Really excellent experience with Chef Pat! He was communicative before the event, the ability for everyone to pick different menu options was so amazing, and he could cater to veggie and GF options. Great value for money, beautiful presentation, everyone absolutely loved the food, and the kitchen was left clean and tidy. It all went so well and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone!

Our Chef, Lewis was spot on, explained what he was cooking, also when it would be ready.
He explained what each dish was, and if spicy or not.
Food was amazing, everyone in our party really enjoyed the experience.
Would I use Lewis again…yes.
Would I use Poptop again yes.
Communication from both Poptop and Lewis was A1.

Can't fault the chef alan was great however I think the food for the amount of money possibly didn't quite match up. Also the chicken main could have done with some sort of sauce
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Why Book a Private Chef for Christmas in Birmingham?
Because December in Brum is busy, brilliant and slightly bonkers. The German Market is heaving, every carvery within a five-mile radius is booked, and trying to get a big family with mixed diets (halal, veggie, gluten-free, lactose-free and Uncle Mo who “only eats lamb done properly”) into one restaurant is a festive logistics puzzle no one needs. A private chef solves it in one go. You stay at home (or in a serviced apartment, or the community hall round the corner), eat restaurant-standard food, and still get to nip back for seconds in your slippers.
Poptop isn’t just a party planning marketplace. It’s the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable event, with peace of mind and support from first enquiry to the final plate being dried. You get instant pricing, friendly pros, and a safety net if anything goes sideways. That’s the real Christmas gift.
The Birmingham Flavour of Christmas Private Dining
Birmingham Christmas bookings tend to cluster into three big types:
Private at-home chef dinners
Think intimate, well-paced meals for close family, with proper trimmings and a menu that can be traditional, modern, halal, veggie or a smart mix of all of them.
Extended family halal-friendly feasts
Large groups, shared dishes, halal lamb shoulder or balti-spiced turkey at the centre, and desserts that make everyone stop talking for a minute. These dinners are often served family style to keep things sociable.
Intimate corporate team meals
Small teams ditch the big restaurant bill and bring a chef into the office kitchen or a serviced apartment. Expect a tight, well-executed menu that hits all dietary requirements without fuss.
Where Brummies Host Their Chef-Catered Christmas
Detached and semi-detached homes
The classic. Plenty of space, predictable ovens, and room to plate up. Ideal for private at-home chef dinners and big halal-friendly feasts.
Community halls with kitchens
Surprisingly good for larger groups. Chefs are used to working around slightly older kit and can bring equipment if needed. Great for extended families or wider community get-togethers.
Serviced apartments
Perfect for smaller corporate meals or a friendsmas where you don’t fancy cleaning your own kitchen afterwards. Compact, modern, and usually easy to access.

• 24 bookings
This is a Mexican street food-style menu that includes 5 plates to share, 2 desserts, and one cocktail, which is, we think, the perfect combo. The desserts and cocktails add a va-va-voom to the party! Barbacoa di abodo is slow-cooked for 5 hours and makes the best tacos in town! Sharing plates are a great way to celebrate any occasion such as birthdays, newly engaged, pre-wedding, etc.

Balti-spiced turkey with crisp skin, proper gravy and aromatic sides
Halal lamb shoulder, slow cooked to falling-apart tenderness, paired with winter veg and vibrant chutneys
Paneer wellington for the vegetarians (and the curious carnivores who always nick a slice)
Gujarati Christmas canapés that kick the evening off with colour and crunch
Classic puddings with a regional twist, or lighter finales for corporate teams who need to function the next morning
Want a traditional British roast with all the trimmings? Nothing wrong with that. Want a paneer wellington main alongside a halal lamb shoulder for a big family table? Done. Want a cheffy, multi-course tasting that starts classic and ends playful? You can absolutely have that too.
The Price Picture in Birmingham
Pricing for private chefs for Christmas in Birmingham typically sits between £60 and £110 per person. Where you land depends on:
Course count
Three-course roasts with dessert usually sit in the £60–£75 pp range. Four to five course menus move into £75–£95 pp. Six courses and higher, or tasting menus with intricate pastry work, often nudge £95–£110 pp.
Ingredients
Halal lamb shoulder and balti-spiced turkey are excellent value, while premium seafood, specialist vegan substitutes or luxury patisserie push costs up. Paneer wellington is a star for value and impact.
Staffing
Chef-only service is the cheapest option for small groups. Add servers, a bartender or a sommelier and the cost scales. Typical server rates sit around £120–£180 for the evening.
Your kitchen and kit
A well-equipped family kitchen is perfect. A tiny serviced apartment oven might require extra induction hobs or holding ovens, which can add £50–£150 to the bill. Crockery and cutlery hire, if needed, often runs at £4–£8 per person.
Peak dates
Fridays and Saturdays in December, plus Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, often come with a 10–25% uplift or a higher minimum spend. Book early and you’ll get the best choice and price.

