Booked for Wedding

We had the pleasure of Oscar and Barney perform at our wedding. We both have irish heritage and were really looking for an authentic 'irish bar' experience for the change around time. Oscar and Barney we're so accommodating allowing us to select a more flexible option for what we wanted in terms of timings to fit in to our day perfectly. They were very happy to make our irish bar vision come to life! So many people came up to us after about how fantastic they had been. We couldn't recommend them enough.

David and his musicians were fabulous. Everything happened on time, and they had barely started when everyone jumped up to dance. They read the crowd perfectly and no one wanted to tear themselves away!

The duo were very easy to deal with answering emails very promptly. At the event they were great playing all the Irish traditional songs along with some more recent ones. They played any requests we asked for on the night and were very easy going and amenable.Ths event was my father's memorial in a small intimate venue and they were the perfect choice as they played while people were talking yet added a warm ambience to the proceedings People gave me feedback that they were a great find. Thanks to them both for adding something special to our evening.

Booked for Wedding

Thank you so much for making our wedding the party of the year - everyone loved the music! Black Velvet Band played at our wedding reception and they were brilliant. I had worried whether people would want to dance to Irish music but I shouldn't have. Everyone loved the music! We had a real proper Irish Hooley, with lots of dancing, singing-along and some humour in-between. As this was a marriage of cultures (English, Irish and Dutch) we were also touched that the band played a couple of traditional Dutch songs, allowing the Dutch to have a good sing-along as well. And when my dad asked if they could accompany him for a song to sing after his speech, it was no problem. The guys in the band are proper musicians who can play what the crowd needs to keep the party fuelled. The only complaint I have had is from my knees - which are still complaining, even after 4 days rest! Next time, I will wear trainers.

We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies

We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.

Hiring Irish Bands in Glasgow: A Proper Buyer’s Guide

If you’re searching for Irish bands in Glasgow, you’re in the right city. This is a place that knows its folk music, loves a good knees-up, and isn’t shy about filling a dancefloor. From weddings and ceilidhs to university socials and big birthday blowouts, an Irish band brings energy, warmth and a bit of organised chaos in the very best way.

We’ve helped plan more Glasgow parties than we’ve had hot dinners, so here’s our straight-talking guide to booking the right Irish band for your event, without the stress.

Why Irish Bands Work So Well in Glasgow

Glasgow and Irish music are a natural fit. The city’s strong Irish heritage and thriving live music scene mean audiences know what they’re listening to and they’re ready to get involved. When you book Irish bands in Glasgow, you’re not just hiring background music. You’re booking a full-on experience.

Expect:

  • Fiddle-led reels that get feet moving within seconds
  • Singalong classics that bring generations together
  • Proper ceilidh sets with clear, confident calling
  • The option to add a DJ combo set to keep the party rolling

Whether it’s a wedding in a grand hall, a university event in a club, or an outdoor celebration on a green space, Irish folk and ceilidh music delivers atmosphere instantly.

The Types of Events Irish Bands Suit Best

Let’s break it down. Not every act suits every event, so it’s worth thinking about how Irish bands in Glasgow typically shine.

Weddings

Irish wedding bands are hugely popular across Glasgow. They’re brilliant for:

  • Evening receptions where you want high energy
  • Mixed-age guest lists
  • Couples with Irish family ties
  • Dancefloor-first celebrations

A typical format might include two live sets packed with upbeat folk favourites and ceilidh dances, followed by a DJ set to take you through to the small hours. It keeps momentum high and gives you the best of both worlds.

If you’re planning a wedding in one of Glasgow’s larger halls, make sure your band is comfortable filling the space. Most experienced Irish bands bring professional PA systems and lighting suited to mid-to-large venues.

Ceilidhs

If your aim is a full-blown ceilidh night, Irish bands in Glasgow are well equipped. Many offer experienced callers who guide guests through each dance clearly and confidently.

Lift the Roof Off Your Party with the 'Rock-Ceilidh' Band

5.0(7 reviews)

Lift the roof off your party with the rock-ceilidh band! We mix well-known rock riffs amongst traditional ceilidh tunes on our electric instruments and we give full instructions using fun-filled banter to make sure everyone can enjoy the dancing. We entertain guests in Central Scotland, in hotels, huts, castles, and under canvas. Although we often do 100% ceilidh, disco also comes with the package - many clients prefer 'rock' ceilidh until half-time and then disco to finish the evening.

About supplier

After many years playing with ceilidh bands both in Ireland and Scotland, award-winning Northern Ireland-born fiddle player, Mary Gristwood, started the Rock Ceilidh Band in 2014 combining her two favorite music genres - rock and trad.

Mariachi Bands(8)
Latin & Salsa Bands(13)
  • A band with a strong rhythm section
  • Clear, friendly dance calling
  • A balanced set list of reels, jigs and crowd favourites

Ceilidhs work brilliantly for community events, winter balls, and milestone birthdays. The joy is in the participation. No one needs to be an expert. In fact, a bit of confusion is half the fun.

