Tom Piper's Hog Roast were fantastic. We contacted them at late notice to cater for our wedding event and they did such a good job. They were also really happy for us to request a few changes to their usual menu to cater for specific dietary requirements too, and the food was delicious! Especially the chips and the delicious marzipan and cherry cake. Theresa and the servers were super friendly and set up and packed up with a minimum of fuss. We even got to keep the leftover lamb and pork! We would definitely recommend Tom Piper's Hog Roast for any events and we wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Great food and fantastic service. Special thanks to Dave too for organising everything with us. We live in New Zealand and it's difficult to set up a wedding in the UK from there. However, he made everything nice and simple which was such a massive help. Thanks again Dave!

Next Day Wedding Afterparty. Fantastic pizzas, superb set up. The only problem was, I should have ordered more pizzas as guests were going back for more and we ran out of bases earlier than planned. Feedback from our guests was excellent , praising the standard of food and the well mannered chef. The horsebox certainly contributed to a brilliant day. The garden was left spotless and the horsebox departed discreetly. I would thoroughly recommend Vines’ Pizzas for any outdoor party. Wishing the business well for the future. Bringing the Heat to Manchester: Your Guide to African Event Catering

A city built on innovation, music, and a proper sense of community. It’s a place that does things its own way, and that’s especially true of its food scene. We’ve moved way beyond the curry mile; today, it’s all about vibrant, independent, and seriously tasty food that reflects the city’s creative soul.

And that’s why we’re seeing a massive buzz around African catering for events across Greater Manchester. It’s bold, it’s exciting, and it’s the perfect fit for a city that isn’t afraid to stand out. If you’re tired of the same old sausage rolls and want to give your guests an experience they’ll be raving about for weeks, you’ve come to the right place.

From the industrial chic of a converted mill to a cool bar in the Northern Quarter, African cuisine can transform your event. We’re here to give you the full lowdown on how to find and hire the best African caterers in Manchester, making the entire process a breeze.

Why Choose African Food for Your Mancunian Bash?

Let's be honest, Mancunians know good food, and they appreciate something with a bit of character. Standard, stuffy event catering just doesn't cut it here. Choosing an African menu is a brilliant way to capture that energetic, independent spirit.

  • It’s a Flavour Revolution: You’re giving your guests something genuinely exciting. The depth of flavour in a Nigerian Jollof or the smoky kick of Ghanaian Kelewele is a world away from a bland canapé.
  • It’s Incredibly Social: Much of African cuisine is built around sharing. Think large platters, street-food style service, and dishes that get people talking and mingling. It naturally creates a relaxed, communal atmosphere.
  • It Caters for Everyone: With a huge variety of meat, fish, and incredible plant-based dishes, it’s easy to build a menu that keeps everyone happy, including your vegan and vegetarian guests.

Manchester's Vibe: Street Food, Sharing, and Spice

While you can find the whole spectrum of African cuisine, the Manchester scene really leans into a relaxed, modern, and street-food inspired vibe. Here’s a taste of what’s proving popular for events right now.

The Street Food Buzz: Grills and Suya

This is a real crowd-pleaser and perfect for the city's informal, social events. Live cooking stations are a fantastic way to add a bit of theatre to your party.

  • Suya Skewers: Imagine the incredible aroma of spiced, grilled meat or chicken wafting through your venue. Suya is a classic Nigerian street food, and serving it fresh from the grill is a sensory experience that gets everyone excited.

Specialising in the South African Boerie roll (a take on the hot dog), we serve flame-grilled, locally produced farmers' sausages (beef & pork) in soft rolls at events and markets across the area. Our other speciality is our Vegan Bunny Chow - a Durban curry, served hot in a crusty roll. While our recipes are inspired by South African tradition, we source our ingredients locally to ensure the freshest quality in every bite. We can’t wait to introduce this unique culinary experience to the UK.

  • Jerk Chicken & Pork: While Jamaican in origin, the Caribbean's fiery, flavour-packed grilling style is often offered by pan-African caterers and fits the street-food theme perfectly. It’s smoky, spicy, and utterly addictive.
  • Plantain: Fried sweet plantain is the ultimate side dish. It’s the perfect sweet and savoury counterpoint to spicy grilled meats and rich stews.
  • The Communal Feast: Vegan-Friendly Ethiopian Spreads

If you're looking for something that’s inclusive, visually stunning, and a bit different, an Ethiopian-style spread is a fantastic option.

    • Injera and Wats: The centrepiece is injera, a large, spongy flatbread. It’s topped with a colourful array of delicious, slow-cooked stews called 'wats'. Many of these are naturally vegan, made with lentils, chickpeas, spinach, and other vegetables, making it an effortless way to cater for dietary needs without anyone feeling like they’re missing out. Guests tear off pieces of injera to scoop up the stews, making it a fun, interactive, and communal way to eat.

Late-Night Bites for the Music Scene

Manchester and music go hand in hand. If you’re hosting a late one at a bar or music venue, why let the energy drop when the band finishes? Keep the party going with some African-inspired small plates. Think spicy chicken wings, mini meat pies, puff-puff (sweet dough balls), and other tasty bites that are easy to eat while standing and chatting.

Finding the Right Flavour for Your Event

The industrial mills, creative galleries, and quirky bars of Manchester provide the perfect backdrop for the vibrant colours and flavours of African food.

    • Urban Weddings: Hosting your big day in a converted mill or a loft space? Ditch the formal three-course meal. A relaxed, family-style buffet with a live suya station and platters of jollof rice will feel modern, fun, and totally in keeping with the venue's cool aesthetic.
    • Office Socials: If you’ve hired a private space in a Northern Quarter bar, you need food to match the vibe. A selection of African street food and small plates is perfect for encouraging your team to mingle and relax. It's a million miles from lukewarm pizza and will get everyone talking.
    • Graduations and Community Festivals: These events are all about celebration and bringing people together. Large, generous buffets or Ethiopian sharing platters served in a community hall are affordable, inclusive, and create a wonderful, celebratory atmosphere.

What's the Damage? A Look at the Costs

One of the best things about opting for African catering in Manchester is the incredible value for money. You get a huge amount of flavour, quality, and character without breaking the bank.

You can typically expect to budget between £16 and £34 per person.

For smaller events, most caterers will have a minimum spend, which usually falls between £800 and £1,600. The final quote will vary based on your guest numbers, menu choices, and the style of service you opt for.
