able to provide differing atmospheres for different occasions. We enjoy playing raucous, high-energy shows but are equally happy playing a beautiful ballad as a bride strolls down the aisle. Our sets are always catered to the event that we're playing. Behan's Footsteps have been playing Celtic music for as long as they could walk. We know how to make people dance, and we know how to make them cry!

  • Upbeat trad pop covers. A four piece that starts with reels and jigs, then leans into familiar vocal numbers for the late set. Great for student events and office parties that want singalong choruses.
  • Compact dance lineup. If your room is cosy, a trio with a confident vocalist still carries a dance block with ease, especially in venues that prefer controlled volume.
  • A quartet is the sweet spot for most briefs in Leeds, because it covers acoustic welcomes, ceilidh sections and singalong finishes without needing a huge stage or complicated tech. If the floor area is tight, a trio still sounds surprisingly full in lively rooms.

What it costs to hire an Irish band in Leeds

Professional Irish bands in Leeds and West Yorkshire typically sit between £650 and £1,250. Your quote will reflect a few practical decisions.

    • Number of musicians. Trios are leaner, five piece bands sit higher.
    • Time on site. Two sets of 45 to 60 minutes is standard. Extra sets, split setups or late finishes change the figure.
    • Caller included or not. A caller is a specialist and worth the fee if you want guaranteed participation.
    • Equipment. Some bands bring full PA and simple lighting, others connect to a house system.
    • Date and demand. Graduation weeks, prime summer Saturdays and December dates go early.
    • Logistics. Access, parking and rural setups add a small, clear cost that we set out at the start.

On Poptop you see instant prices based on your date and postcode. Adjust the brief and you see the change straight away, which keeps decisions quick and stress free.

Ceilidh with a caller, explained for first timers

Plenty of Leeds hosts love the idea of a ceilidh but have never run one. Here is what to expect.

    • The caller teaches each dance in plain language, no prior experience needed.
    • Dances last five to eight minutes, confidence builds with each tune, and the room finds its rhythm quickly.
    • For big floors, the caller picks patterns that travel well. For smaller rooms, they choose compact figures so nobody bumps a table.
    • One ceilidh block can be enough to hook the whole room. Add a second later if you want a big shared finale.
    • Mixed ages are not a problem. In fact, ceilidh is designed so kids, parents and grandparents can take part together.

Think of it as a friendly group activity with live music, not a formal lesson. The result is laughter, conversation and a stack of photos you will keep.

Sound and setup notes for Leeds venues

Every space has its quirks. A little planning keeps things smooth and protects the vibe.

    • Hotel ballrooms. These spaces reward tidy staging, controlled volume and crisp changeovers around speeches and service. A quartet with a small PA and discreet lighting feels polished without being flashy.
    • Irish Centre and community venues. You will often have a generous floor and a crowd that loves a singalong. A caller led block in the middle of the night is a guaranteed winner.
    • Barns outside the ring road. Stable flooring helps percussion and stops kit from sinking, power should be checked well in advance, and simple uplighting keeps the band visible as the sun goes down. Have a friendly weather plan in case the Yorkshire summer keeps you guessing.
    • Graduate dinners and student unions. A lively ceilidh taster early on breaks the ice, followed by a second dance set later. Keep the first set slightly shorter so guests settle in and find their mates.
    • Sound limiters. Many venues use them. Experienced Irish bands work within limits and still keep the energy high, especially with semi acoustic setups early in the night.

Share access routes, lifts, parking rules, curfews and any house sound policies. We will brief the band and coordinate with the venue so there are no surprises on the day.

Example running orders that work in Leeds

Use these outlines as a starting point. We will tailor the details to your timings, your space and your guests.

    Student events

    • Arrival hour with upbeat instrumentals so friends can catch up.
    • Short welcome from the committee, then a fifteen minute ceilidh taster to loosen the room.
    • Social time with food and photos, backed by light instrumentals or a playlist.
    • Main dance set with caller, then a final run of trad pop covers that deliver big choruses.

    Summer weddings

    • Ceremony music by an instrumental duo or trio for aisle walk and exit.
    • Drinks reception with a gentle trad session feel, bright enough to lift the mood but easy on conversation.
    • Dinner and speeches with background music. The band resets.
    • First dance live if you wish, then two evening sets with a caller led ceilidh block in the middle so every generation gets involved.
    • Finale with singalong tunes that bring families together.

    Office parties

    • Networking hour with subtle instrumentals.
    • Icebreaker ceilidh of ten to fifteen minutes, simple patterns and lots of encouragement.
    • Awards or short speeches, underscored if needed.
    • Final set that builds steadily to a feel good finish, then playlist tracks while people chat.

    Graduation weeks

    • Welcome set as guests arrive from the ceremony, bright but not overpowering.
    • Photo window with instrumentals, then a short ceilidh block once the room has settled.
    • Final set with vocal numbers so parents, friends and course mates can join in together.

    Birthday gatherings

    • Curated early playlist built around the guest of honour’s favourites.
    • Two shorter live sets rather than one long one, to leave space for toasts and cake.
    • A last half hour that leans into familiar choruses everyone can sing.

    Repertoire planning and special touches

A strong Leeds Irish band will blend tradition and familiarity, then shape the order to suit the room.

    • Early session feel. Reels, jigs and instrumentals for arrivals and photos.
    • Acoustic covers. Ideal for ceremonies, welcome drinks and meals.
    • Upbeat trad pop. Vocal led numbers that keep the floor moving in the late set.
    • Family friendly choices. Clean lyrics, sensible themes and tempo control so everyone feels welcome.
    • Special requests. Most bands will learn one or two songs that suit their instruments. Share these early so the arrangement lands smoothly.

Tell us your must plays and any songs you would rather avoid. We will brief the band so the set reflects you, not a fixed list.

    Smart extras and upgrades

A couple of thoughtful additions can transform the flow without breaking the budget.

    • Add a caller. Essential if you want ceilidh sections to sing, especially for beginners.
    • Early setup. If you want the stage looking complete before guests arrive, request an earlier load in.
    • Ceremony duo. A simple, elegant way to add music to the key moments.
    • Lighting bundle. Modest stage lighting keeps the band visible and sets the tone.
    • DJ finish. If you want a very late end or genres beyond the band’s sweet spot, we can add a DJ after the live sets.

How to shortlist Irish bands in Leeds quickly

A few checks help you choose with confidence and avoid surprises.

    • Watch videos that show both quiet reception work and full dance sets. Dynamics matter more than a highlight reel.
    • Read reviews from events that look like yours. Ballrooms, community halls and barns all behave differently.
    • If ceilidh is essential, prioritise bands that list a dedicated caller and talk about teaching first timers.
    • Confirm what is included. PA, simple lighting, arrival times, set lengths and public liability insurance should be clear.
    • Ask for a sample running order for your timings and layout. The best bands explain how they will shape the night, not only what they play.

If two options feel close, the band that communicates promptly and answers venue questions clearly is usually the safer bet.
