John & Alison provided a first class service for my wedding last Saturday. John stayed in contact throughout the process, listened to our requirements and made the whole evening personal to us including using our own playlist we sent him. Both are super friendly and lovely people, all of our guests loved them and everyone had a blast. Set up was quick and the extras like lights etc were awesome. All of this and also great value for money. 11/10 service, will definitely be recommending/using them again for any events in the future. Thank you to both!

I know booking a DJ can be a bit daunting as you're not sure what you are getting, but trust me when I say DJ Lee Smart will be perfect for your event. Prior to our event (joint 30th party and wedding reveal) Lee was responsive and helpful, taking song suggestions and providing information. He arrived early to the event and had a smooth set up without any problems. He kept the night going with the music, playing banger after banger and even assisted announcing we had a video to show which was for our wedding reveal. Me and my wife couldn't have asked for more and Lee helped create a memorable night for us both. 5 stars for sure, don't hesitate to book.

Kevin from Ace Disco & Karaoke, was brillant. We asked for traditional disco playlist through the 60s to present day, not yo much DJ chat for a wedding. Delivered on all counts, great play list great guy cost very reasonable. Pre event kept us informed off all details. Will recommend Ace disco and poptop.
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Wedding DJ Hire in Leeds: A Practical Buyer’s Guide
If you’re planning a wedding in Leeds and you want a packed dance floor from first dance to final chorus, a great Wedding DJ is the smartest booking you’ll make. We’ve helped couples across Yorkshire match with brilliant DJs who know how to read a room, mix seamlessly, and keep things stress free. In this guide we’ll walk through what to expect, how to compare options, the going rates in Leeds, and the little details that make a huge difference on the day.
Why choose a Wedding DJ in Leeds
Leeds weddings have a vibe all of their own. The city loves a good singalong and it shows when those Yorkshire anthems kick in. A local Wedding DJ brings three advantages that really matter.
Music instincts that suit Leeds. From indie and alt favourites to chart and house blends, the right DJ knows how to move from ceremony soundtrack to evening energy without jarring shifts.
Venue savvy. Rustic barns in the countryside, city lofts with concrete echoes, and heritage halls with high ceilings each need different sound and lighting choices.
Crowd reading. Leeds dance floors range from festival themed bashes to black tie dinners. A DJ who plays locally will adapt quicker and keep energy consistent.
What a Wedding DJ actually does
A professional wedding specialist is more than a person behind decks. Here’s the core service you should expect.
Ceremony acoustic playback. High quality audio for aisle walks, signing, and exit tracks, with clean cue points and volume control.
Cocktail and dinner ambience. Low tempo, well sequenced background sets that never overpower conversation.
Evening mix. A seamless run that connects genres, avoids long gaps, and builds momentum naturally so your dance floor grows, not dips.
Optional MC duties. Clear and friendly announcements for cake cutting, first dance, bouquet moments, and last song.
Technical setup and pack down. Timely arrival, tidy cabling, and safe power management, which is essential in heritage spaces.
Music styles that work in Leeds
The best playlists here nod to Yorkshire tastes, then stretch into crowd pleasers. We usually recommend a mix of these:
Indie and alt staples that every Leeds crowd knows.
Yorkshire anthems for the big singalong moments that bring the generations together.
Chart and house blends for a modern, upbeat flow as the night accelerates.
Festival vibe sequences that feel like a tent at golden hour, perfect for rustic barns and summer receptions.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
We always suggest a short must-play list from you, a do-not-play list for any overplayed tracks, and then freedom for the DJ to respond to the room.
Venue considerations across Leeds
Sound behaves differently in each type of space, so we plan the rig to suit the room.
Rustic barns. Wood softens high frequencies but bass can travel into adjacent spaces. We’ll suggest dispersed speakers rather than a single loud stack, plus warm uplighting that keeps the countryside feel.
City lofts. Concrete and glass create reflections. We prefer controlled PA with tighter dispersion and a little acoustic awareness in placement so vocals stay crisp.
