Margaret is exceptional! Honestly if your thinking about a violinist just book it and go with Margaret. Honestly made our whole day so special. Everyone complimented how beautiful her music was. It definitely added to myself crying seeing my bride walk down. The communication, timing and service Margaret provides is second to none. Honestly worth every penny!

Anna was very responsive by email before the event and made a helpful suggestion that improved my play list. On the day she played flawlessly and with real feeling. She was also very engaging and is a lovely person. Her presence and performance at the party made it a really special and memorable day and all my family and friends said how much they enjoyed it. I recommend her wholeheartedly.

Naomi was a brilliant addition to our garden birthday party. She took onboard all the song requests I made in advance, and helped keep the surprise from my husband. Including, hiding around the corner when he was in the wrong place at the wrong time! The only thing that let us down was the British Summer weather as Naomi couldn't play outside the whole time due to the rain!

We had a fantastic wedding which was in no small measure due to Fedora Strings. It was very easy to book and liaise with Roger about the timings, cost and other details. He even supplied a list of his repertoire so that we could make the appropriate choices. Payment was easy and clear. On the day he arrived in plenty of time and played before, during and after the ceremony. The music brought a magical quality to the day and ensured that we will never forget it. We thoroughly recommend Roger at Fedora Strings.

Rachel was an absolute professional. Her music was brilliantly played and I have to say made the difference from just back ground music. I really love her playing style and I will be recommending her at any given opportunity. First class 👍🏼

I booked them for my sister’s civil ceremony and couldn’t have been happier. Very professional. The music was lovely and just what we had asked for. I would highly recommend booking this quartet. They excelled in their etiquette and presentation.

We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies

We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.

Hire a Violinist in Manchester: The Buyer’s Guide

Manchester does live music properly. From canal-side drinks to candlelit ceremonies, a violinist slots into the city’s mix of industrial grit and creative polish with ease. If you’re planning a wedding in the city, a tech mixer in a refurbished mill, or a laid-back birthday in a warehouse loft, we’ll help you choose the right violinist, the right style, and the right setup. This guide covers the sounds that work best here, what affects price, how to brief your musician, and why booking through us keeps things simple and secure.

Why Manchester and Violin Go Hand in Hand

Manchester spaces have character. Brick, steel and tall ceilings set the tone, and a violin sits beautifully in that environment. Acoustic strings bring warmth for ceremonies and winter formals, while electric violin with backing tracks lifts the energy for receptions and indie-leaning birthdays. Because many venues are open-plan or semi-outdoor by the canals, portability matters too. A violinist can move between rooms, mingle with your guests, and keep the soundtrack flowing without fuss.

Events Where a Violinist Shines

  • City weddings, from intimate elopements to full-day celebrations with separate spaces for ceremony, drinks and evening reception
  • Drinks receptions for corporate and private events, where you want music that lifts the mood but still lets people chat
  • Tech or start-up mixers, showcasing modern electric violin with light beats, perfect for product launches and networking
  • Indie-leaning birthdays, think Manchester classics reimagined for strings, mixed with current pop
  • Winter formals, elegant and atmospheric, ideal for heritage rooms and seasonal menus

The Manchester Settings to Plan For

  • Warehouse lofts, great for electric violin and upbeat covers with tracks, add a compact PA for clarity
  • Converted mills, tall spaces that love strings, acoustic ceremony sets followed by amplified reception sets work well
  • Boutique hotels, refined rooms where a soloist adds polish at welcome drinks or dinner
  • Canal-side spaces, relaxed and photogenic, lo-fi acoustic sets suit daytime gatherings, electric violin lifts the mood after sunset

Styles That Fit the City

  • Pop and indie string covers, chart favourites with Manchester staples arranged for violin, recognisable and upbeat
  • Neo-classical, contemporary minimalism for calm ceremonies and thoughtful moments
  • Lo-fi and chilled sets, gentle beats and smooth melodies for networking and early-evening drinks

  • Upbeat with backing tracks, dance-ready without a full band, flexible volume and compact footprint
  • If you’re unsure which direction to take, we’ll help you pair style to setting. Acoustic works best for vows and quieter rooms, electric with tracks suits the after-party feel, and a blended approach covers the whole day.

