OK, my experience with no holds barred!
I wasn't sure about 'poptop' and even less sure about 'Connor Collins' so did some detective work on both.
But after I did my due diligence checks, I concluded that poptop and Connor Collins were straight up and therefore paid the deposit and confirmed the booking.
With hindsight, I needn't have worried, but that's not my nature and I didn't want to commit my club's money to something that wasn't genuine. Connor arrived promptly, and very quickly established a rapport with the audience. His performance was truly amazing and absolutely top quality.
I sent a message to Connor after the event and share it here:
'Just a quick message to say again THANK YOU for such an entertaining performance. I always thought that when people were picked out of the audience to help an act, that they had been primed in some shape or form. You blew a hole right through the middle of that theory, and then some.
I heard so many people saying how much they enjoyed it and wondering out loud, '"How the dickens did he do that?"
An audience well satisfied, that's for sure.
And I get reflected glory for booking you, so thanks again.'
I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Connor. His magic is truly amazing and will be remembered for a very long time.

Connor was absolutely incredible and wowed all my party with both close up magic and a show. Having seen many other magicians over the years at weddings and corporate events I can say he was one of the very best including seeing Dynamo and Deron Brown over the years! He was also very funny and personable with adults and children alike. Would 1000% book again and highly recommend

I booked The Magic Word to perform at my friend’s wedding as a wedding gift for her and her husband to be as they both love magic. It really was so worth it to see the look on their and their guests faces as he wowed everyone with his amazing act! He was so professional, friendly and had a great sense of humour. People are still talking about how great he was now and I handed out a fair share of business cards to people asking for his details. I would absolutely recommend this amazing young man to add a little magic to any event- thank you so much for my making my friend’s wedding that extra bit more special! Olivia

"Top marks for a top Magician.
Scotty was friendly, warm, funny and professional from the moment we got in touch on through email to make arrangement and he upheld his fabulous attitude throughout the day as he entertained our guests at our wedding.
Every time I looked around the room he was at another table wowing the guests with his close up magic.
Scotty also put on a special performance for the little guests during the speeches and brought the magnificent Shadow the bunny who nearly outshone him ; ) only nearly.
I would highly recommend Scotlands Magician for any event you are holding. You will not be disappointed and will get to meet a real gentleman who is a pleasure to work with. We were glad to have Scotty as part of our big day.
Book him now!

Wedding magicians in Bristol: indie energy, effortless fun
If your plan is a wedding with character rather than cookie cutter, a wedding magician in Bristol is a smart pick. The city leans creative and a little unconventional, which is exactly where modern close-up magic and light mentalism shine. Magicians slip through a festival-style reception, keep dinner lively without slowing service, then pop up later with informal evening sets that give your photographer those big reaction shots. From harbourside warehouses to countryside barns, magic travels with the party, fits any dress code and leaves guests chatting long after the last song.
This buyer’s guide is your complete route map. We will cover the best moments for magic, how to brief for Bristol’s favourite spaces, what to budget, and the fuss-free logistics that keep everything smooth. By the end you will know exactly how to book a wedding magician in Bristol with confidence.
Why Bristol weddings and magic are such a good match
Bristol has an independent streak and a love for live experiences. Magic lands perfectly in that sweet spot. It is personal, it is playful, and it does not need a stage to get a room buzzing. A skilled wedding magician in Bristol blends strolling close-up with conversational mind-reading, so guests feel involved rather than talked at. You get instant ice-breakers during the drinks, quick moments of surprise between courses, and relaxed evening pieces that entertain the bar crowd without pulling dancers off the floor.
Magic is also light on footprint, which suits eco-conscious weddings. There is no heavy rigging, no power-hungry lighting, and props are small enough to live in pockets. If you are minimising waste and keeping the supply list lean, close-up entertainment ticks all the boxes. The result is a day that feels warm, intentional and full of natural laughter.
Where magic sits best in a Bristol running order
Festival-style roaming during the reception
Bristol loves a festival-inspired reception with food trucks, yard games and lounge corners. This is prime territory for roaming magic. Your magician moves between clusters, performing visual pieces that land even in open air. Borrowed objects, neat reveals and quick mind-reading turn strangers into teammates within minutes. While you slip away for portraits, the energy stays high and the chatter keeps rolling.
Top tip for the lawn or dockside. Ask for angle-proof routines that play in bright daylight and gentle breeze. A pro will keep cards controlled, avoid wind-sensitive pieces and favour visual beats that look brilliant on camera.
Eco-conscious weddings that keep impact small and joy big

