Connor was a brilliant addition to our dinner party. His magic was incredible - we were all amazed - and he made us all feel at ease; it was though we had an extra friend for a bit! Would wholeheartedly recommend him and expect he’ll be getting some repeat private and corporate bookings from our party. What a cracking chap!

Chris was excellent with his magic. I organised a lunch for 50 people and every one of them were blown away by his performance. He mingled effortlessly with the guests during our reception and kept everyone of them entertained. No-one could work out how he was doing what he did and several guests went back for a second (and third) viewing to see how it was done. I would highly recommend Chris - prior to the event he was responsive to my queries and very easy to get hold of.
Excellent entertainer - really good value for money.

"The Great Adamos was exactly that. It was absolutely perfect and terrific party entertainment. The Great Adamos made sure that every single person in the room experienced his dazzling trickery up close and personal. Everyone thanked me for putting on this entertainment, but my thanks are all to Adam himself!
Amazing experience!!!"

Hire a Close Up Magician in London: A Practical Buyer’s Guide
If you’re planning an event in the capital and want high-impact entertainment that works in busy rooms, a close up magician in London is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. We’ve booked thousands of them across the city, from corporate drinks to luxury weddings, and we know exactly how to make the magic land. In this guide we’ll explain where close up magic works best, how to brief your act, what it costs in London, and the small details that turn good reactions into jaw-drops.
What close up magic actually is
Close up magic is interactive sleight of hand performed inches from your guests. Think playing cards, coins, borrowed rings and watches, a little light mind-reading, and lots of personality. Unlike a stage show, the magician mingles between groups, working a room during reception drinks, at tables between courses, or at the bar while people queue. It’s flexible, quick to set up, and perfect for spaces where you can’t rig lights or PA.
What you can expect from a London close up magician:
Sleight of hand with cards and coins that resets quickly
Short routines for standing groups, slightly longer pieces for seated tables
Polished patter that suits corporate and private settings
Family-friendly material by default unless you request something edgier
Optional mind-reading for VIP circles and photo-ready finales
Events where close up magic shines in the capital
We see brilliant results across these London occasions:
Corporate drinks where you want strangers mixing quickly
Awards nights with downtime between categories
Luxury weddings to energise canapé hour and glide through lulls
Private dining for clients or team wins when you want a discreet wow
Milestone birthdays that need something special without a full stage show
Product launches where you need branded moments that stick
If you’re hosting a larger party, two magicians can split the room so no table gets missed. For very high guest counts, consider adding a short stand-up set later to gather everyone for a single big hit.
London spaces that work beautifully
The city offers every backdrop imaginable. Close up magic travels light, so it thrives in:
Rooftop bars with skyline views where wind and space are factors
Private members’ rooms where you want low-key sophistication
Hotel ballrooms during receptions and between courses

Thames boats where the magician circulates deck to deck
Gallery spaces that need quiet, elegant moments rather than loud performance
West End restaurants with private areas and quick table turnarounds
Tip for rooftops and boats: ask your magician to avoid props that blow away or require flat surfaces. They’ll switch to material that plays well standing up and on the move.
Themes and performance style to request
You gave us a useful starting point, so here’s how we’d shape it for London audiences:
Slick mingle magic between speeches so the flow never stalls
Card and coin sleight with strong visuals for phones and social
Light mind-reading for VIP clusters, perfect for board members or top clients
Walkaround during canapé hour with quick resets to maximise coverage
If your brand tone is playful, we’ll brief for more banter. If the room is high-end and minimalist, we’ll ask for elegant, silent beats that photograph beautifully.
Price guide for a close up magician in London
Expect £450 to £900 for most bookings in town. Where you land in that range depends on:
Day of week and time window, with Fridays and Saturdays at a premium
Duration, usually 90 minutes to 3 hours
Reputation and TV credits of the performer
Travel and parking across central zones, although most London pros are local
Add-ons such as branded playing cards or a mini stage routine later in the night
A typical two-hour mingle set for a corporate reception or wedding reception sits in the middle of that range. For guest counts above 150, budget for two magicians or one magician plus a 10 to 15 minute showpiece later.
How many guests can one magician cover
A practical rule of thumb:
Standing reception, one magician comfortably reaches 60 to 100 guests in 2 hours
Seated dinner, one magician can work 8 to 10 tables between courses
Very large rooms or split-level venues benefit from a second performer
If you have staggered arrivals, we’ll schedule the set where energy dips so it lifts the room when it’s needed most.
Briefing your magician like a pro
A sharp brief makes the night feel effortless. Share:
Guest count, age range, and any VIPs to prioritise
Timeline with speeches, awards, or first dance times
Dress code and brand tone, from black tie to street smart
Noise levels and music plan so the magician can match pace
Access notes, lifts, security, load-in routes, and who to call on arrival
Any do-not-perform requests, for example borrow-and-vanish gags with sentimental jewellery
If you want mind-reading, flag it early. Some performers bring specific props or pre-show cards for those moments.
London-specific tips that save headaches
We’ve learned a few capital-city truths:
Traffic and parking are real. Share the best entrance and ideal arrival time
Security can be tight in large venues and members’ spaces, so allow for check-ins
Noise climbs quickly in glassy rooms and rooftops, so mix visual material early
International guests are common, so request clear, accent-light delivery
Boats and rooftops mean weather contingencies. Have an indoor fallback path
Table plans change late. We’ll confirm final layout on the day
Optional add-ons that elevate the experience
If the budget allows, ask about:
Personalised playing cards or a branded reveal for launches
A short parlour piece later in the night to gather 30 to 60 people
A second magician or a roaming host to speed coverage
Close up video capture to create shareable clips after the event
Early call time for VIP pre-show moments and photo ops
How to choose the right close up magician in London
Look for these signals when comparing acts:
Video of real-world events, not only studio showreels
Clear audience reactions and uncut moments
Range of material so they can pivot to your crowd
Professional attire that matches your dress code
Reviews that mention reliability, punctuality, and guest rapport
A plan for noisy rooms without relying on sound equipment
If you’re on the fence between two performers, we’ll help match the personality to your brief. Corporate bankers on a Thursday need a different tone to a creative West End birthday on a Saturday.
Quick planning checklist
Decide your main purpose: break the ice, fill downtime, anchor a moment
Choose your slot: reception, between courses, or both
Confirm guest count and floor plan so coverage is realistic
Share key timings and any must-hit groups
Approve attire, set style, and any brand elements
Lock parking, security, and access instructions
Confirm payment terms and exchange on-the-day contact numbers