What a Typical Set Looks Like

A solo violinist usually performs in 45 to 60 minute blocks. For weddings, plan one block for the ceremony, one for drinks, and an optional one during dinner. For mixers and receptions, two blocks with a short pause in between keeps energy consistent. Many Manchester violinists carry a wide repertoire, from classical to modern hits, and can learn a couple of special requests with notice.

    What You’ll Spend and Why

For Manchester, expect to budget between £220 and £500 for a solo violinist. Your total will vary with:

    • Peak date and time, Saturdays and late finishes tend to cost more
    • Location and travel, central and canal-side spots are straightforward, outside the ring road can add mileage
    • Electric or acoustic setup, electric with tracks may include PA hire and a longer soundcheck
    • Extra performance time, additional sets for dinner or an extended reception increase the fee
    • Special song requests, most violinists learn one or two at no extra charge, larger arrangements can be quoted

A common booking pattern is ceremony and drinks at the lower end of the range, ceremony plus drinks plus dinner in the middle, and a tailored electric showcase set or late finish nearer the top.

    Acoustic or Electric

Acoustic violin is intimate and timeless. It shines in heritage rooms, boutique hotels and winter formals. Electric violin expands your options. It blends with modern tracks, carries in big rooms, and keeps conversation comfortable because the player can control the volume. If your day crosses different spaces, we often suggest acoustic for the vows then electric for the reception.

    Solo Violin, Plus Options

A soloist does a lot with smart arrangements and tracks. If you want more texture, consider a violin and piano duo for ceremony and dinner, or add a cello for richer harmonies. For standout receptions, some Manchester violinists collaborate with a DJ, switching between roaming melodies and beat-driven features. Tell us your plan for the day and we’ll recommend the right format.

Sound and Setup in Real Spaces

    • Warehouse lofts, tall ceilings can cause echo, so a small PA placed close to guests keeps things clear
    • Converted mills, hard surfaces carry sound, acoustic sets travel nicely, electric needs careful volume control
    • Boutique hotels, compact rooms mean low volume and refined repertoire, a battery amp covers most needs
    • Canal-side spaces, allow for breeze and foot traffic, amplification helps consistency without raising the level too much

We’ll check power access, space for a compact PA, and where the musician will stand during entrances or toasts. This avoids last-minute shuffles and keeps your schedule smooth.

    How to Brief Your Violinist

Give your player the essentials and they’ll make it sing.

    • The vibe, three adjectives help, for example modern, romantic, relaxed
    • Must-plays and do-not-plays, especially for aisle walks and first toasts
    • Running order, ceremony start, drinks window, speeches, cake, first dance
    • Any cues, a signal for the entrance, a cut at a specific lyric, or a swell before the vows
    • Dress code, black tie, smart casual, or something on-brand for a launch
    • Practical info, guest numbers, room layout, and access details for setup

Send this at booking or soon after. We’ll add it to the brief and confirm back in plain English so everyone’s aligned.

    Sample Run-of-Show

    Weddings

    • Guests seated, prelude music for ten minutes, light classical or acoustic pop
    • Processional, chosen entrance piece at a steady tempo
    • Signing, two short tracks for photos and hugs
    • Recessional, a bright, celebratory number as you exit
    • Drinks, forty five minutes of contemporary covers with a couple of favourites learned for you
    • Dinner, softer set if you want a musical through-line

    Tech and Start-Up Mixers

    • Doors open, lo-fi beats and melodic hooks for the first half hour
    • Product moment, a feature track to mark the announcement
    • Networking block, thirty minutes of crisp, modern instrumentals at chat-friendly volume
    • Closing note, a final highlight track to wrap the night

    Indie-Leaning Birthdays

    • Arrival, relaxed indie covers to settle everyone in
    • Toast, a short feature piece for the speech
    • Party shift, electric violin with tracks for a lift, then back to chilled grooves as people chat
