Very talented musicians. Would happily recommend to anyone. These guys were the second music act of our evening and really helped to gently warm things up after a lovely calm and classical string quartet. I really felt that they read the atmosphere perfectly as the music felt just right for that point in the afternoon/evening. Very good indeed. A+

I can't thank capstick enough for making my husbands surprise party the success it was. They were fun and timed the times between dances just right and the music was great.

Absolutely fantastic band, David couldn't have done more to make the evening fun and his patience with first timers and children was wonderful. Our friends all commented on how good the music was and we would definitely recommend them..

"We really could not be happier, thank you so much for performing at our wedding in Topsham. Thoroughly recommend to anyone (I just wish we could give more than 5 stars) and look forward to listening to your CD!
Absolutely lovely people and fabulous voices, suited our small venue very well. Dave made all the organisation very easy and gave us lots of choices prior to the Wedding. Thanks again!!"

We had a wonderfully fun evening with a band who were excellent musicians, and Liz, the caller, giving us clear instructions for the dances. We all went home happily tired!
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Hire Folk Bands in Liverpool: A Buyer’s Guide That Actually Helps
Planning a celebration on Merseyside and want music with heart, heritage, and a proper singalong spirit? You’re in the right place. We’ve put together a practical, no-fluff guide to booking folk bands in Liverpool—what they sound like, where they fit best, how much to budget, and how to make the night flow beautifully. We’ll keep it down-to-earth, give you clear steps, and show you how to lock things in quickly with Poptop so you can enjoy the build-up rather than fret over details.
Why a folk band suits Liverpool so well
Liverpool loves a chorus. From sea-shanties to modern indie-folk, this city was built on songs people could belt out together. That’s exactly why folk bands land so well here: they’re inclusive, melodic, and naturally interactive. Guests don’t need to know complicated steps or lyrics to join in—call-and-response sections, easy choruses, and familiar fiddle lines do the heavy lifting. If you want an atmosphere that gathers everyone—gran to uni mates—folk delivers every time.
What a Liverpool folk band actually sounds like
“Folk” covers a lot of ground. Think of it as a toolkit your band uses to match the moment.
Acoustic core with guitar, fiddle, and rich vocals
Optional rhythm with bodhrán or cajón for that foot-tapping pulse
Uilleann pipes, whistle, or banjo for Celtic colour
Harmony singing that invites a crowd chorus without needing lyrics on a screen
Line-ups are flexible. Duos are brilliant for background and roaming sets. Trios give you energy and harmony without taking much space. Four-piece bands feel full and festival-ready. We’ll help you match size and sound to the room and guest list, so you get presence without overpowering conversation.
Where folk bands shine in Liverpool
We book folk bands across every kind of local celebration. Here are the sweet spots where they truly lift the room.
Weddings
Ceremony instrumentals set a warm tone, acoustic drinks-reception roaming adds charm, and a full evening band gets everyone singing before the DJ takes over.
Family parties
Birthdays, anniversaries, and reunions love the human touch of acoustic instruments and familiar choruses.
Heritage and cultural events
Folklore, maritime history, and community festivals pair naturally with fiddles, shanties, and storytelling songs.
Waterfront celebrations
Nothing says “Liverpool” quite like a chorus drifting over the docks. Folk fits the maritime setting without feeling forced.

Folk bands are adaptable, which is gold when venues vary.
Dockside venues
Folk feels authentic here. The band can nod to sea-shanty traditions without it becoming a theme night.
Community halls
Budget-friendly rooms with lively acoustics suit acoustic instrumentation. Add fairy lights, and you’ve built a cosy folk session.
Boutique hotels
A trio can be elegant over dinner, then turn it up a notch for the evening dance.
Rooftop terraces
For sunsets and toasts, roaming acoustic sets bring atmosphere without needing heavy staging.
Themes that work beautifully in Liverpool
You don’t need a full costume brief to create a thread through the night. A light touch goes a long way.
Sea-shanty nods
Sprinkle in a chorus or two from maritime favourites to honour the docks without going full nautical.
Scouse singalong spirit
Ask for crowd-pleasers and choruses everyone knows by the second verse. The band will pace it so even shy guests join in.
Acoustic roaming sets
Let the band weave through your party during reception drinks or between courses. It feels personal and keeps energy moving.
What to budget
For folk bands in Liverpool, typical fees sit around £500–£1,200. Where you’ll land depends on line-up size, performance length, travel, and peak dates.
Acoustic duo for a short reception set: about £500–£650
Trio with vocals and fiddle for two sets in the evening: about £700–£950
Four-piece with dance-friendly repertoire and basic lighting: about £950–£1,200
If you’re flexible on timings and set lengths, we’ll help you hit the sweet spot on price without compromising the experience. Travel is usually minimal for local bookings, and midweek or off-season dates can be kinder on the budget.
Setlists with a Liverpool flavour
A good folk band reads the room. Expect a blend that feels timeless rather than dated.
Traditional tunes with fiddle leads and toe-tapping rhythms
Contemporary acoustic covers reworked in a folk style
Shanty-style choruses for big, warm singalongs
Slow airs and gentle ballads for the quiet, emotional moments
Optional ceilidh segment if you fancy simple group dances taught on the spot
If there are songs you really want to hear—or avoid—tell us when you book. We’ll pass preferences to the band early so they can plan smooth transitions.
Roaming acoustic vs staged show
Both have their place. Choose what suits your flow.
Roaming acoustic
Perfect for welcome drinks, canapés, and mingling. The band moves between groups, takes requests, and creates mini-moments around the space.
Staged show
Great for speeches, first dances, and headline slots. The band controls the room, builds a proper arc, and lands those big chorus moments together.
Plenty of clients book both: roaming early, stage later. We’ll help you plot the switch so it feels natural and keeps attention.
Sound, space, and volume made simple
Folk bands don’t need stadium rigs, but a bit of planning protects your atmosphere.
Space
A trio fits in a cosy corner. Four-pieces like a little breathing room. We’ll confirm footprint and power in advance.
Volume
Acoustic sets are naturally guest-friendly. If your venue has sound limiters, we’ll pair you with acts used to working under them.
Weather
For outdoor or rooftop bookings, have a covered spot ready. Stringed instruments and rain do not mix.
Changeovers
If you’re also booking a DJ, we’ll co-ordinate so there’s no dead air between sets.
Timings that keep energy high
A classic evening format looks like this, but we’ll tailor it to your plan:
Arrival and quick soundcheck before guests enter
First 45-minute set after the meal or as the evening crowd arrives
Short break while playlists keep the mood up
Second 45-minute set with bigger singalongs and a dance-friendly finish
Optional late acoustic finale to send everyone off smiling
For weddings, you can add a ceremony song or aisle instrumental earlier, then a roaming reception set, followed by the two evening sets.
Booking checklist you can actually use
Pick your date, venue, and rough guest count
Decide on roaming, staged, or both
Choose your line-up size based on room and budget
Share any must-play or must-avoid songs
Flag sound limiters or neighbours with strict quiet hours
Confirm first dance or special dedications
Lock in arrival, set times, and break length
Share contact details for your venue manager so access is easy
We’ll capture all of this during booking so there’s no last-minute scramble.
