Booked for Wedding
Thank you so much for being able to accommodate us on the wedding of my son! What with atrocious weather causing extensive flooding that weekend and having to postpone the wedding from the Saturday night until the Sunday, we were more than grateful that the band was still willing and able to perform on the Sunday. Great music and excellent calling made the evening, with all participants thoroughly enjoying themselves - sometimes with a little over enthusiasm!
I highly recommend this band to any future clients booking. The band were more than helpful - especially Jennie with all my questions and the band on the day were superb. All good wishes, Phyllis Steele

Booked for Corporate Function
Black Velvet were excellent and really added to our Irish themed evening. Lots of very traditional music. The guys were very flexible and last minute added in a Ceili set without prior knowledge which was appreciated by all and added to the fun of the evening. Very highly recommended.

We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Hiring Ceilidh Bands in Glasgow: A Local Buyer’s Guide
If you’re searching for Ceilidh Bands in Glasgow, you’re already on the right track. This is a city that knows how to throw a proper party. From lively weddings to raucous Burns Night suppers, a Glasgow ceilidh isn’t background music. It’s the main event.
We’ve worked with countless Scottish celebrations over the years, and if there’s one thing we can tell you, it’s this: the right ceilidh band can turn a good party into a legendary one. The wrong one can leave your guests staring awkwardly at their shoes while the fiddler plays to himself. No one wants that.
So here’s our expert guide to hiring a ceilidh band in Glasgow, written to help you book with confidence and plan without the stress.
Why Glasgow Is Made for a Ceilidh
Glasgow isn’t shy. It’s bold, musical and fiercely proud of its heritage. A Scottish ceilidh with strong Highland influence feels completely at home here.
Whether you’re planning:
A wedding with a traditional Scottish twist
A milestone birthday or private party
A full-scale Burns Night event with poetry, haggis and a dram
A live ceilidh band brings people together in a way a playlist simply can’t.
Glasgow guests don’t need much encouragement to get on the dance floor. Add a confident caller, a driving fiddle and a tight rhythm section, and you’ll have every generation spinning through Strip the Willow before you can say “Dashing White Sergeant”.
Events That Suit Ceilidh Bands in Glasgow
Weddings with Highland Flair
Glasgow weddings often blend classic elegance with proud Scottish roots. A ceilidh band is perfect for couples who want that Highland influence woven into their big day.
Many couples choose:
A ceilidh set after the first dance
A mixed evening of ceilidh and modern covers
A short ceilidh ice breaker to get guests mingling
The beauty of a ceilidh at a wedding is that it removes awkwardness. You don’t need to be a trained dancer. The caller talks everyone through it. Suddenly your uni mates, your aunties and your boss are all in one giant circle laughing together.
Private Parties That Actually Feel Like a Party
Planning a 40th, 50th or engagement party in Glasgow? A ceilidh band ensures it feels special rather than “DJ in the corner”.
In city hotels, local halls or traditional bars, a ceilidh band gives structure to the night. It creates moments. It builds energy. It gets people talking. And crucially, it gives your guests something to do. No one is stuck hovering by the buffet.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a ceilidh band for hire in Glasgow?
On Poptop, a ceilidh band will cost you anything from £750 to $1,100. However, because it depends on your desired band, this is not a set pricing. The number of band members and travel expenses are some of the elements that affect the cost. When you search through the list of ceilidh bands in Glasgow available for instant booking on Poptop, you can submit the specifics of your event, including the event date and location, to receive an immediate quotation.
What is the band lineup?
The ceilidh band for hire consists of a fiddler, an accordionist, and a "caller" who assists everyone in getting into the groove and learning the dances. The size of the band varies. You can expect at least 2 to 8 members in a band, with each member having their unique roles. However, in addition to other instruments, line-ups may feature guitars, drums, keyboards, and whistles. They specialize in upbeat and spirited Scottish ceilidh, American songs, traditional Irish music, and contemporary English songs.

Lift the Roof Off Your Party with the 'Rock-Ceilidh' Band
5.0(7 reviews)
Lift the roof off your party with the rock-ceilidh band! We mix well-known rock riffs amongst traditional ceilidh tunes on our electric instruments and we give full instructions using fun-filled banter to make sure everyone can enjoy the dancing. We entertain guests in Central Scotland, in hotels, huts, castles, and under canvas. Although we often do 100% ceilidh, disco also comes with the package - many clients prefer 'rock' ceilidh until half-time and then disco to finish the evening.
About supplier
After many years playing with ceilidh bands both in Ireland and Scotland, award-winning Northern Ireland-born fiddle player, Mary Gristwood, started the Rock Ceilidh Band in 2014 combining her two favorite music genres - rock and trad.

