Rosie performed at my birthday party and did an incredible job. I preselected my chosen songs from Rosie's playlist prior to the event, in discussion with Rosie. She performed every song brilliantly. She arrived in plenty of time, was professional and friendly. Would highly recommend!

Gary was excellent. We hired Gary to play at our wedding whilst our guests would be mingling and drinking welcome drinks (in between the church and wedding breakfast) Right from the word go he was profesianal and quick to repond to any questions we had. Our guests loved him and although Gemma and I didnt see that much as we were off having our pictures taken, what we did see and hear was amazing. Thank you Gary 👍

We enjoyed Vincent's performance, some of the songs were less well known unless you are fond of the genre of music. However, he went down well with our group.

As the entertainment manager of a Black Country beer festival, it was up to me to find acts who would be of interest to attendees. Tóra's performance caught my eye (ok, ears) but was potentially a gamble as we’d never had anyone similar. Nevertheless, gamble I did. She arrived early, delightfully welcoming and set up quickly with our engineer. And then she began. WOW! It was absolutely incredible. Often festival performances may be seen as “background entertainment” but she stopped people dead in her tracks. I’ve never seen such interest and awe by attendees. Even the regional secretary (who isn’t shy in coming forward), said to me several months later, “That young lady who sang moved to me to tears. I’ve been to many beer festivals, seen many acts and she was by-far the best I’ve ever seen.” High praise but a reflection of many people’s opinion. She got a huge round of applause at the end, with many attendees coming up to pass her thanks. Throughout the day I received about a dozen or so compliments to her performance. An absolute professional with an incredible vocal range, flexible to the music selection and a genuinely wonderful person to work with (I can compare to many in the past who are quite the opposite). My only regret is that it’s made the task of trying to find acts that are even better for the future, nigh on impossible. Matthew Sparks – Dudley Winter Ales Festival

Soul singer hire in Manchester: a buyer’s guide

Manchester and soul music go hand in hand. From crate-digging Northern Soul all-nighters to glossy city-centre soirées, this is a city that knows how to dance when the horns hit and the vocals soar. If you’re planning a celebration and want instant feel-good energy without the faff of a full band, a professional soul singer is the sweet spot: compact set-up, huge sound, and a songbook that gets every generation moving. We’ve pulled together an expert guide shaped around Manchester’s venues, audiences, and event styles. It’s practical, down to earth, and geared for quick decisions. By the end, you’ll know exactly what to book, what it costs, and how to get the most from your singer.

Why a soul singer works brilliantly in this city

Manchester events are eclectic. One week you’re in an industrial mill with exposed brick and a wide dance floor; the next you’re squeezing a team social into a creative studio above a tram line. A solo soul singer adapts to both. They bring their own PA, curate a set that fits your vibe, and switch from silky background grooves to full-tilt floor-fillers without changing a single microphone.

Soul hits are also gloriously cross-generational. Expect grandparents, Gen-Z cousins, and office departments who never normally mingle to meet in the middle when the first Motown bassline drops. That universality is gold for weddings, agency socials, tech meetups, and Christmas parties.

Manchester-ready lineups and formats

You don’t need a ten-piece to sound big. In Manchester, the most requested lineups look like this:

  • Solo vocalist with high-quality backing tracks for that classic soul sound without heavy logistics.
  • Vocalist plus sax for a richer, more live feel and jazzy interludes during drinks or dinner.
  • Vocalist plus percussion for a club-leaning groove that works in basements and studios.
  • Vocalist with DJ for seamless transitions between live performance and late-night bangers.
  • Afternoon acoustic set followed by evening party set for weddings that need two distinct moods.

Each option keeps load-in simple for upstairs spaces, tight service lifts, or quick turnarounds between ceremonies and receptions.

Repertoire that lands every time in Manchester

A strong soul set blends Motown, Stax, disco-soul, neo-soul, and a sprinkling of Manchester-flavoured curveballs. Typical crowd-pleasers include:

  • Aretha, Stevie, Marvin, and Diana for the sing-along moments.
  • Northern Soul favourites that work for fast shuffles and spin moves.

  • Modern soul-pop from artists like Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, and Dua Lipa reshaped with a soulful vocal.
  • A few local nods re-imagined in a soul style for that knowing Manchester smile.
  • Ask your singer for sample set lists and highlight any must-plays or no-go tracks early. The best performers love tailoring the arc of the night to your exact crowd.

    Event-by-event guidance

    • Wedding receptions Soul is perfect wedding glue. You can have a warm, romantic first dance followed by a floor-filling opener that drags everyone up before the buffet queue forms. We recommend a relaxed welcome set during turn-around, then two evening sets once the speeches finish. If you’re in a mill venue, position the PA slightly off the brick to avoid harsh reflections, and keep drinks stations away from the speakers to stop clustering.
    • Agency socials Brand teams want atmosphere without awkwardness. A soul singer opens with familiar mid-tempo tunes while people arrive, then dials up to disco-soul once the room loosens. For agencies based around the city centre, a compact rig means quick sound checks after office hours. Consider a short interactive segment: the chorus everyone knows, a sax cameo, or a shout-out to the latest campaign win.
    • Tech meetups Developers and product folks appreciate clarity. Keep the early set lighter and speech-friendly so lightning talks and demos aren’t fighting the volume. Later, switch to an upbeat soul-pop run to encourage networking. If you’re in a creative studio, agree a simple stage plot so cables don’t trip anyone darting for pizza.
    • Christmas parties Soul and Christmas are best mates. Mix classic festive tunes with Motown staples so there’s something for the Secret Santa crowd and the CEO. In hotel spaces with low ceilings, a singer plus percussion adds groove without booming low-end. For basements, a vocalist with DJ is brilliant for moving from office mingling to after-hours dancing without resetting the room.

