Rio Brass put on a brilliant performance for a very special champagne, cocktails and canapés post wedding party.
Their sounds provide that extra sense of fun and party atmosphere and were the ideal choice.
Highly recommended and I hope we see you back at Whittlebury Park again in the future.

They had a great attitude and played a great collection of songs suitable for the event (Christmas theme). It was a freezing day but they played continually for a good couple of hours and helped the event to generate greater levels of interest and awareness up and down the high street.

Looking for a brass band in London for a wedding, corporate reception, brand activation, parade, or street party? You’re in the right place. We’ve helped thousands of events find their perfect soundtrack, and in the capital there’s nothing quite like the blast of trumpets and thump of sousaphone to get people moving. In this guide, we walk through styles, venues, budgets, planning tips, and how to brief your band so the whole thing runs like clockwork.
Why a Brass Band Works So Well in London
London events often need energy without fuss. Brass bands deliver exactly that. They’re mobile, quick to set up, and as happy in a town hall as they are weaving through a plaza. With the right line-up, you’ll cover ceremony music, roaming reception entertainment, and a full dance set without changing a single bit of kit. For brand activations and parades, they’re a walking billboard for joy. For summer parties or Christmas markets, they cut through crowd noise and create a shared moment that feels spontaneous and premium at the same time.
Styles to Consider for the Capital
Soho jazz parade: Think swingy horns, a touch of bebop, and that classic London night-out fizz. Perfect for hotel receptions, rooftop sundowners, or museum lates where you want sophistication with a wink.
Notting Hill carnival vibes: Big bass, Afro-Caribbean grooves, and party-starting horn lines. Great for street events, plazas, and lively summer parties. Expect call-and-response and irresistible rhythms that pull guests into the action.
Modern pop-brass covers: Chart hits reimagined for brass. This is ideal for weddings, corporate parties, and brand moments where recognisable hooks help the crowd sing along. It’s also a strong fit for product launches where familiarity is part of the brief.
New Orleans second-line: Laid-back swagger that can turn into a full-tilt march at a moment’s notice. It’s brilliant for processions, entrances, and moving a crowd from one space to another, like ceremony to drinks or foyer to ballroom.
Typical London Locations and How Brass Fits
Hotels and town halls: Polished interiors and stricter schedules call for a tidy, self-contained set-up. Most brass bands bring compact amplification or go fully acoustic. We plan arrival times around loading areas and lifts, and we keep sound levels appropriate for speeches and mingling.
Rooftops: Wind and neighbours are considerations. Acoustic roaming sets are popular here, with short, high-impact performances timed for golden hour. We advise on wind clips for charts and smart positioning so the sousaphone doesn’t try to fly.

Museums and galleries: You’ll often work with conservation policies and decibel caps. Brass still shines with reduced headcount, lighter percussion, and smart repertoire to maintain atmosphere without overwhelming the space.
Warehouse venues: High ceilings love horn sections. A funk-leaning or pop-brass set lands brilliantly here. We’ll coordinate power access if the band brings a small PA for the vocalist or keys.
Streets and plazas: This is home turf for roaming brass. We help you consider informal audience flow, stewards, and a route that makes sense for photography and video capture. For public spaces, we’ll discuss permissions with you early so the plan is solid.
What a Brass Band Usually Includes
Most London brass bands arrive as a 5 to 8 piece. Common line-ups include trumpet, trombone, sax, sousaphone or bass, and percussion. Some add a vocalist or extra horns for thicker harmonies. You’ll typically get:
A 60 to 120 minute performance split into sets
A roaming option for reception or parade moments
A fixed stage set for dancing
A simple rider and minimal tech requirements
Arrival 60 to 90 minutes before first note for setup and soundcheck
If you need ceremony music, ask for a stripped-back duo or trio from the same band to keep the sound world consistent through the day.
How Much Does a Brass Band in London Cost
For most London events, expect £900 to £1,800 for a professional brass band. The range depends on:
Band size and instrumentation
Peak dates and travel across the city
Extra sets, late finishes, or split performances
Add-ons like vocalist, DJ playlist between sets, or parade marshal
Early load-in requirements for complex venues
We display instant, all-inclusive pricing so you can compare options quickly. You’ll see what’s included at a glance, with clear upgrades if you want more oomph.
Matching Band Style to Your Event
Weddings: A second-line style is brilliant for the confetti moment and that joyful walk from ceremony to drinks. Later on, go pop-brass for sing-alongs. If you’re in a town hall or hotel, we’ll plan a tidy soundcheck and coordinate with the venue manager.
Corporate receptions: Soho jazz parade works a treat here. The groove is conversational, the look is sharp, and the band can roam to welcome guests as they arrive. If you want a brand moment, we can build a recognisable theme tune into a short burst for a product reveal.
Brand activations: Carnival vibe or modern pop-brass is your friend. High energy, great visuals, and flexible set lengths for staggered crowds. We’ll advise on set spacing to keep footfall consistent and the moment fresh for new passers-by.
Parades and summer parties: New Orleans second-line is made for movement. We’ll help with route planning, pacing, and micro-stops for photos. For summer parties on terraces or in courtyards, a roaming start followed by a fixed dance set is a proven format.
Christmas markets: Festive medleys on horns are pure atmosphere. Mix traditional tunes with pop classics and a cheeky funk twist. We’ll make sure the playlist feels seasonal without being predictable.
Sound, Power, and Practicalities
Many brass sets in London run acoustic or with minimal amplification. That means quick changeovers, fewer cables, and a cleaner look in photos. For larger rooms or dance sets, the band may bring a compact PA for a kick drum mic or vocals. We’ll confirm power points, stage size, and any cable runs, then shape the plan to suit your venue.
Noise management matters in the city. We’ll liaise on any venue or local requirements, advise on set length to reduce fatigue in reverberant rooms, and help you choose the right corners of a space for natural warmth without boom.
Repertoire Ideas That Land With London Crowds
Second-line classics to start the party rolling
Soho swing for cocktails and canapés
Pop-brass covers of chart favourites for the dance set
Carnival-flavoured grooves for outdoor moments
A short fanfare to announce speeches or a reveal
If there are must-play tunes, we’ll share them early with the band. Many groups can arrange a special song for a first dance or brand motif with reasonable notice.
Briefing Your Band Like a Pro
Give context, not just titles. Share your event goal, guest profile, and the moment you need to nail. Tell us if you want high-energy roaming at the start or a grand entrance later. Mention any restrictions in the space, like limited lift access or no drums in a certain gallery. Add a simple running order and point of contact for the band on arrival. Those small details mean the horns hit first note, on time, exactly where you want them.
Wet-Weather and Winter Tips
London weather doesn’t always read the plan. For outdoors, have a simple cover option and a warm inside corner as a fallback. Brass can play in chilly conditions, but valves and fingers like breaks, so we’ll structure shorter sets with warming gaps if needed. For Christmas markets and winter terraces, hot drinks backstage are small heroes. We’ll make sure the running order keeps players and guests comfortable.
Keeping Guests Engaged
Roaming brass thrives on interaction. Consider a short call-and-response moment, a parade loop around the venue, or a dance-off during the final tune. For corporate and brand events, build in a three-minute burst aligned with a speech or reveal. For weddings, plan a horn-led entrance to the wedding breakfast or a mini parade to the dance floor to start the evening set with a bang.
