A lively folk/gypsy/ceilidh band with tunes from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, America and England.
We are available for performing concerts, barn dances (or ceilidhs) at pubs, festivals, weddings, birthdays, BBQ's or any other party!
We perform a range of music (both songs and tunes) from a broad repertoire and era from traditional folk to 70's and 80's rock!
We can cater for Scottish 'flavoured' Ceilidhs, although for most Barn Dance/ Ceilidhs we would keep it mixed to allow dancers of all experience levels to enjoy themselves.
Our aim is to 'entertain, not educate', it should be fun after all!

Black Velvet Ceilidh Band Trio includes some of the most experienced folk musicians and the best dance callers in the South West. Look forward to punchy jigs and reels, played with panache and a dance caller who gets everyone involved, from ceilidh “newbies” to experienced dancers and makes sure that it’s a great fun event. A ceilidh or barn dance is a brilliant ice breaker at a wedding, birthday or family party. Want a Scottish ceilidh? The band has an excellent repertoire of Scottish tunes and the caller will include “Strip the Willow” and “The Dashing White Sergeant”. Want to go Irish? Irish jigs and reels underpin an Irish ceili, with dances such as “The Siege of Ennis” and “The Bridge of Athlone”. The ceilidh trio is led by virtuoso fiddle player, Mike Evans, supported by either guitar or accordion and a dance caller who will walk you through the dances then call out the moves as the music strikes up. Add more musicians for a larger...
Dawntreader are a powerful and dynamic Ceilidh Band (Barn Dance, Folk Band) with Caller.
We are a 3 piece Ceilidh Band playing English, Irish, Scottish and some European music. Our mix of traditional folk music with strong melodies and powerful rhythms is ideally suited to Ceilidh and Barn Dances.
Debs, our Caller has 15 yrs of experience in Calling with Ceilidh Bands and has Dances to suit all abilities, including some fun dances for the little ones. She has been the resident Caller with the Dawntreaders since 2009, and has grown with the Band into a highly professional Wedding Ceilidh Caller, although she is equally at home with a local village hall Party. (check the review from The Royal Marines Burns Night recently)
Our Musicians are :-
Lynn Fiddle : I don't need to say much about her playing, the music sample speaks for itself. She is a gifted Musician with ability rarely seen at this level. She plays a 5 string Fiddle, which gives her...
SPINACH FOR NORMAN is a long-established West Country folk band. We’ve been fuelling ceilidhs, barn-dances, weddings and all kinds of celebrations with jigs, reels and heart-broken airs for years. And we’re proud to say that almost every booking has followed a recommendation from a satisfied customer.
Unless you only want background or listening music, SPINACH comes with a caller to teach and lead the dances. Our regular caller is PAM HAYES. She’s hugely popular, great with adults, children, experienced and inexperienced dancers alike. She’ll add some dances from around the world into the mix if you want her to, and she can even call in French.
I am enquiring regarding the availability of your band for our Christmas party nights at UWE Bristol on the 16th and 17th of December for our public party nights.
If you are able to advise on your availability and costs attached that would be prefect. We would be looking for you to play 2 x 45 min sets per night from 9pm (depending on dinner service running on time). We would look for you to be set up by 06:00 and we would then provide you with a hot meal, or buffet prior to your set.
If you could let me know if this would be possible on our dates that would be fabulous.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Indoors. Venue is the updoor floor of M Shed (and outside balcony).
Ideally want a band (+DJ) from 8:30 - 12:30 ish. Appreciate that will include 90 minutes or so of DJ'ing whilst the band isnt playing. 3 sessions of playing preferred than 2 slots.
We have the venue from 6:30pm-1am. Envisage real interest in band from 8:30pm-9pm.
We are not in Bristol.. The request form, just doesn't have anywhere close to choose.
I came across your page on this site. We quite like your music.
We are planing a wedding in a tipi, in a tiny village in Cumbria. Its about an hour from Leeds.
Weddings are expensive, so we were staring to think we might not be able to get a band. We really want to. This page suggests you might do it for £400? Its not totally about price. There are plenty bands that will work for less than you that we wouldn't want to have.
Anyways, give me a shout if you can help.
Hi Pthere ....
I'm looking for a band to play at my 40th birthday party on 1st August and was wondering whether you were available?
Details are as follows:
Venue: Coalpit Heath Cricket Club, between Yate and Downend - near Bristol
Guests: Approximately 100
Times: 8pm to 12pm
Set up: anytime from 3pm
Music: 2 x 40 - 60 minute sets focussing on modern danceable pop / indie / rock anthems - nothing classic or cheesy
There are changing facilities including showers available and there's catering on the night with plenty of food to go around!
We are getting married in West Pennard near Glastonbury, it will be a tipi reception in the gardens of a family home. It would be great if we could receive a quote for our wedding, it would be good to see all the options available but I think we would ideally be looking for a 4 piece band to play 2 x 45min sessions.
Looking for a rock band to play at our Student welcome opening Party )FUSION ROCK'S) at Fusion Tower Bristol for the 12th of February. Not on a massive budget but we can throw in free accommodation, food and drinks on top of it. Great advertising and professional photographer on site! 😉🎸🎤🎺
I'm interested in having a swing band for my partners 30th birthday party in Bristol. We will likely have a small function room, for about 40 people, but it has no PA so that would need to be supplied.
I am looking for a mariachi band to come to the office next Monday and play at people's desks to cheer them up.
As it is Blue Monday! A bit of fun for the staff.
We are based in Bristol very close to the train station.
Are you available on the 16th January?
I work at EF Bristol Language School and I am looking to hire a band/solo artist one day during the summer. I am looking for something fun and lively, but also something that doesn't take up too much space.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, we are looking for a live duo to play at our tipi wedding in Backwell this summer. We would ideally like someone to play outside for an hour for welcome drinks and set a louge/laid back vibe and then play again in the evening (1-2hours) to start the party - more contemporary, like you have on the website to listen to. You have a great voice! Are you available and how much would this cost?
I sent you an email via another website but wanted to go via two channels, just incase!
Richard and Climax were fantastic, we found them to be very professional and the music they played was really good.
I would highly recommend this band to everyone, and I can promise you will not be dissapointed.
Also I would like to add that we had a lot of fun and so did the band.
If you want a good band and good music then book Climax.
Presumably 1 is low and 5 is high? (I should like to offer the top score!)
We booked Mariachi Rey for a wedding "oop North" to play after the ceremony and before the wedding breakfast. Having thought about that long pause you get at weddings between the photographer and the wedding breakfast, we decided to include something a little different that the guests would enjoy and that would help ease the day along.
As we finished taking the photographs, right on cue, Mariachi Rey entered the function room to gasps of delight from the guests as the band went through their repertoire.
It worked perfectly, the hour long performance bridged that awkward gap, all the guests made the most positive comments and the enthusiasm of the musicians was reflected in the guests' smiles and dancing.
Having Mariachi Rey at the wedding was a delight and we would certainly book them again. We just need another wedding to sort out now!