If your brief is sustainable and low fuss, magic is an easy win. You get high engagement with minimal kit. Ask about recycled or reusable props, paper-light routines and a dress code that matches an ethical theme. Lots of Bristol magicians are happy to adapt presentations so they feel right at an upcycled, plant-forward celebration. The entertainment still hits hard, it just does so with a smaller footprint.
Informal evening sets when the music starts
As the DJ warms the room, not everyone will live on the dance floor. Informal evening sets are short, punchy and perfect for guests by the bar or in quiet corners. Expect visual reveals and quick mentalism that land over background music in just a few minutes. If you like the idea of one shared moment before the first dance, ask for a compact mini-show. Ten minutes is enough to bring the whole room together, create a photogenic finale, then point that applause straight into the dance.
Bristol venues and how magic fits each one
Harbourside warehouses with character and light
These spaces are full of texture, high ceilings and natural light. They also carry sound, so opt for clear, visual material during the reception and table pieces that do not need everyone to lean in. If you want a mini-show later, mark a small performance area with clean sightlines. Avoid positioning the magician with a bright window directly behind, your photographer will thank you.
Weather watch if you spill onto the dock. Keep a nearby indoor corner ready. A professional will pivot inside without breaking the flow, then loop back outdoors if the breeze settles.
Creative studios and blank-canvas spaces
Studios are brilliant for tailored styling. Magic looks great here when it is sleek and minimal. Ask for tidy pocket routines, borrowed-object pieces and a few visual reveals that read well against white walls or exposed brick. Because these rooms often reconfigure between ceremony, reception and dinner, brief your magician on the plan so sets track the space changes without getting in the way of staff.
Countryside barns within easy reach of the city
Barns bring rustic-chic charm, big doors that open to the fields and, sometimes, a helpful gust that arrives uninvited. Choose angle-safe material for lawn mingling, then switch to compact table magic once everyone sits down. If you fancy a small collective moment, place it before dessert when attention is easy to gather. Keep performance pockets clear of fire pits and heaters, and flag any cobbles or steps on the route for a smooth walk-through.
Style and presentation that suit the city
Quirky and indie in spirit. You are in Bristol, not a ballroom in the West End, so a relaxed dress code works. Think sharp jacket, clean trainers or smart shoes, and a pocket-sized prop load that fits the vibe.
Strolling close-up with light mentalism. Visual effects for quick hits at the reception, thought-of names or drawings for those lean-in moments later.
Playful audience involvement. Short, inclusive beats where a guest makes a choice or signs a card. The reactions feel personal and photograph beautifully.
Angle-proof material for outdoor mingling. Visuals that read from a step or two away, with no fragile setups.
Bilingual intros or more visual pieces if you have international guests. Many Bristol magicians can sprinkle a second language or switch to non-verbal moments so everyone feels included.
What it costs to hire a wedding magician in Bristol
Plan for two hours of close-up and table magic in the range of 400 to 600 pounds in Bristol and the surrounding area. Where you land depends on date, season and performer profile. Peak Saturdays from late spring to early autumn can sit higher, as can late finishes. A compact mini-show is often included near the top of that range. If your room needs a microphone or small PA for the all-guest moment, expect a modest add-on unless your magician supplies it.
Money-smart idea. Most couples get maximum impact from a focused 90 minutes to two hours that straddles reception mingling and the first part of dinner. If you want a shared moment later, many performers will swap the final ten minutes of table time for that mini-show without extending the booking.
How to shortlist the right Bristol wedding magician