Heritage halls. High ceilings can swallow detail. A pair of mains and a tasteful sub give full coverage at sensible volumes. We keep lighting elegant, avoiding anything that clashes with period features.
If your venue has sound limiters, we’ll plan around them with smart gain staging and appropriate speakers so the party stays on the right side of the threshold.
The price you should expect in Leeds
For a professional Wedding DJ in Leeds, typical packages sit between 320 and 650 pounds. Where you land in that range depends on a few levers.
Duration. Ceremony support and a long evening finish will cost more than a simple evening set.
Equipment. Premium sound, intelligent lighting, and stylish DJ booths increase the fee, but also the quality of the experience.
Travel and access. Rural barns or tight city load-ins add time.
Peak dates. Saturdays in summer and bank holidays book out first.
Extras. Uplighting, confetti cannons, sax accompaniment, or a compact ceremony rig will nudge the total.
We like transparent, all-inclusive pricing so you can make quick decisions without waiting on back-and-forth quotes.
How to shortlist DJs with confidence
When you browse Wedding DJ profiles for Leeds, focus on signals that actually predict a great night.
Recent weddings in similar venues. Proof they know how your space behaves.
Live mix samples. Short blends that show musical taste and smooth transitions.
Kit list at a glance. Reliable controllers or decks, quality speakers, tidy booth, and backup plans.
Reviews that mention dance floor energy, friendly attitude, and clear communication.
Flexibility on playlists. You want curation, not a rigid list or a free-for-all.
If you already have a rough theme, share it early. A festival leaning reception feels different to a city loft party, and the programming should reflect that.
Building your music brief
A tight music brief helps your DJ deliver the soundtrack you imagined while keeping the dance floor moving.
Five to ten must-plays that feel like you.
A short do-not-play list for songs you’re tired of.
A sketch of the evening arc, for example indie and alt at the start, house and chart blends later, singalong Yorkshire favourites for the last hour.
Key moments with timings, including aisle tracks, first dance, and last song.
Any cultural or family traditions the DJ should honour.
Keep it simple. We’ll guide the flow and use your pointers as anchors.
Technical details that matter
Great parties are built on small technical choices you rarely notice, because nothing goes wrong.
Power. We check circuits and avoid daisy chains that trip at the wrong moment.
Sound level. We set volume for comfort and clarity, not just loudness, which means less guest fatigue and longer dances.
Lighting. A modest rig can transform a room. Uplights frame the space, moving heads add lift for choruses, and a subtle haze makes beams visible without fogging photographs.
Backups. Secondary laptop or USBs, spare cables, and a second microphone so speeches never stall.
Microphones. Wireless handhelds for speeches and a discrete lav if your celebrant prefers hands free.
Extras worth considering
Add-ons can elevate the evening without overwhelming your budget.
Ceremony mini-rig with a lapel mic for vows, essential in barns and heritage halls.
Architectural uplighting that colours walls and pillars.
Compact photobooth for a steady stream of guest snapshots between dances.
Sax and DJ combination for peak hour.
Early setup so everything is ready before guests arrive.
We’ll advise on what fits your space and theme so it feels curated rather than crowded.

Here is a typical outline that fits most Leeds venues and guest counts.
Ceremony acoustic playback with lapel mic for vows.
Background sets for drinks and dinner at gentle volume.
Evening party from 7 pm to midnight with seamless mixing across indie and alt, chart and house blends, and the Yorkshire anthems that guarantee a hands-in-the-air finish.
Optional MC for key moments.
Professional PA, tasteful lighting, and tidy booth.

Pricing for this level of service commonly sits within 320 to 650 pounds, depending on exact timings and extras.
Tips to keep your dance floor full
A little planning goes a long way. These are our favourite quick wins.
Put speeches before the first dance so the party launches cleanly.
Keep the bar near the dance floor so guests do not drift away.
Choose a first dance that moves into an inviting track for everyone to join.
Aim for lights low enough to feel like a party but bright enough for photos.
Feed your DJ. A happy human makes better decisions at 11 pm.

We love weddings in this city. The venues are characterful, the crowds sing louder, and when the last track rolls out to a chorus of Yorkshire pride, you feel it. Let’s build that moment together.
