This year has certainly been a rollercoaster of change, especially with regards to the events industry. Poptop conducted research with over 150 every day event planners from all over the UK to find out exactly how COVID-19 has affected their events, and how they feel about the future. These are the results that we found.
How Has COVID-19 Affected Our Events?
✅ Over 90% of events have been affected by COVID-19 and the majority of these events planned were weddings, which is closely followed by birthday parties.
✅ There is some positive news, with over 50% of events have been rescheduled and nearly 20% of events still went ahead.
✅ Of the events that have been rescheduled, over half of them have already been rearranged for a new date!
How Do We Feel About Events Now?
✅ Nearly three quarters of event planners feel comfortable enough to attend and host outdoor events within the government guidelines, but only 41% of planners feel comfortable attending and hosting indoor events.
✅ Our research showed that opinions are split when it comes to changes in Government advice, with 45% of people feeling comfortable attending a large event of 100+ people straight away if the Government allowed it.
✅ With regards to large events, most event planners are happy to attend sooner than May 2021, but nearly a third are still looking to wait until the summer of 2021.
How Concerned Are We About COVID-19 at Events?
✅ Unsurprisingly, with regards to COVID-19, event planners are now 80% more concerned with Health & Safety at events.
✅ The biggest concerns are issues of social distancing, the risk of spreading COVID-19 and mixing in large groups.
✅ Interestingly, we found that some event planners are also concerned with the adverse effects on enjoyment that the restrictions may pose.
