We had such a great experience with Stuart from Wrap and Bun.
In the lead up to the event Stuart provided a number of different options for each course of the seven course tasting meal and was very open to any changes we might want to make.
On the day Stuart arrived on time, got straight to work preparing and serving the food and left the place spotless afterwards.
The food quality was fantastic and enjoyed by the whole party.
Would highly recommend to anybody thinking about going ahead!

From start to finish Ed was responsive and helpful. We had a super evening celebrating our younger daughters’s 30th Birthday. Ed catered for a recently diagnosed coeliac too at quite short notice. The food was just amazing and Ed was friendly and informative about the food he was serving us. Highly recommend Ed - thank you!

Excellent from start to finish. Food was great, all 5 courses and the Chef was happy to talk us through each dish. Really great value for money, definitely recommend!
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Stress-Free Festive Feasting Across the UK: Go Private Chef
Because December is chaos dressed in tinsel. Restaurants are full, set menus feel identical, the one cousin who promised to “help with the cooking” is mysteriously unreachable, and your barn, farmhouse or holiday cottage kitchen is about to be stress-tested by twelve hungry people and one tiny oven. Hiring a private chef for Christmas lets you stay put, eat restaurant-quality food, and actually enjoy your own party. You get classic roast centrepieces, game pies, slow-cooked joints, hearty veggie mains and even a buffet breakfast for the next day, without a single spreadsheet or panic defrost at 6 am.
Poptop is not just a party planning marketplace; it’s the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable Christmas, from the first enquiry to the final clean plate. Instant pricing, vetted chefs, responsive support, and a money-back guarantee mean you can focus on the roasties, not the risks.
The Most Common Christmas Private Chef Bookings Across the UK
Big family farmhouse feasts
Long tables, roaring fires, and the sort of menu that makes people immediately loosen their belts. Expect slow-cooked joints, proper gravy, and a pudding that shuts the room up for a full two minutes.
Barn and cottage Christmas parties
Groups who’ve rented a picturesque spot and want a chef who can bring half the kitchen with them. Menus lean generous, nostalgic and shareable. There’s often a next-day breakfast or brunch baked in too.
Multi-day holiday let catering
You eat brilliantly for the entire long weekend. Arrival night sharing pies, the big Christmas meal next day, then buffet breakfasts and leftovers engineered into something that feels new.
Venues That Work Brilliantly (with a Few Practical Notes)
Barns
Huge charm, big groups, sometimes small ovens. Chefs will often bring induction hobs, warming drawers, and their own pans to keep service smooth.
Farmhouses
Usually well equipped with enough space to plate properly. Great for traditional roasts, big puddings and post-lunch collapse on the sofa.
Holiday cottages and Airbnbs
Varies wildly. Some have brilliant kitchens, others barely a baking tray. Be transparent. Chefs can solve most problems if they know about them early.
What’s on the Menu (and Why It Travels So Well)
Classic roast centrepieces
Bronze turkey crowns, dry-aged beef, glazed hams, whole cauliflowers or beetroot Wellingtons for plant-based guests. All with trimmings that feel like they were cooked by someone’s very talented gran.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
Game pies and slow-cooked joints
Feeds a crowd, holds heat beautifully, and carves like a dream. Venison pies, pork shoulders, lamb shanks, all the comforting, wintry things.
Hearty vegetarian mains
Beetroot or mushroom Wellingtons, nut and root veg terrines, celeriac steaks with miso gravy, chestnut and cranberry stuffing baked as its own star.
Rich, nostalgic desserts
Steamed puddings, set custards, trifle reimagined without losing the custard, and cheeseboards stacked with British artisan wheels.
Breakfasts for the morning after
Buffet spreads with shakshuka pots, breakfast pies, buttery pastries, porridge bars with winter compotes, or simply reheated leftovers engineered into something suspiciously new.
Pricing: What You Should Really Expect
The UK benchmark sits around 50 to 100 pounds per person, plus travel and any minimum spend the chef sets. The final number depends on five main levers.
Number of courses
50–70 per person
Three courses, classic roast centrepiece, dessert with proper sauce.
70–90 per person
Four to five courses, or three courses plus canapés or cheese.
90–100+ per person
Six to eight course tasting menus, intricate patisserie, multiple dietary tracks executed at the same level.
Ingredients
Premium joints, aged beef, game, artisan cheeses and complex plant-based substitutes lift the price.
Simpler seasonal menus with slow cooks and sharing dishes often deliver huge value without sacrificing flavour.
Staffing
Chef only is the most affordable for smaller groups.
Servers usually sit around 120–180 each for the evening, with hourly rates if the party runs long.
Bartenders and sommeliers are typically 180–300, excluding the actual cost of drinks or pairings.
Your kitchen, your kit
Well-equipped farmhouse kitchen: usually no extra cost.
Tiny cottage oven or minimal hobs: chef may bring induction burners, warming ovens or extra kit (50–200).
Crockery, cutlery, glassware hire if the venue is short: often 4–8 per person or a flat package fee.
Date pressure and minimum spends
Fridays and Saturdays in December, Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve can carry a 10–25 percent uplift or a higher minimum spend (commonly 600–1,200). Book early to keep choice and costs friendly.
Travel, Delivery and Rural Realities
Travel time and mileage are usually priced on top for rural locations.
Access matters. Barns with long tracks, tight country lanes or limited parking should be flagged early. Chefs will plan van size and timing accordingly.
Remote holiday lets sometimes need extra refrigeration or staging areas. Ask the chef how they’d like to handle this.

Book with total confidence
Vetted suppliers, responsive support, money-back guarantee. If anything wobbles, there’s a solid plan B.
Dietary Requirements, Allergens and Leftovers Planning
Share every allergy and dietary preference up front
Be specific: vegan is not vegetarian, gluten-free is not coeliac
Ask how cross-contamination is handled if needed
Request clearly labelled menus or cards for restricted diets
Confirm that alternative dishes are like-for-like in quality, not second-tier backups
Discuss leftovers: what’s safe to keep, what reheats well, and whether the chef can portion or label for you
Drinks and Pairings: What Actually Works in Barns, Cottages and Holiday Lets
BYO with chef guidance is common and cost-effective
Simple pairing structure works: welcome fizz, one white, one red, dessert wine or digestif
For larger groups or fancy barns, consider a sommelier or curated pairing flight
Breakfast service the next day pairs nicely with low or no-alcohol options so people can drive or walk in a straight line
Before You Book: The Honest Kitchen and Venue Checklist
How many hobs do you actually have?
Is your oven big enough for a large roasting joint or Wellington?
Do you own enough plates, forks and glasses for all courses?
Is there counter space for plating, or should the chef bring a folding table?
Do you have parking, loading access or tricky stairs to contend with?
Are there noise or curfew rules (common in rural spots and holiday lets)?
Questions to Ask Your Chef
Could you send over the full proposed menu, broken down course by course?
How do you cater for guests who are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free or coeliac?
What exactly is covered in the fee – just the chef, or service staff as well?
Which items of kitchen equipment will you need us to supply on site?
When will you arrive, and what time do you plan to serve the meal?
Can you bring extra plates, cutlery and glassware if we don’t have enough?
What’s your policy on cancellations or last-minute changes to guest numbers?
Is the post-service clean-down included so we wake up to a spotless kitchen?
Are add-ons like canapés, next-morning breakfast or a Boxing Day buffet possible?
How do you charge for travel, mileage and more remote venues?
Spot the Good, Swerve the Bad
