Wow!, The service so much passed my expectations. David and his crew were awesome. They were all super friendly and attentive. The bar looked great. I had them for the 2 main days of my birthday , named bobfest, and there was a theme of skulls running through so I was so pleased when they embraced that theme too. Even my dog had his own treat bowl on the bar with his name and bobfest on it. The cocktails just kept flowing and they also went around with trays of cocktails and shots. I had so much positive feedback about both the service and the staff. They even setup a "hangover" bar midday with bloody marys and virgin marys which were a great success. I could not have been more happy with the service and would use them again in a heartbeat.

The afternoon tea was lovely and my friend really appreciated it, we both enjoyed it very much. One thing though the prosecco was extremely overpriced as those 2 small bottles, and that brand, should not be charged at £12, they cost a couple of pounds in the shops!

We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies

Afternoon Tea Catering in Manchester: A Straight-Talking Buyer’s Guide

Afternoon Tea is Manchester through and through. It is sociable, a bit indulgent, and flexible enough to slot into a busy city schedule. You can take it into converted mills and lofts, park it neatly in a brewery taproom with a function room, or roll it out in a suburban back garden without frightening the neighbours. Done well, it looks fantastic and tastes even better. Done cleverly, it stays within a sensible budget. Expect to invest around £18 to £32 per guest depending on the menu, service style, and any extras like prosecco or vintage china.

We have planned, styled, and delivered more Afternoon Teas than we can count across Greater Manchester. This guide gathers what actually works here, how to choose a supplier, and how to keep the day running smoothly from first brew to last scone.

When Afternoon Tea Is the Perfect Manchester Choice

Some celebrations just suit tea. These are the events where we see it shine in this city.

  • Hen parties. A relaxed daytime plan that everyone can get behind. Finger sandwiches and patisserie keep the group chatty and photo-ready. You can dial the fizz up or down depending on your vibe.
  • Birthdays. Daytime gatherings are popular in Manchester, especially for big family groups. Afternoon Tea gives you structure without formal dining.
  • Baby showers. Soft colours, inclusive menus, and a comfortable pace. No heavy cooking smells and no awkward seating plan.
  • Team socials. Offices love it for mid-afternoon breaks, project wins, or away days. It is neater than a hot buffet and keeps people bright for the final session.
  • Engagement teas. A sweet way to bring families together. It works in hotel suites and private rooms where you want a little polish without a full banquet.

Picking Venues and Spaces That Make Service Easy

Manchester offers brilliant spaces that set the tone for your tea. A few tips help you match the venue to the service.

  • Converted mills and lofts. High ceilings and brick walls make an instant backdrop. Plan sturdy tables for tiered stands and check lift access for equipment. The industrial look pairs nicely with simple linens and metallic cake stands.
  • Brewery taprooms with function rooms. These are social and relaxed. Confirm whether the venue allows external caterers and ask about glassware policy if you are adding prosecco. You will need clear signage for dietary needs when the room is busy.
  • Suburban gardens. A suburban plot becomes a charming tea spot with a bit of styling. Book a gazebo as backup, keep urns out of direct wind, and provide a small station for used cups and plates so tidying stays painless.

  • Hotel suites. Ideal for engagement teas and milestone birthdays. Electricals are usually straightforward, but check crockery policy and delivery routes. Some hotels prefer external suppliers to bring everything in and out within a tight window.
  • Themes With a Northern Twist

A smart theme pulls everything together and helps your photos look cohesive. These four fit Manchester beautifully.

    • Industrial-chic vintage. Think soft linens against brick, cut glass with clusters of greenery, and tiered stands with clean lines. The menu can be classic with a modern bite, such as smoked salmon pinwheels, cucumber with chive cream, lemon drizzle squares, and little raspberry tarts.
    • Cotton-mill heritage. Nods to the city’s history with neutral palettes, cotton ribbon napkin ties, and simple printed cards. Serve warm scones, Victoria sponge slices, and neat sandwich fingers. Keep the look uncluttered and let the textures of the space do the work.
    • Modern vegan or halal-friendly. Inclusive by design, not as an afterthought. Plant-based fillings, dairy-free patisserie, and halal-friendly savouries look every bit as elegant as traditional options. Label clearly and present as a complete tier rather than separate plates.
    • Prosecco tea. A celebratory spin for hens and birthdays. Tea is still the star, with a glass of fizz on arrival or a light spritz station. Keep it balanced so non-drinkers feel equally considered with iced tea and fruit infusions.

Building a Menu That Travels Well in the City

The best Afternoon Tea menus are simple, seasonal, and easy to eat while chatting. We favour small portions and clean flavours that hold up during transport.