Watch recent live clips. You want to see the performer working in real rooms, ideally outdoors and in lively evening sets. Studio reels are neat, live footage tells the truth.
Read feedback linked to spaces like yours. Harbourside warehouses, creative studios and barns each have quirks. Reviews that mention those settings are gold.
Ask for a simple plan. For example, festival-style roaming at reception, table magic between courses, a ten minute mini-show before the first dance. Clarity signals experience.
Check coverage for your headcount. One magician usually covers 80 to 120 guests across two hours. Bigger lists may benefit from a second performer so quality stays high.
Confirm the basics. Public liability insurance is standard. Any sound kit should be PAT tested. A quick venue call is a good sign.
Look for tidy prop discipline. Nothing should sprawl across dinner tables. Pocket-ready and table-safe wins every time.
Useful questions to ask.
Which beats will create the most photogenic reactions in our venue, and why.
How do you coordinate with our photographer and catering team so nothing clashes.
What is your wet-weather plan if part of the reception is outside.
If timings move, how do you keep coverage fair across tables and guest groups.
Things to avoid.
Vague running times or promises to wing it with a big guest list.
Bulky props that eat floor space or risk marks on furniture.
No clear answer on sound, sightlines or weather.
Three running orders that work beautifully in Bristol
Harbourside day into night
Welcome drinks start on the dockside while portraits begin nearby. After ten minutes, the magician circulates with clean, visual pieces, focusing on new arrivals and groups near shade.
As you return, you get a short private routine that becomes a keepsake. Your photographer grabs the reactions with the water in the background.
Guests move indoors for dinner. The magician runs table pieces between starter and main, staying clear of speeches and service routes.
Just before the first dance, a compact mini-show brings everyone together for a single, photogenic reveal. Applause rolls straight into the dance.
Creative studio celebration with flexible layout
Ceremony flips to a lounge-style reception. The magician opens with strolling close-up, keeping props minimal to suit the clean aesthetic.
During dinner, tight table sets land between courses. The performer coordinates with staff so the flow stays tidy.
As evening guests arrive, a short second sweep targets the bar crowd and lounge corners. Quick mentalism and visual hits keep non-dancers entertained while the floor fills.
Countryside barn with eco-friendly touches
Drinks on the lawn, music on acoustic speakers, lots of greenery. Angle-safe magic leads the way, with wind-friendly routines and borrowed-object moments that look great in natural light.
Guests are seated. The magician rotates calmly between tables, avoiding service paths and keeping routines compact.
If showers arrive, the plan pivots inside for a micro-parlour piece in a well-lit corner. The set cues the cake, then hands over to the band.
Practicalities that save stress on the day
Space and sightlines. For any all-guest moment, mark a small performance area with clear views. Avoid backlighting from large windows when you can.
Sound. If your room is lively, agree a hand-held microphone and compact PA for the mini-show. Some magicians supply this. Confirm who brings what.
Lighting. Soft, even light helps both magic and photography. Outdoor plan. Keep an indoor corner ready so the show goes on if the breeze picks up.
Weather plan. Bristol weather has its own ideas. A pro carries routines that work outside and swaps quickly if conditions change. Share your layout so they can map a smooth route.
Children. If you have lots of younger guests, tell the performer ages and numbers. They will weave in family-friendly moments without shifting the tone to a kids’ show.
Accessibility and flow. Keep chair gaps sensible and highlight any steps or tight corridors on the table plan. The magician moves more smoothly and servers will thank you.
Sustainability. If eco matters, ask about recycled props, paper-light routines and travel plans. Magic is already low impact, a few tweaks make it even better.
Timings. If dinner runs fast or speeches move, your performer will flex. A quick word via the coordinator keeps coverage balanced.