    Venues and acoustics: Manchester specifics

    • Industrial mills are atmospheric but reflective. Brick, glass, and steel bounce sound. Ask for speaker stands at ear height and a slight toe-in to focus the energy on the dance floor rather than the rafters.
    • Creative studios are bright and airy with minimal acoustic treatment. A solo vocalist at sensible volume is perfect for not swamping conversation.
    • City hotels are plug-and-play. Check load-in routes and power points in advance, and confirm any sound limiters. A seasoned singer will bring the right limit-friendly settings.
    • Basements are intimate and bass-forward. Keep subs modest and vocals clear. Percussion over full kit keeps things tight and danceable without shaking the ceiling above.

    Themes that suit Manchester audiences

    • Northern Soul Revival Lean into fast-paced classics and hand-clap choruses. Dress code nods to pompadours and twirly skirts are optional but highly encouraged. Keep breaks short to maintain that all-nighter momentum.
    • Madchester Soul & Groove Blend soul with a wink to the city’s indie-dance heritage. You’re not running a tribute night; it’s about groove, swagger, and a little late-night mischief. Ideal for agency parties and celebratory launches.
    • Soulful After-Work Think polished vocals, toe-tapping BPMs, and friendly volume while people decompress after a long day. Perfect for tech meetups and Thursday socials where conversation matters early on.

What you should expect to pay

For Manchester bookings, the typical price for a professional soul singer sits around £400–£800. Where you land in that range depends on:

    • Performance length and number of sets
    • Extras like sax, percussion, or a DJ partner
    • Early load-ins, late finishes, or travel outside the ring road
    • Requests for specific songs or a custom first dance
    • Higher-spec PA for bigger mills or hotel ballrooms

As a rule of thumb, £400–£550 covers a talented solo singer for standard evening sets. £600–£800 usually adds a featured musician, extended performance, or a more complex set-up. Remember you’re not just paying for the night; you’re paying for years of experience, rehearsal time, pro gear, public liability cover, and reliable logistics.

    How booking with us works

Poptop isn’t just another party website. It’s the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable event in Manchester, with clear communication and support from first search to final encore. Here’s how the experience feels:

    • Enjoy a truly friendly attitude. We handpick professionals who connect with your guests and keep the mood warm from hello to last track.
    • Plan your party in minutes, not days. You see instant, all-inclusive pricing so you can book quickly without chasing quotes.
    • Get an event that’s uniquely yours. From a custom first dance to a Northern Soul encore, suppliers adapt to your brief.
    • Relax and plan without the anxiety. You’ll get updates at each stage, so there’s no guessing what happens next.
    • Find what you need effortlessly. Pop in your date, guest count, and postcode, and you’ll see the best-fit options straight away.
    • Discover everything in one convenient place. Entertainment, food, photo and video, all under one roof if you want the full package.
    • Host a party that will be remembered. We specialise in services that make guests say “I wasn’t expecting that, but I loved it.”
    • Book with confidence and complete security. Every supplier is vetted, there’s always a back-up plan, and your money is protected.

Smart planning tips for Manchester bookers

    • Lock the date early. December and late summer Saturdays go fast, especially for singers with rave reviews.
    • Share your crowd profile. If it’s a mixed-age wedding, the set will look different than a design agency’s 80-person social.
    • Map the night’s arc. Drinks and canapés, speeches, first dance, party peak, final sing-along. A clear flow helps your singer pace the energy.
    • Coordinate with other suppliers. If you’re bringing a photo booth or street food, keep it away from the dance floor so the audience doesn’t fragment.
    • Plan for sound limiters. Many central spaces have them. A pro soul singer will manage levels and EQ to keep things punchy without tripping the system.
    • Think about access. Mills and basements can have quirky load-ins. Share lift dimensions and parking notes in advance.
    • Curate two must-plays and two do-not-plays. Keep it simple so your singer has room to read the room.
    • Consider a daytime micro-set. A soulful acoustic number during a sign-in or product demo adds class without stealing focus.

Sample schedules for different Manchester events

    • Wedding reception in a mill Arrival drinks with low-key soul classics, speeches buffer, first dance, two party sets with Northern Soul moments, sing-along finale while the night team clear down.
    • Agency social in a creative studio Meet-and-greet opener, mid-tempo favourites while the team settles in, short interactive section after awards, upbeat closer before the rideshare scramble.
    • Tech meetup in a city hotel Warm welcome numbers at conversation level, lightning talk intervals with house playlist, high-energy soul-pop finale to encourage after-talk networking.
    • Christmas party in a basement Festive soul staples to start, disco-soul run to pack the floor, DJ crossover for the late slot, last song that everyone knows before coats appear.

Making your Manchester booking feel personal

This city appreciates authenticity. Share a couple of stories with your singer: how you met, the campaign you’re celebrating, the in-joke your team loves. Little details help the performer land the right dedication or the perfect final track. If you’re leaning into Northern Soul Revival, ask about adding a short, high-tempo block that keeps the dancers spinning. For Madchester Soul & Groove, request a cheeky nod that the locals will catch without turning the night into a theme park.

    Quick checklist before you confirm

    • Date, venue type, and guest count sorted
    • Theme chosen: Northern Soul Revival, Madchester Soul & Groove, or Soulful After-Work
    • Preferred lineup selected: solo, with sax, with percussion, or vocalist-DJ combo
    • Budget agreed within £400–£800
    • Two must-plays and two do-not-plays noted
    • Access, power, and limiter info sent
    • Timings and set lengths mapped with short breaks
