The entertainment is a big part of your wedding day, so it’s important to spend time researching and selecting the right artists to keep your guests entertained.

There are several key periods of your wedding day when guests will be waiting around: before the service, at the reception before your food is served, and after dinner, before the DJ kicks in.

While your guests may be happy chatting amongst themselves during some of this time, it’s a great idea to bring in some entertainment to set the tone for whatever’s next.

Here are our top picks for entertainment throughout the day:

Before the Ceremony

Step away from the CD playlist and consider a string quartet, a classical cellist, or an acoustic guitar act to fill your ceremony venue with your favourite tunes as guests take their seats. Your chosen act can then play you out of the venue after you’ve finished your vows, upping the tempo and getting your guests ready for the party to come.

At the Reception

There’s often a lull after the ceremony and before the evening do really gets going. Entertain your guests with some close-up magic, a caricaturist, or a retro sweet stall to get the atmosphere buzzing as guests enjoy a glass of champagne or a cocktail.

After Dinner

Once the food has been cleared away, it’s time to really get the party started. Find a great band to play your favourite tunes and guest requests before the DJ steps in, get a photo-booth set up so guests can take fancy-dress snaps for  your wedding guestbook and for them to take home, and hire in a burger or ice cream van for when everyone gets hungry later in the evening.

If you’re on a limited budget or want to keep external suppliers to a minimum, consider using games as table centre pieces, including fancy dress items as wedding favours, or making a creativity corner where guests can cut, stick and colour wedding mementos for you throughout the day.

The last thing you want to be worrying about on your wedding day is whether your guests are having a good time, so make sure your chosen entertainment is arranged well in advance.
