"If your looking for a brass band, look no further. I can't recommend this group enough. I was let down by a local band 2 days before my wedding on new years eve. After a bit of panicing I came across Positive Brassitude and all my worries were over. In 2 days they had assembled together and learnt a new song. Despite never playing the song before they Absolutley nailed it and it was the talk of the wedding. I can't thank them enough for what they did and their contact and booking was really professional. 10/10"

They had a great attitude and played a great collection of songs suitable for the event (Christmas theme). It was a freezing day but they played continually for a good couple of hours and helped the event to generate greater levels of interest and awareness up and down the high street.

We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies

We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.

Brass Band Hire in Bristol: A Buyer’s Guide

Bristol and brass belong together. The city lives on rhythm, colour, and a bit of joyful noise, which is exactly what a great brass band brings. If you’re planning a wedding by the water, a street fair with local flavour, a brand pop-up with bite, or a culture event that needs lift, we’ll help you book the right band, at the right price, with zero faff.

Poptop is not just a party planning marketplace; it’s the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable event, ensuring peace of mind and support every step of the way. With us, you get instant, all-inclusive pricing, vetted bands, and clear communication from enquiry to encore.

Why Bristol Is a Perfect Match for Brass

Bristol has an easy confidence when it comes to music. The city’s outdoor spaces and independent spirit suit brass bands down to the ground. We see three big reasons they work so well here:

  • The St Paul’s Carnival energy. That upbeat, horn-led feel translates beautifully to parades, community days, and roaming performances that keep people smiling as they move.
  • Eclectic styles that still feel local. Funk-brass grooves, ska-tinged street sets, and New Orleans struts fit Bristol’s musical DNA without stealing the spotlight.
  • Spaces that invite sound. Harbourside venues, warehouses, pubs with gardens, and parks all welcome brass. The music fills space without needing a heavy tech footprint.

Event Types Where Brass Bands Shine

We recommend brass for a wide range of Bristol events. Here’s how we’d use them, and why it works.

  • Weddings: A daytime roaming set as guests arrive, a celebratory march after the ceremony, then an evening party set that flips from classics to modern bangers. Brass brings instant joy and brilliant photos.
  • Arts and culture events: Openings, festival launches, and outdoor programmes benefit from the visual pop of horns. Short sets across the day keep energy high without tiring your audience.
  • Street fairs and community days: Roaming performance threads the music through stalls and crowds. It feels inclusive, never static, and makes the fair feel bigger.
  • Brand pop-ups: Brass turns heads fast. A tight 15 minute set on the hour creates anticipation, footfall, and content moments without blocking access or requiring a big stage.
  • Carnival processions: A band leading the way, call-and-response with the crowd, percussion driving the pace. It’s the heartbeat of a parade.

  • Funk-brass: Tight rhythms, bold lines, party energy. Ideal for evening receptions and brand launches.
  • Ska-tinged street sets: Upbeat two-tone feel that suits parades, street fairs, and summer afternoons.
  • New Orleans style: Second-line strut, a touch of swing, sunny melodies. Perfect for roaming and Harbourside strolls.
  • Mellow daytime roaming: Softer dynamics for garden drinks or family-friendly spaces.

Line-up sizes vary. Here’s how to think about it:

  • Small and nimble, about 4 to 5 players. Great for pubs with gardens, indoor roaming, smaller weddings.
  • Mid-size, about 6 to 8 players. A strong balance for most Bristol venues, enough volume outdoors without overwhelming.
  • Big and bold, about 9 to 12 players. Best for carnivals, parks, wide open spaces, or when you want a headline feel.

Venues and Spaces Across the City

Every site has its quirks. We tailor the band plan to the space so you get great sound and smooth flow.

  • Harbourside venues: Wind can carry high frequencies. A mid-size band with percussion keeps definition.
  • Warehouses: Hard surfaces reflect sound. A smaller line-up and careful placement stops muddiness. Short, punchy sets work brilliantly.
  • Pubs with gardens: Acoustic or semi-acoustic roaming during daylight, then a fixed set near the garden entrance so guests can gather easily.
  • Community spaces: Flexible timings around speeches or showcases. Brass can split into mini-units to cover multiple rooms.
  • Parks: Battery power or fully acoustic roaming. We plan a rolling route so more guests experience a front-row moment.

Repertoire That Works in Bristol

We build sets that feel rooted in the city’s taste but broad enough for mixed crowds.

  • Upbeat party tunes with a horn twist. Expect pop, indie, and dance classics arranged for brass so everyone can sing along.
  • Funk and soul standards that sit naturally on horns. Great for first dances with a twist or finale moments.
  • Ska flavours for outdoor fun. Keeps feet moving without pushing volume too hard.
  • Carnival and New Orleans favourites for parades and roaming. Call-and-response works a treat with families.

The Practicalities: Sound, Power, and Volume

One reason brass bands are so easy to love in Bristol is the light tech footprint.

  • Power: Roaming sets are usually acoustic or battery-assisted. Fixed evening sets may use a small PA for a vocalist or to lift the bottom end.
  • Volume: Outdoors, a mid-size band carries nicely without being harsh. Indoors, we shape the set and placement so conversation is still comfortable.
  • Weather planning: For outdoor events, we plan covered performance points and a wet-weather route. Instruments can handle light conditions, but we always keep them safe.

Budgeting in Bristol

Typical pricing for a brass band in Bristol ranges from £600 to £1,100. Where you’ll land depends on:

  • Performance length and the number of sets
  • Line-up size and whether you need a vocalist
  • Roaming only, fixed stage only, or a mix of both
  • Travel and arrival time if your load-in window is tight
  • Any special arrangements or rehearsals for bespoke moments

We show instant, all-inclusive prices so you can compare options in minutes. No waiting around, no hidden extras, just clear figures you can act on.

A Simple Booking Plan

We like plans that you can follow at a glance. Here’s the process we recommend.

  • Decide the feel: carnival energy, funk-brass party, ska street vibe, or mellow daytime roaming.
  • Choose the flow: one roaming set on arrival, a fixed set after food, then a final set to finish big.
  • Pick the size: small for intimate, mid-size for most venues, big for a park or procession.
  • Lock the moments: entrance, first dance, parade start, final tune.
  • Confirm logistics: meeting point, route, wet-weather cover, any sound limits.

  • You book with confidence. We vet our suppliers carefully, provide alternatives if needed, and protect your booking.

Example Briefs That Work

Sometimes it helps to see what “good” looks like. Use any of these as a starting point and we’ll refine the details.

  • Waterside wedding: Roaming quartet on arrival, gentle New Orleans tunes during drinks, then a 45 minute funk-brass set after the first dance.
  • Street fair afternoon: Mid-size band, three 20 minute sets on the hour, ska-tinged street tunes, roaming between stalls with a finale at the main entrance.
  • Brand pop-up: Sharp 15 minute hits at pre-announced times, modern hooks for social content, compact line-up to keep the footprint light.
  • Community carnival procession: Big band with percussion, classic carnival numbers, a set route, and finale in the main open space.

How to Brief Us Like a Pro

You don’t need to be an event planner to get a brilliant result. Give us:

  • Date, postcode, guest count, and timings
  • A short style note, like “St Paul’s Carnival energy” or “mellow daytime roaming”
  • Any key moments that need cues
  • Access details and sound considerations

From there, we’ll shortlist bands, confirm logistics, and produce a simple running order.