Relax and plan without the anxiety

Host a party that will be remembered
Balti-spiced turkey your nan won’t stop talking about. Halal lamb shoulder people dream about next summer. Paneer wellington that becomes a family tradition. You’ll set a new bar.
Book with confidence and complete security
Suppliers are vetted, support is live, and if something goes sideways, you’re covered by a money-back guarantee and a proper plan B.
Halal, Veggie, Vegan and Allergen Management Done Right
Birmingham parties are often wonderfully diverse. To keep your menu safe and seamless:
Share every dietary requirement and allergy up front
Be specific. Vegan isn’t vegetarian. Gluten-free isn’t coeliac. Halal isn’t “we’ll just skip the wine”
Ask how cross-contamination is handled if that’s important for your guests
Request clearly labelled menus or place cards for restricted diets
Confirm that alternative dishes are equally impressive, not afterthoughts
A good chef will mirror the creativity across all plates, so no one feels short-changed.
Drinks and Pairings: What Works in Practice
BYO with guidance: many hosts buy their own drinks and ask the chef for pairing advice
Zero or low alcohol: popular for halal-friendly feasts and corporate meals where people need to drive or work the next day
Welcome drinks: think spiced citrus coolers, non-alcoholic spritzes, or a classic mulled wine alternative
Pairings: a sommelier can curate wines or non-alcoholic pairings for each course if you want to elevate the experience
Before You Book: The Honest Kitchen Check
How many burners do you have?
Is your oven big enough for a lamb shoulder, paneer wellington or a giant roasting tray?
Do you own enough plates, forks and glasses for the number of courses and guests?
Is there adequate counter space for plating?
Do you have parking or easy loading for the chef and their equipment?
Chefs can bring extra induction hobs, pans, even crockery and glassware—just tell them early.
Questions to Ask Your Chef Before You Say Yes
Can you share the exact menu, course by course?
How do you handle halal, vegan, gluten-free or nut-free guests?
What’s included in the price—chef only, or staff too?
What equipment do you need me to provide?
What time will you arrive, and when should we expect to eat?
Do you supply crockery, cutlery and glassware if we’re short?
How do cancellations and last-minute guest changes work?
Is clean-down included so we wake up to a tidy kitchen?
Can we add canapé service, a Boxing Day brunch, or late-night snacks as an extra?
Green Flags and Red Flags When Choosing
Green flags
Clear, all-inclusive pricing
Detailed, course-by-course menus
Sensible staff numbers for the guest count
Chef asks smart questions about your kitchen, access and equipment
Proactive approach to halal, vegan, veggie and allergen requirements
Red flags
“Price to be confirmed later” with no detail
Menus that ignore your key dietary requirements
No mention of staffing or clean-down
Unrealistic timings (“We can do six courses for 20 in a tiny oven in 90 minutes, no problem”)
How to Brief Your Chef Like a Pro
Share your full address, kitchen photos and equipment list
Give exact guest numbers and update them as they change
Spell out the vibe: formal plated dinner, relaxed family style feast, or tasting menu theatre
Flag dietary needs and halal requirements clearly and early
Note any building rules, parking restrictions, community hall access quirks
Confirm who is handling drinks, glassware, water service and post-meal tea or coffee
The better your brief, the smoother the service—and the more time your chef can spend perfecting that paneer wellington crust.
Cancellations, Contingencies, and Keeping December Sane
Stuff happens in December: bugs go round, trains stop, and your cousin decides to bring four surprise plus-ones. Read the cancellation terms before you commit. The upside with Poptop is you’ve got a proper safety net — vetted suppliers, a responsive support team, and a money-back guarantee with a replacement chef if things really derail.
The Last Course
Christmas in Birmingham is all about flavour, family, and doing things properly—without exhausting yourself in the kitchen. A private chef brings the restaurant to your door, respects your dietary and cultural needs, and lets you genuinely enjoy your own party. Whether you want balti-spiced turkey, halal lamb shoulder, paneer wellington or Gujarati Christmas canapés (or all of them on the same table), you’ll find a chef who can make it sing.
Use Poptop to see real prices instantly, book in minutes, and relax knowing support’s got your back. Choose your format, brief clearly, and prepare for a Christmas dinner that people talk about long after the tree’s packed away. Next year, you’ll be the first person everyone asks to host—again.
