Amazing doesn't sum up how great Giulia and the lizards Duo were. Accommodated to our needs. Exchanged loads of messages and a couple of phone calls to make sure all was good. All our guests commented how great they are and have asked about them since.
Definitely recommend. We hope to book them again one day.

Our sincere thanks to D'Arcy Spice for a great evening. The feedback we have had from all our guests was that they enjoyed the evening very much. The music was excellent and Polly did a great job with the "Calling", guiding us through a variety of interesting and amusing dances! So, highly recommended!

My partner Becky organised Pipley Dance and Ceilidh Band for my surprise 30th birthday party and I cannot recommend them highly enough! We had such a brilliant time and the band really made it the perfect celebration. As a group we were mixed abilities and ages, but everyone got involved at some point and we have had so many wonderful comments from guests about how much they enjoyed it! Rachel and the band were so friendly and such talented musicians. Their caller is excellent, offering really clear instructions and was great at making people feel welcome. I have been to a number of ceilidhs over the last few years and I definitely think that they are the best band I have seen. I just hope that we can go to see them again soon! Thanks to the band for being part of the celebration and making so many wonderful memories. Rob

"Ben and the rest of the band were absolutely brilliant- from the pre event communication, where Ben was more than happy to answer my queries and make the evening meet my needs, to the actual night where the band were punctual and delivered on all they had promised- really excellent ceiligh playing with a fresh twist and an element of fun! They made my party an absolute blast- everyone, all ages were up and dancing and the room was full of laughter and smiles! I have received a huge amount of compliments about the quality of the band and atmosphere created from my guests.
I couldn’t recommend Price of my Pig more highly - I can guarantee they will give any event value for money - and if you are looking for the DJ option to extend your event Definitely go off that too.
Thank you so much Ben and the rest of the band.
Penny"
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Folk Bands in Birmingham: A Buyer’s Guide From People Who Book Them Every Week
Planning an event in Birmingham and want music that gets people smiling, singing, and actually talking to each other between dances? Folk bands are our go-to for that. From contemporary ceilidh to mixed-era singalongs, the right band makes canalside summer parties feel breezy, brings warmth to civic halls, and turns a conference dinner into a proper celebration. In this guide we’ll walk you through how to choose and book Folk Bands in Birmingham, what they cost, how they work in different venues, and how to make the whole thing simple with Poptop.
Why Folk Works So Well In Birmingham
Birmingham audiences are famously mixed: different ages, backgrounds, and music tastes sharing the same dance floor. Folk bands thrive on that variety. They blend familiar melodies with a beat that’s easy to move to. Add a caller for a contemporary ceilidh and suddenly strangers are laughing together in the first ten minutes. It’s inclusive, upbeat, and perfect for events where you want people to relax quickly.
What we love most is flexibility. Folk line-ups can scale from an acoustic trio for a canalside reception to a four- or five-piece with caller and percussion for a wedding or awards night. The sound sits happily under conversation during dinner, then ramps up for dancing when it’s time to celebrate.
Typical Event Types We Book In Birmingham
We see strong demand for Folk Bands in Birmingham across these formats:
Weddings where the brief is “fun, inclusive, nothing too cheesy”
Awards nights needing lively walk-ups and a dance set that unites the room
Charity galas with a welcoming acoustic vibe early, then a ceilidh set post-auction
Garden parties that feel relaxed in daylight and upbeat by dusk
If your event looks different, that’s fine. Folk is versatile. We’ll match a line-up and set style that suits your plan, not the other way round.
Venue Styles And How To Make Them Sound Great
Birmingham is rich in spaces. A few quick notes on the common ones:
Canalside bars and terraces
Open air or semi-open areas suit acoustic or semi-acoustic line-ups. A trio with guitar, fiddle, and bodhrán works beautifully. Keep amplification modest to respect neighbours and let conversations flow. Battery-powered amplification is handy where sockets are scarce.
Civic halls
High ceilings and lively acoustics can make a small band sound huge. Add a caller and you’ve got a ready-made dance floor. Ask us to check reverberation and bring a compact PA so the speech is clear and the music remains crisp rather than echoey.