Curated suppliers

Burns Night events in Glasgow take tradition seriously. You’re not just booking music. You’re curating an experience.
A quality ceilidh band for Burns Night should:
Understand the tone of the evening
Work smoothly around speeches and the Address to the Haggis
Deliver traditional sets with real authenticity
The Highland influence matters here. Look for bands with traditional instrumentation such as fiddle, accordion and pipes, and musicians who genuinely know their Scottish repertoire.
Typical Venues in Glasgow
Glasgow offers fantastic spaces for ceilidhs. Each comes with practical considerations.
Glasgow Halls
Community halls and larger function spaces are brilliant for big, energetic dances. They give you room to breathe and space to spin.
What to check:
Stage size or performance area
Sound restrictions
Floor type for dancing
Wooden floors are ideal. Carpet is less ideal. Let’s just say Strip the Willow on a thick carpet becomes a workout.
City Hotels
Hotels in central Glasgow are popular for weddings and corporate events. They’re convenient and often well-equipped.
Ask about:
Sound limiters
Load-in access
Finish times
A professional ceilidh band will be used to working around these details. Still, it’s always wise to confirm early.
Traditional Bars
For smaller, more intimate ceilidhs, traditional bar spaces create unbeatable atmosphere.
These suit:
Birthday parties
Engagement celebrations
Informal Burns Night gatherings
Space is tighter, so guest numbers and layout matter. A good band will adapt their line-up to suit the room.
What Does a Ceilidh Band in Glasgow Cost?
Let’s talk numbers. For Ceilidh Bands in Glasgow, you’re generally looking at £900 to £2,000 and above.
The price depends on:
Band size
Performance length
Travel
Whether they include a caller
Peak dates such as summer Saturdays or Burns Night
Smaller line-ups may sit at the lower end. Larger, premium bands with multiple sets and extended hours will naturally cost more. Our advice? Don’t choose on price alone. A cheap band that lacks energy or experience can cost you far more in atmosphere.
What to Look for When Hiring a Ceilidh Band
A Strong, Confident Caller
The caller is the glue. In Glasgow especially, guests will get involved quickly if someone is leading with confidence and humour.
You want someone who:
Explains clearly
Keeps the energy high
Reads the room
A great caller turns nervous guests into enthusiastic dancers within minutes.
Authentic Highland Sound
If you’re leaning into Scottish tradition, check the band’s musical style.
Do they specialise in traditional Scottish sets?
Do they have fiddle-led arrangements?
Do they understand the cultural side of Burns Night?
Authenticity makes a difference.
Flexibility
Make sure your band can tailor their set to suit your vision. Your event should feel uniquely yours, not like a generic template. Some events need:
A short ceilidh followed by a DJ
A mix of ceilidh and covers
Specific traditional dances included
How to Make Your Ceilidh Run Smoothly
Here’s our insider checklist:
Confirm the space required for dancing
Allow time for simple soundcheck
Plan the running order with speeches in mind
Brief the band on guest age range
If you’re hosting a mixed crowd with lots of non-dancers, tell the band. They can adapt their set to keep things inclusive and light-hearted. And if you’re planning a Burns Night celebration, share your full schedule early. Timing is everything.
Why Booking Through Poptop Makes It Easier
We know that planning an event can spiral into endless emails and slow replies. That’s not fun for anyone.
Plan Your Party in Minutes
Your time matters. You can see instant, all-inclusive pricing and check availability quickly. No waiting days for vague quotes.
Find Everything in One Place
If you’re booking Ceilidh Bands in Glasgow, chances are you might also need catering, décor or photography. Instead of jumping between sites, you can organise it all in one convenient marketplace.
Relax Without the Anxiety
Clear communication means you know exactly what’s happening and when. No chasing. No guessing. Just straightforward planning.
Enjoy a Friendly, Professional Service
We choose suppliers for their attitude as much as their talent. A ceilidh band should feel welcoming and engaging. Your guests deserve more than just background music. They deserve an experience.
Get Something That Feels Personal
From adapting the playlist to including your favourite traditional dances, flexibility matters. The best events reflect you.
Book With Confidence
Every supplier is carefully vetted. And if anything unexpected happens, we’ll work to find a suitable alternative. Your booking is protected, and your investment is secure.
Making Your Glasgow Ceilidh Unforgettable
If you really want to host a party that people talk about for years, focus on these three things:
Energy
Clarity
Flow
Energy comes from the band. Clarity comes from a confident caller. Flow comes from good planning. Get those right, and your ceilidh won’t just be a dance. It’ll be a highlight of the year.
Glasgow crowds bring warmth and humour to the dance floor. All you need to do is give them the right soundtrack.
Ready to Book Your Ceilidh Band in Glasgow?
If you’re planning a wedding, private party or Burns Night, now’s the time to secure your date. Popular weekends and January events book quickly. Can a ceilidh band in Glasgow provide PLI & PAT certificates?
To ensure their safety, the majority of ceilidh bands in Glasgow are required to submit PLI & PAT certificates before playing an event. Safety is a top priority for our suppliers, who make sure that all equipment is well-maintained and tested before usage. If necessary, ceilidh bands will present a PAT test certificate. While it is understandable to be worried about your guests' wellbeing and the success of your event, you need to let the ceilidh band know that they must present a PLI certificate before the event. During the booking procedure, you can get confirmation from the provider.
