First rate. We had a lovely evening dancing on the lawn to lovely music pitched just right for us. Not too loud either which is a bonus these days. Thoroughly recommend Folk Noggins to all.

We hired Aderyn String Quartet for our wedding in June 2019. I can highly recommend them. They were communicative in advance, and gave us a comprehensive playlist of potential songs from which to choose. On the day they were all we could have hoped for. Highly recommend.

What a great night! Kingsfolk made my birthday so special. Pre-event communications with Simon were detailed timely and professional. I had a small venue and Kingsfolk were very accommodating, adapting dances and even visiting the venue beforehand to ensure smooth running on the night. On the night Simon, Jocelyn and Andy arrived early to set up their equipment and looked very smart in the Kingsfolk colours. Andy adapted the dances so well to suit the space and was able to command quite a lively crowd! Jocelyn's beautiful singing was a great addition between dances. I would highly recommend Kingsfolk. All are consummate professionals who provided high quality music and dancing so that a great night was had by all.

"""We decided to have Josie entertain our guests with her fiddle for our annual Burns Night celebration. Her attention to detail was impressive regarding the music selection, timings of the performance and interaction with our speaker, and despite the venue's restrictions, Josie played a brilliant set of Scottish folk music. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend her and would indeed employ her again for another event if required."
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Looking for Folk Bands in Manchester? You’re in the right place. We live and breathe the city’s music DNA, and we know exactly how to match you with the right act for your wedding, birthday gig, office party, student ball, or Christmas do. In this guide, we’ll walk you through what to expect, how to choose a line-up, what it costs in Manchester right now, and how to book with confidence. We’ll keep it friendly, fast, and helpful—just like a great ceilidh caller.
Why Manchester loves folk bands
Manchester’s musical heart beats to guitars, fiddles, and foot-stomping choruses. Folk bands slot perfectly into the city’s favourite spaces—Northern Quarter lofts with exposed brick, canalside mills with big acoustics, boutique hotels with cosy lounges, and bright arts venues that want a dancefloor filled by the second chorus. Folk can be soft and story-led for a ceremony or drinks reception; it can also flip to folk-rock and indie-folk energy the moment you want the dancefloor to erupt. That versatility makes folk an easy win across ages and tastes.
What a Manchester folk band actually does
A good folk band isn’t just tunes and a PA. They bring atmosphere and shape the night. Expect:
A fiddle-forward sound that can swing from trad reels to acoustic reworks of indie favourites
Voices built for singalongs, with harmonies that lift the room
Dance-friendly sets that climb in energy through the evening
A professional approach to soundchecks, volume control, and timing around speeches and food service
We’ll help you brief the band so the flow makes sense for your schedule—no awkward gaps, no abrupt endings, and no clashing with the cake cut.
Event types we nail in Manchester
Weddings: romantic ceremony numbers, lively drinks reception, folk-rock for the evening
Birthday gigs: a warm, live-lounge feel early, then upbeat floor-fillers later
Office parties: acoustic welcome set for arrival, then high-energy stomps post-awards
Student balls: indie-folk remixes and festival-style choruses for big group singalongs
Christmas do’s: wintery instrumentals, familiar carols re-imagined, and jigs that thaw even the chilliest December crowd
Perfect Manchester venues and spaces
Northern Quarter lofts: intimate, brick-backdrop rooms where acoustic textures shine
Canalside mills: airy, characterful spaces made for fiddle, guitar, and drum resonance

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
Boutique hotels: smart, mid-volume performance that sits well with cocktails and chat
Arts venues: plug-and-play production, bigger stages, and room for ceilidh lines
If your space is compact, we’ll suggest a smaller line-up and minimal kit. If it’s huge, we’ll look at added percussion or a sound engineer to fill the room cleanly.
Themes that work brilliantly here
Indie-folk energy: festival vibes with acoustic instruments and big choruses
Fiddle-forward sets: driving reels and polkas that invite a dance line
Folk-rock for dancing: fuller backline, punchier beats, instant party mode
Manc classics done acoustically: beloved anthems given a warm, singable twist
Tell us your vibe—earthy barn dance, romantic candlelit folk, or post-headline indie stomp—and we’ll curate accordingly.
What it costs in Manchester
For most events in the city region, expect:
Typical range: £550–£1,300 depending on date, duration, and line-up size
Smaller acoustic duo or trio for a short set: towards the lower end
Full evening band with dance sets and requests: mid to upper end
Peak dates (summer Saturdays, December parties): price uplift is normal
We’ll give you instant, all-inclusive prices so you can commit with confidence and plan the rest of your budget in minutes.
Line-ups that make sense
Acoustic Duo
Great for ceremonies, drinks receptions, and intimate loft spaces. Vocals, guitar, and often a fiddle or mandolin. Portable, elegant, and budget-friendly.
Trio with Fiddle
The sweet spot for many weddings and birthday gigs. Melody from the fiddle, rhythm from guitar, and either percussion or a second voice for harmonies.
Four- or Five-Piece Folk-Rock
When you want the big sound: add drums and bass for dance sets that feel festival-ready. Ideal for larger mills and arts venues.
Add-ons to consider
Caller for ceilidh sets (we’ll help structure simple dances anyone can do)
Extra acoustic set for earlier in the day
Late-night DJ playlist service to keep things moving between band sets
Sample setlist ideas
Ceremony and drinks: gentle instrumentals, acoustic love songs, a couple of stripped-back Manchester anthems
Early evening: trad favourites, warm singalongs, relaxed covers to keep conversation flowing
Peak party hour: folk-rock versions of crowd-pleasers and indie-folk hits tailored for dancing
Finale: a unifying chorus everyone knows, encore on request, then a clean handover to recorded music if needed
We’ll build the set around your must-plays and any no-go tracks. If you’ve got a special first dance, we’ll brief the band to learn it where feasible.
Sound, space, and technical bits
Volume: Manchester venues often have sound limiters; our bands know how to work with them
Space: a trio can fit into a 3x2m area; bigger bands need more room and power access
Load-in: canalside mills and city-centre hotels can involve lifts and longer load-ins—plan 60–90 minutes for setup
Breaks: two 45-minute live sets with a short break is standard; we’ll fill gaps with suitable background playlists
If you’re unsure, share a quick room photo and your guest count—we’ll recommend the right configuration.
Booking timelines for Manchester
Weddings and peak December dates go first—secure 6–12 months ahead if you can
Student balls and office parties often confirm 2–4 months out

How to choose the right folk band in Manchester
Use this quick checklist:
Style fit: trad-leaning, indie-folk, or folk-rock?
Line-up size: duo for elegance, trio for balance, four-piece for dancing
Repertoire: do they cover the mix of trad tunes and acoustic anthems you want?
Space: will the band physically fit your chosen room and volume limits?
Logistics: set lengths, arrival time, and finish time aligned with your plan
Budget: within the £550–£1,300 range you’ve set aside
If two bands look perfect, we’ll highlight what actually differs—stage presence, harmony style, or how they handle dance-floor momentum—so the choice feels easy.
