The Sassenachs Ceilidh Band

This band were just what I was looking for my wedding. Loads of energy, brilliant musicians, and excellent caller. I had beginners and experienced ceilidh goers among my guests and everyone left with a smile on their face and completely knackered out!! Signs of a brilliant ceilidh. If you want a proper party ceilidh band, go with these guys. Laurie made the booking of the band really easy and was happy to discuss any ideas or questions we had. One of the band even stepped up for a last minute request from one of our guests who wanted to do a surprise song for us, and it all went seamlessly and helped create another special moment for our big day. Thank you Sassenachs!

Great Ceilidh! We had the Sassenachs as our wedding band (for a Ceilidh and as DJ). They got everyone up and dancing and Laurie is great at explaining the different dances.

I went to the Ceilidh Club in London when the Sassenachs were playing. It was brilliant fun, and if you are new to Scottish dancing you can learn on the night as the Sassenachs caller talks you through all the moves. Everyone is included. Highly recommended!

Ceilidh Club, what a great night!!! Perfect Friday night out! Novices will find it so easy thanks to Laurie, the caller who is just brilliant! He had the whole crowd in the palm of his hand to dance in harmony, twirling and having great fun. I have been to many Fest Noz in Brittany but never to a Ceilidh. Very good band too! Will do that again!

I recently attended a wedding where The Sassenachs were playing. Laurie’s instructions were very clear to ensure we (mainly) knew what we were doing! We all had a wonderful evening. The music and energy was so infectious that guests danced constantly throughout the whole evening.

We hired the Sassenachs to play our wedding and they were absolutely tremendous. Laurie is a brilliant Caller and went out of his way to make sure everyone got involved - only about half of our guests had been to a ceilidh before but everyone had a great time. We are very grateful to Laurie for taking great care to ensure our first dance went off to plan and for looking after the playing of our own playlist after the Sassenachs' set had finished. Played at a Hospital party in London - not many people seasoned ceilidh dancers, they were really a superb band and the caller giving instructions was excellent!

The Sassenachs played a Robert Burns’ Ceilidh this year, and they were fantastic! The caller was brilliant and taught our crowd the dances effortlessly, and the band were so accommodating and patient with our schedule running late. They provided a top class service with a professional sound.

I went to a ceilidh with The Sassenachs at the ceilidh club in London. What an awesome night. The band is amazing. So much energy. The place was packed and everyone was having heaps of fun. Don’t worry if you’ve never done ceilidh dancing before as the announcer gives superb instructions to follow and if you do make a mistake it’s all part of the fun anyway. Highly recommend these guys!

Went to the Ceilidh at the Start of Jan in Cecil Sharp House and had a lot of fun. Laurie was a fantastic teacher and the moves were clear and fun to perform - really recommend anyone try it out!! I went for a friends birthday and she said it reminded her of being back in Scotland, where she used to ceilidh every week!

We went to one of the events in Camden and had such a great night, will definitely be going back and bringing more people along! Everything was well explained and easy to pick up - we spent the evening dancing, smiling and laughing!

Our wedding guests absolutely LOVED The Sassenachs Ceilidh Band and that was evidenced by all the smiles we saw flying around the dance floor. Not only was the group high energy and fun, but they were also on the ball. It wasn’t until quite late in the night we realized our timing was not quite what we planned, but the band handled it so well, proactively coordinating with the other musicians, so that everything went smoothly and they didn't have to bother us with a thing. Thank you for being such great sports and most of all, for all the laughs!

My husband and I cannot recommend The Sassenachs Ceilidh Band more highly. We hired the band for our wedding in September 2018 and prior to the day the band helped us to select our favourite Ceilidh Dances which would fit into the time we had (Laurie was easily contactable for any questions we had). It was a scorching hot summers day so some of the dances were shortened slightly to ensure our guests did not keel over, however, that only added to the fun! Half of our guests knew what they were doing as Scots, however the other half had never been to a Ceilidh before - this did not matter at all as Laurie (the caller of the band) was absolutely fantastic at teaching the dances and talking the guests through the steps as each dance went on. This was definitely the highlight of our wedding and what all our guests remember most from the day - the band sounded and looked fantastic and it kept all of our guests entertained as everyone was up on the dance floor having a great time. Definitely hire The Sassenachs for a wedding to remember!

We hired the Sassenachs for our wedding (July 2018) and couldn’t be happier with that decision. From the start, the band leader was excellent with answering questions, and providing feedback. He met us at the venue to make sure a ceilidh would work, and on the day the band was fantastic. One of the grooms is from the USA and so many American guests who had never experienced ceilidh were on the dance floor the entire time. All of our guests loved it. If you are thinking of ceilidh for your big day, don’t give it another thought - book the Sassenachs!

What a wonderful night with Laurie and the band - prompt, charming service, very clearly explained so easy for all levels of fitness, beautiful tunes, speedy and efficient setting up and clearing away. I couldn’t recommend The Sassenachs more highly.

The band were fantastic. It was my 50th birthday, we had over 100 guests all wanting to dance at the same time. Everyone had an amazing time. Will definitely recommend!

The Sassenachs Ceilidh band are fab. Great music, fun dances, well explained and perfectly demonstrated. I've been to a few ceilidh dances with the band and I've smiled and laughed so much that my head has hurt. They get everyone dancing and it is a highly inclusive experience. What a great night with Laurie and the band who kept a crowd of 200 Scots entertained and dancing throughout our fundraising event at Cecil Sharpe House. Most folk were up and dancing and learned that there is a satisfying and enjoyable alternative to House Music, Disco and the Hokey Kokey Thanks Laurie!

Laurie and the band were awesome, really professional, ran perfectly to time and were great at teaching the dances to the novices in our wedding party. If you're looking for a ceilidh (and thus looking for a good time), I can't recommend them highly enough.

Absolutely cracking night! Full of energy and one of the best ceilidh bands I've ever heard.

Went to a ceilidh run by the Sassenachs at Cecil Sharp House near Regents Park. It was tremendous fun and so well arranged. There was a huge crowd of mainly beginners there but somehow the band managed to have everyone spinning around the room without incident! Such a great night out and felt like a real workout too. Superb music, fabulous coordination and everyone felt included, no matter their level. Couldn't recommend these guys more if you want a fabulous evening of laughter and dancing.

Had a lovely evening at the ceilidh club last night dancing with the Sassenachs. Great sound from the band (nice mix of traditional and modern) and lots of variety in the dances. My friends loved it too, will definitely be attending again!

Fantastic band. Manage to blend a modern and traditional sound, and also provide really clear calling for the dances so that absolute beginners can jump right in. Always a fun night with great music.