We are a 2-piece playing high-energy klezmer and eastern European folk with the occasional gypsy jazz standard thrown in. We can cater for all moods - from high-energy dancing to nice background acoustic sets. We have a wide-ranging klezmer repertoire through performing the genre over many years but if you have any requests that aren't in our standard set list we will look at adding them.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
These spaces are practical and often carpeted, which is great for clarity. We’ll place the band to avoid blocking screens or stage branding, and we’ll tailor the walk-on stings and intervals to your running order. If there’s a tight turnaround, a trio can set up in under 30 minutes.
Country houses
Lots of character, sometimes strict noise or curfew rules. A versatile trio or quartet is ideal. If there’s a sound limiter, we’ll choose a drummer with brushes or a cajón to keep energy high without triggering the meter. For outdoor drinks, book an unplugged roaming set.
Ceilidh, Singalongs, Or A Bit Of Both?
You don’t have to pick just one. The most popular Folk Bands in Birmingham blend styles across the night:
Contemporary ceilidh with a friendly caller who teaches simple moves in minutes
Mixed-era folk singalongs covering trad, Celtic favourites, and feel-good pop-folk
Lively instrumental sets as scene-setting background during drinks or dinner
We’ll help you plan the order. A typical flow is acoustic welcome set, short ceilidh to break the ice, speeches or awards, then a final party set where the caller returns and the band nudges the tempo up.
Line-Ups That Work For Mixed Crowds
Start with the audience and room size, then choose a line-up:
Trio: guitar or bouzouki, fiddle, and percussion. Compact, affordable, plenty of energy.
Four-piece: add accordion or banjo for a richer, danceable sound.
Caller add-on: transforms a great band into a great party. Highly recommended for weddings and charity nights.
If your guests span teenagers to grandparents, a four-piece with caller is the sweet spot. It’s engaging without being overwhelming.
What You’ll Pay In Birmingham
Most Folk Bands in Birmingham fall between £550 to £1,250, depending on date, set length, travel, and whether you add a caller. A sample breakdown:
Weeknight acoustic trio for a garden party: typically toward the lower end
Weekend wedding quartet with caller and PA: mid to upper end
Peak summer Saturdays or New Year dates: expect premium pricing and book early
We price transparently so you know exactly what’s included from the start.
How Sets And Timings Usually Work
Standard format is two 45-minute or two 60-minute sets within a 3-hour window. You can extend to three sets if you want more dance time. We’ll bring a curated break playlist, or you can supply your own. For awards nights, we’ll map short musical stings for winners and a punchy closer before photos.
Setup is usually 45 to 60 minutes. If your venue turnarounds are tight, let us know. We can schedule an early setup or switch to a lighter backline to keep things moving.
Sound, Power, And Space You’ll Need
Power: one or two standard sockets near the performance area are fine for most line-ups
Space: a trio needs around 3 metres by 2 metres; a four-piece is happier with 4 metres by 3 metres
Sound limiters: very common in country houses and some civic spaces. We’ll configure a limiter-friendly setup and brief the band, so energy stays high without trips
Outdoor sets: shade and a level surface help keep instruments in tune and the band comfortable. We’ll plan a wet-weather option just in case
Setlists That Keep Everyone Happy
We aim for familiar hooks with a folk heartbeat. You can expect:
Trad favourites and Celtic instrumentals that work for ceilidh
Modern pop-folk covers to keep wider tastes engaged
A couple of slower tunes for breathers and first dances
Tell us if there are must-plays or a few you’d rather avoid. Folk bands are brilliant at reading the room, but a few signposts from you makes it personal.

Pick timings: two 60-minute sets is a great starting point

Tick those off and you’re 90 percent there.
Example Packages People Book
Here are three popular approaches that fit Birmingham venues and mixed audiences:
Acoustic welcome set: roaming or lightly amplified trio for canalside drinks, followed by a punchy singalong finale after sundown
Ceilidh plus covers: caller-led dances to break the ice, dinner pause, then modern folk-pop for a lively finish
Awards night lift: instrumental walk-ups for winners, short ceilidh burst to reset energy, then upbeat closing set for networking and photos
Each package can be tailored to your timings and budget. We’ll suggest the best fit once we know your plan.
Making The Most Of Your Budget
If you want maximum impact inside £550 to £1,250:
Pick a trio for smaller rooms and invest in a caller add-on
Keep travel simple by choosing bands already based near Birmingham
Use a compact PA where the venue acoustics do the heavy lifting
Align sets with natural peaks: after dinner, after speeches, or just after sunset for garden parties
We’ll be honest about what you will and won’t notice on the night. Spending smart beats spending more.
