Description

Price from: £400

Newick Folk perform mainly traditional music plus anything else that takes our fancy. That might be anything from Lily the Pink and My Old Man’s a Dustman to the themes from Captain Pugwash or Blackadder and maybe even Blueberry Hill or the Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square. We set out to entertain you and we love it when people get up and dance. We play at lots of Ceilidhs for Weddings and significant birthday events.

Should you wish we can provide covers or jazz sets so if you wanted to combine two genres in an evening - for example Ceilidh set / Covers set or Jazz set / Ceilidh set - we can accomodate that.

We are based in Newick and play many local events and sessions throughout Sussex with occasional ventures to Kent, Surrey and the nearer bits of London

Price for the full team with caller is £650 which includes for a full PA and local area travelling. We have an eclectic background so musical adventures are always on the cards which is why we have additional offers such as Jazz, covers and original material bands.

These represent the additional musical projects of band members and are available via poptop as individual packages that now come with their own photos, videos and audio tracks.

These guys were fabulous. Really helped to make our day special. Lots of compliments from our guests. They played songs at our wedding ceremony at leatherhead registry office and then came back to our house to entertain us and our guests in our garden! The guys were very obliging and wonderful musicians. Highly recommend - thanks Newick Folk!!!! 👍👍

"Just a quick thankyou to you and the band for a fantastic day at our wedding on 1st September.

Everyone loved your music (some won't stop talking about you!) and we couldn't have asked for better."

thank you for the wonderful performance you did at our wedding. Everyone said you guys were so good and I'm just sorry I didn't get to chat to you more - you know how weddings are, they tend to be a little hectic!

I just wanted to say a massive thank you again for playing at the fair today. You really set the mood beautifully; it's so lovely to have live music at a school event.

We had such an enjoyable time on 10th February and a lot of the joy was due to the life enhancing music of Newick Folk. So many people have said to us that they would like to take up country dancing after this. Quite a lot of people commented on the last song. We have never heard anybody sing it better! We really could not have been more pleased with how it all went.

Repertoire is mainly Irish, Scottish and English Tunes and songs by the Pogues, Steve Earle, The Wolf Tones, the Dubliners plus a few old favourites like Lily the Pink, My Old Man’s a Dustman, Rave On /Bye Bye Love and Folsom Prison Blues and maybe even the odd jazz standard. Our line up includes vocal/mandolin/guitar (Alan), whistles/oboe (Martin), double bass (Karn), keyboard (“Professor” Roland Batty), violin (Rhiannon) I've quoted you for the full band plus full PA plus caller ready to deliver 2 x 1 hour dance sets plus a few tunes and songs. Most of our repertoire is Irish or Scottish Tunes Typical Dances include Dance Ceilidh Tunes Hello Haste to the wed/Irish Washerwoman Clopton Bridge Harvest Home/Alexander's hornpipe Circle Waltz Planxty Fanny Power / Planxty Irwin Bridge of Athlone Dingle Regatta Train and Tunnel Ballydesmond Polka/ John Ryan Polka Cumberland Square My love she's but a lassie yet /Atholl Highlanders Circassian Circle Mucking of Geordies Byre/Lanigan's Ball Snow Ball Bedbreaker Cheltenham Flyer Ships in Full Sail/Rakes of Kildare Dashing White Sergeant Gay Gordons Strip the Willow etc We don't go in for fancy riders, but a couple of drinks and something to eat are always appreciated. All this is spelled out in the Housekeeping section of the attached flier that tells you a bit more about the band. Can you let us know if the dancers are beginners or experienced - it helps with the repertoire The video is in 3 sections, a bit about the history of the band, a clip of us running a Ceilidh with our caller in action and a video from the studio when we recording the ""Leaving of Liverpool"" Best wishes let me know if you need any further information Alan"