University and Social Events

Glasgow’s student scene is lively to say the least. Irish folk and ceilidh bands are a great fit for:

  • Freshers’ events
  • Society balls
  • End-of-term parties
  • Cultural celebrations

Students love something interactive and high energy. A live band offers a more memorable alternative to a standard DJ-only night. Add a DJ combo set after the live portion and you’ve got a seamless transition from folk floor-fillers to club classics.

Choosing the Right Style of Irish Band

Not all Irish bands in Glasgow are the same. It’s worth understanding the differences before you book.

Traditional Folk Focus

These bands lean into authentic Irish folk. Expect fiddle, bodhrán, acoustic guitar and strong vocals. Perfect for weddings and events where atmosphere matters just as much as dancing.

Ceilidh-Heavy Line-Ups

If you want structured dancing and clear sets, choose a band that advertises ceilidh experience. The caller makes all the difference here.

Irish Band with DJ Combo Set

This option is increasingly popular. The band performs two live sets, then switches to a DJ-style finish. It saves you booking separate suppliers and keeps your schedule tight.

Think about your guest list. Do you want non-stop dancing? A mix of listening and dancing? Or a full participation ceilidh? Your answer will guide your choice.

Venues in Glasgow: What to Consider

Irish bands in Glasgow regularly perform in halls, clubs and outdoor green spaces. Each comes with its own considerations.

Halls

Large halls are perfect for weddings and ceilidhs. They offer space for dancing and usually decent acoustics. Check:

  • Power supply and access
  • Noise restrictions
  • Stage or performance area size

A good band will ask these questions early on. It’s a sign they know what they’re doing.

Clubs

Clubs suit university and social events. They often have in-house sound systems, but not always the right setup for live folk instruments. Confirm whether the band will bring their own equipment or use the venue’s system.

Outdoor Green Spaces

Summer events on Glasgow’s green spaces are magical. Irish music outdoors has a festival feel. However:

  • Power sources must be arranged
  • Wet weather plans are essential
  • Sound levels may be restricted

Experienced Irish bands will be used to adapting to outdoor setups, but it’s worth discussing logistics early.

What Does It Cost to Hire Irish Bands in Glasgow?

Let’s talk numbers. For most weddings, ceilidhs and social events in Glasgow, you can expect pricing between £700 and £1,400.

Where you land in that range depends on:

  • Band size
  • Event duration
  • Day of the week
  • Travel and setup time
  • DJ combo inclusion

A smaller trio playing two sets may sit towards the lower end. A larger band with full lighting and DJ add-on will be towards the top.

It’s always worth being clear about timings and expectations from the start. Transparent pricing makes life easier for everyone.

Questions to Ask Before Booking

When hiring Irish bands in Glasgow, don’t be shy. Ask the practical questions.

  1. How long are your sets?
  2. Do you provide a caller for ceilidh dances?
  3. Is lighting included?
  4. Can you adapt your set list?
  5. Do you offer a DJ finish?
  6. How much setup time do you need?

The best bands are friendly, organised and clear in their answers. If communication is smooth from day one, that’s usually a good sign for the event itself.

Making the Experience Truly Yours

No two events are the same. The strongest Irish bands will happily tailor their approach.

You might want:

  • A first dance arranged in a folk style
  • Specific Irish favourites included
  • A mix of traditional and modern songs
  • A shorter live set and longer DJ section

Your vision matters. A good band listens first, then builds the night around you.

How to Plan Quickly Without the Headache

Let’s be honest. Planning a wedding or large social event in Glasgow can feel overwhelming. Comparing suppliers, waiting on quotes, chasing emails. It adds up.

That’s where using a straightforward platform makes all the difference. You enter your date, guest numbers and postcode, and instantly see Irish bands in Glasgow that match your needs. Clear pricing means you can make decisions quickly. No waiting around for mystery figures.

It turns a task that could take days into something you sort in minutes.

Confidence and Security Matter

Booking live music is an investment. You want to know your Irish band will turn up on time, fully prepared, and ready to deliver.

Reliable platforms vet their suppliers carefully. If something unexpected happens, there’s support in place and alternatives found where needed. Add in money-back protection and you can book knowing you’re covered.

That peace of mind is worth its weight in gold, especially when you’ve got a hundred guests turning up expecting a party.

Creating a Night People Will Actually Remember

Let’s be clear. Anyone can stick on a playlist. Not everyone can create a moment.

Irish bands in Glasgow bring:

  • Live interaction
  • Proper crowd engagement
  • Laughter during ceilidh calls
  • Big singalong finales

It’s the difference between background music and a shared experience. When guests are still talking about the dancefloor weeks later, you know you made the right choice.

Practical Planning Tips

A few final bits of advice from us:

  • Book early for peak wedding season
  • Confirm finish times with your venue
  • Allow space for dancing
  • Brief your band on your crowd

If your guest list includes lots of non-dancers, a balanced mix of listening tracks and structured ceilidh dances works well. If it’s a student-heavy crowd, lean into high energy from the start.