    • Sandwiches and savouries. Cucumber with chive cream, free-range egg and cress, roasted pepper with hummus, chicken salad brioche fingers, and lightly smoked salmon with lemon butter. For vegan tiers, go bright and fresh with avocado and tomato relish, roasted vegetable focaccia, and chickpea smash with herbs.
    • Scones. The moment everyone waits for. If you can warm them on site, do. Serve with clotted cream and strawberry or raspberry jam. Vegan scones with coconut cream are surprisingly popular, so do not dismiss them.
    • Cakes and bakes. Mini Victoria sponges, lemon drizzle squares, chocolate brownie bites, fruit tartlets, and macarons. Keep sizes petite so guests can try a bit of everything without feeling overwhelmed.
    • Children’s options. Plain cheese or ham sandwiches, fairy cakes, and a fruit skewer keep young guests happy and parents relaxed.

Teas and Tipples to Keep the Pace Cheerful

Tea choice sets the tone and the scent of the room. Offer a core trio, then extend if your group is adventurous.

    • The reliable three. English breakfast, Earl Grey, and a gentle green tea.
    • Herbal and fruit infusions. Peppermint, chamomile, and a berry blend for a caffeine-free moment.
    • Iced choices. Lemon or peach iced tea for warmer days or bustling rooms where a cold option helps.
    • Prosecco pairing. If you are adding fizz, keep glasses small and separate the drinks station from the tea station to avoid congestion.

Service Formats That Suit Manchester Venues

Different spaces call for different service styles. Pick one that fits your access, timeline, and budget.

    • Fully staffed service. The supplier sets up, pours, refills, and tidies so you can host. This is perfect for hotel suites, engagement teas, and larger hens where you want a smooth flow.
    • Drop-off and dress. The team delivers, styles the buffet with stands and small florals, and returns later for collection. This works brilliantly in taprooms and community spaces where you have helpers on hand.
    • Delivery only. Everything arrives boxed with simple instructions. Assign a friend to manage scones and another to keep kettles or urns topped up. It is the most budget-friendly format for smaller groups.

    Budgeting Without the Faff

Across Manchester you are typically looking at £18 to £32 per person. Here is what pushes a package up or down.

    • Towards £18. Delivery-only menus with classic sandwiches, scones, and a couple of bakes. Disposable or simple crockery, no staff.
    • Middle of the range. Drop-off with styling, tiered stands, printed labels for dietary needs, and a broader patisserie selection.
    • Towards £32. Staffed service, vintage china, linen napkins, a wider sweet table, and prosecco or iced tea additions.

Smart savings come from trimming variety rather than quality. Keep the scones and core sandwiches excellent and reduce the number of cake choices if needed. Guests rarely notice fewer options, but they always remember a dry scone or a tired sandwich.

    Practicalities That Matter in Manchester

A few local realities are worth planning around so the day stays calm.

    • Access and parking. Mills, lofts, and brewery rooms can have quirky entrances. Share photos of doors and lifts with your supplier if it helps.
    • Power and water. If you are using urns, place them near a suitable socket and away from guest flow. Taprooms and gardens sometimes need extension leads, so agree this early.
    • Noise and timings. Brewery rooms and city-centre spaces may have sound limits or fixed end times. Plan speeches early so service stays tidy.
    • Waste and clearing. Decide who removes food waste and where recyclables go. A simple plan keeps venues happy and deposits safe.

    Inclusive Menus for Every Guest

Afternoon Tea is naturally flexible, which makes it easy to welcome everyone at the table.

    • Vegan tiers. Treat the vegan tier as a complete set, not a compromise. Plant-based scones, dairy-free patisserie, and bright savouries look and taste fantastic.
    • Halal-friendly options. Keep meat-free selections generous, use fish and vegetarian plates to balance the table, and label clearly so guests can relax.
    • Gluten-free needs. Separate trays, careful handling, and naturally gluten-free items like meringues and flourless bakes work well.
    • Kids and older guests. Softer textures and familiar flavours such as jam sponge, vanilla cupcakes, and simple sandwiches keep the whole family content.

    Styling That Photographs Beautifully

A few clever touches elevate the experience without bloating the budget.

    • Pick a colour palette that suits your theme and space, then stick to it.
    • Mix heights on the buffet so the eye travels. Tiered stands do most of the work.
    • Keep signage neat and legible. It saves repeated questions and makes dietary guests feel considered.
    • Create two theatre moments. Warm scones arriving and a late reveal of fruit tartlets always win.

    Seasonal Notes for Manchester Weather

Spring and summer suit gardens and terraces with fresh fruit and light infusions. Autumn loves deeper flavours like spiced carrot cake and apple tartlets. Winter is cosy with darker linens, candlelight, and robust teas. Whatever the month, keep the menu seasonal and focused. It transports better and tastes fresher.