Jazz Duo - American Songbook/Soul/Blues - 2 x 50 Minutes

Heavenly Blues is a collaboration between local singer Cylvian Flynn and Pianist and Vocalist Alan Rae. Cylvian has a long track record of singing with local bands like Revo6 and Atelier du Soul as well as her alter ego as Just Tina as which she appeared on Stars in their Eyes. Alan has played keys for Blues Business, Ugly bugs Blues Band and Kitsch n Sync and also fronts local Ceilidh band Newick Folk. We’ve played together quite a bit over the last 10 years – Alan played keyboards for Cylvian in Revo6 and in Just Tina. We've decided to branch out and try something new. Cylvian wants to explore the full range of her voice while Alan has been studying Jazz piano at the Brighton Jazz School for the last 3 years. So we put our talents together to create a cool atmosphere by performing classics from the American Songbook like Autumn Leaves, Every time we say Goodbye and Bye Bye Blackbird topped up with soul classics like Natural Woman and Midnight Train to Georgia with a few bluesy numbers from previous repertoires. This provides a versatile repertoire for your event, be it a sophisticated evening do or a sunny lunchtime. We normally perform 2 x 50 minute sets but other arrangements are possible. We will provide our own pa. All we need is power and somewhere waterproof if we're playing outdoors

Kitsch n Sync - Covers & Original Material Band With Male & Female Vocals - 2 Hours

The Band is Rhiannon and Aldo Daniel, Alan Rae and Karn Broad. Between them they have been playing for over 200 years in a wide range of genres. Aldo is a walking encyclopedia of rock and pop and is an accomplished guitarist. Rhiannon plays violin, guitar and keys with country and Americana influences. Karn is a unique bass player, guitarist and sound engineer. Alan plays Keyboards in K&S but also sings and plays guitar and mandolin. His influences are folk, blues and jazz. The band members are well used to playing together. Rhiannon and Alan played in Heavenly Blues, Alan and Karn played together in “Just Tina” a Tina Turner trib band before Karn joined Alan’s Folk Band, Newick Folk. Rhiannon often plays violin the Folk Band. The songs are unusual, interesting and tuneful and the delivery is tight. The Band plays its own compositions written by Rhiannon or Alan plus covers like “Sunny came Home”, “Walking in Memphis”, “Mary J Brown and the Hollywood sign” “Blue on Black etc. The band often includes folk or jazz standards plus anything else has a high grin factor.

Singing Pianist - 1.5 Hours

I’m a versatile singer able to accompany myself on piano, mandolin and guitar. I’ve played keys in various covers, blues and jazz bands as well as the Just Tina tribute band. I currently front “Newick Folk” who specialise in contemporary approaches to traditional tunes – mainly folk and Irish but also some Jazz standards. I’m quite wide in my tastes so I can play numbers from artists from the Beatles to Steely Dan including plenty of Dylan and Americana songs and sixties/seventies material. Typical songs might include Lets face the Music and Dance Pasadena They can't take that away from me La Mer I've got you under my skin Over the Rainbow I've got Rhythm Lullaby of Birdland Fly me to the moon A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square These Foolish things Lady is a tramp Sunny Side of the Street Americana Heart of Saturday Night Tonight I'll be staying here with you The Weight The night they drove old dixie down Like a Rolling Stone Knocking on Heavens Door Hotel California Desperado

We know that the people who book us are usually celebrating an important event in their lives - a wedding, a family reunion or a significant birthday. It's our job to give them a good experience and to manage any issues due to catering delays etc so that the event is seamless. We're good at this as these testimonials show We were able to book this band for St Patrick's weekend and the whole process ran very smoothly. Very quick to respond to email queries and the set was tailored to our Irish theme which we so appreciated. The guys were very easy going, organised and supportive of our fundraising cause too. Would definitely recommend as a jolly evening was had by all, Thank You :-) Amy Lumsden (Fundraising Event ) 10/10 This is just an email to say thank you so much for playing at my 21st. You and the rest of your band were absolutely amazing. You were all polite and everyone enjoyed your music. The caller was great. It's the best music for a celidh that i've been too. My family and friends were amazed at how well you all played and loved the songs in between (and so did i). Thank you all for a lovely evening and i hope you enjoyed yourselves too and grabbed enough food and drinks during the breaks. Catherine Moreley 9/10
