I do not yet have any photos. Gina was delightful. She came to the venue (in appalling weather) in good time to familiarise herself with it. She played beautifully and her playing and musicality was exceptional. All our guests commented on this. She blended into the room, was not obtrusive but lent an air of elegance. One of our guests is Irish and was especially complimentary. She was adaptable and charming. I would have no hesitation in using her again if I ever wanted an artist in similar circumstances. Miriam was such a delight to have play at our wedding. She accompanied the ceremony and drinks reception, and brought a real elegance to the day. She was incredibly accommodating regarding timings and where she was to play. Miriam also brought together a truly beautiful cover of one of our favourite songs for the bride to walk down the aisle to. We would highly recommend Miriam for any event.

Hiring a Harpist in the UK: The Complete Buyer’s Guide
Looking for a harpist in the UK for a wedding, a stately home weekend, or a relaxed marquee reception? Good choice. A harp brings atmosphere without fuss, elegance without ego, and music that works beautifully in almost any setting. In this guide we’ll show you how to choose the right player, what to expect for your budget, and how to make the most of a harpist at your event. We’ll keep it practical, friendly, and focused on real decisions you’ll make in planning.
Why a Harpist Works So Well
A harp is instantly impressive but never overbearing. It creates a warm, shimmering sound that guests can talk over, and it suits both grand halls and countryside barns. Players can cover classical favourites, film themes, folk tunes, gentle pop, and Celtic pieces. You get romance for the ceremony, light sparkle for drinks, and a cosy feel at dinner. If you want music that feels special and still easy to live with, a harpist is a safe bet.
Perfect Occasions for Harp Music
Destination weddings where guests are travelling for a full weekend
Stately home gatherings with drinks in the library and dinner in the ballroom
Marquee and barn receptions that need soft, acoustic-first styling
Intimate civil ceremonies at country hotels and estates
Afternoon teas, anniversaries, vow renewals, and micro-weddings
We’ve seen harpists carry an entire day’s soundtrack from prelude to last coffee. They slot in quietly, set up fast, and create the right mood at each step.
Venues That Love Harp
Barns that benefit from gentle, natural timbre rather than heavy amplification
Marquees and sperry tents where the acoustic carries nicely
Estates and castles where the instrument looks as good as it sounds
Country hotels with flexible indoor and outdoor spaces
City ceremony rooms that need elegant ambience without a bulky PA
If you’re working with a big stone hall or a carpeted function suite, a harpist adapts. The player will read the room and adjust volume, positioning, and repertoire.
Theme Ideas to Inspire Your Brief
Pastoral romantic, think light classical, cinematic themes, and soft love songs
Celtic harp options, lilting airs and reels for a gentle folk flavour
Acoustic-first styling, unplugged pop and film music arranged for solo harp
Regency-inspired ceremony sets, tasteful period pieces that feel timeless

Woodland and garden party playlists, nature-leaning tunes with a rustic twist
Give your harpist a theme and two or three must-plays, then let them shape the rest. They know how to pace a set so it never feels repetitive.
What You Can Expect to Pay
Most solo harpist bookings in the UK fall between £250 and £450 for typical wedding and private event slots. The exact figure depends on location, day of week, season, and set length. Longer peak-season Saturday bookings or travel to remote destinations may sit at the higher end. Short weekday ceremonies near the performer’s base often land lower in the range.
What Affects Cost
Performance length, for example 1 hour for a ceremony, or 2 to 3 hours for drinks
Travel time and mileage, especially for rural or island venues
Early load-ins or split sets across different spaces
Special requests, for example arranging a song that isn’t already in the repertoire
Adding a small PA if needed for larger rooms
We always recommend confirming the exact on-site timings before you book. It keeps the quote accurate and avoids creeping extras.
Repertoire That Works
A strong UK harpist will cover:
Ceremony essentials, processional, signing, and recessional choices
Light classical and film themes for drinks and canapés
Modern acoustic pop arranged for harp, from soft ballads to upbeat favourites
Celtic sets where you want a folk taste, perfect in barns, gardens, and marquee lawns
Background dinner music that sits neatly under conversation
Most couples choose a ceremony trio of one entrance piece, one or two signing pieces, and one exit tune. For drinks, ask for a mixed set that nods to your taste but stays broad enough for all ages.
Ceremony Planning, Simple and Calm
Here’s a clear approach that works:
Choose your entrance piece, usually a slow, lyrical tune that builds gently.
Pick one signing selection or two short ones, keep it relaxed so you can enjoy the moment.
Finish with a brighter exit piece as guests cheer.
Share any version preferences, for example a specific film arrangement rather than a classical original.
Arrive-and-Play Timing
The harpist typically arrives 60 to 90 minutes before guests.
Set up takes 15 to 25 minutes if access is easy.
The player will warm up quietly, then start prelude music around 20 minutes before the ceremony.
Drinks and Dinner, Keeping it Flowing
For a 90-minute drinks reception, ask for a varied set that mixes eras. People will ask, what was that piece, it sounded familiar. During dinner, aim for lighter selections at the start, then a touch more energy as dessert appears. If you’re planning speeches, the harpist can pause and restart without fuss.
Outdoor Playing, What to Consider
Harpists love a garden brief, though a few practicals help:
Provide shade, sun is rough on tuning and uncomfortable for the musician.
Keep the ground firm and level so the instrument sits safely.
Wind protection is helpful, even a modest screen reduces noise on the strings.
Have a wet weather fallback inside the marquee or the nearest covered space.
If the weather turns, a quick move indoors is usually fine. Build this into your plan so everyone stays relaxed.
Concert, Celtic, or Lever Harp
You’ll see two main types at events:
Pedal concert harp, the big golden one with the rich, orchestral sound. It suits formal ceremonies, grand rooms, and romantic ballads.
Lever or Celtic harp, a smaller, lighter instrument with a clear, folk-leaning tone. It shines outdoors, in barns, and for acoustic-first styling.
Both are beautiful. If your theme leans pastoral romantic or you’re in a large hall, the concert harp wins. If you want rustic charm and easy mobility between spaces, a Celtic harp is perfect.
Logistics You’ll Hardly Notice
Space, allow around 2 metres by 2 metres, plus safe access for the instrument
Power, often not required unless adding subtle amplification
Breaks, a short pause each hour keeps the performance fresh
Moves, the harp can be relocated between ceremony and drinks with a little help
Sound level, naturally low to medium, ideal for conversation and speeches
If you’re planning multiple spaces, we’ll map out the run through with the harpist so timing feels seamless.
How to Brief Your Musician
Share the essentials:
Date, venue location, and guest count
Running order, ceremony time, drinks duration, dinner start
Musical notes, two or three must-plays, any do-not-plays, and a general vibe
Practical details, parking, access, contact person on the day
Then trust the player to read the room and shape the set. The best moments happen when a musician can respond to your guests in real time.
Duo and Add-On Ideas
If you want a touch more colour without losing the intimacy:
Harp and violin for lyrical ceremony and graceful drinks
Harp and flute for light classical and film themes
Harp and voice for romantic ballads during the meal
These options stay acoustic-friendly and fit barns, marquees, estates, and country hotels neatly.
Sample Running Order That Just Works
Guests take seats, the harpist plays 15 to 20 minutes of prelude
Processional, one chosen piece for entrance
Signing, one or two gentle tunes
Recessional, a brighter piece to signal celebration
Photos and drinks outside, upbeat acoustic set with well-known melodies
Guests move to dinner, soft background harp as people settle
That arc feels polished and natural, and it keeps your day moving without rushing anyone.
