The Players below are the regular players for the Quartet, however, when these players are unavailable we also work with many other players, all of whom are full-time professional musicians.

Julia Loucks

Canadian violinist Julia Loucks recently completed her postgraduate degree at the Royal College of Music as a Frederick Johnston Scholar supported by an Astor Award.

She is currently on trial for a position with the Welsh National Opera orchestra, and also appears with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of Southbank Sinfonia in 2013, during which time she appeared as a soloist with Piazzolla’s “Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas”, as well as taking part in chamber music concerts in the Purcell Room for the Rest is Noise Festival and the Crush Room at the Royal Opera House.

She has received generous support from the Williamson Foundation and Dartington School, as well as the Afternoon Music Club of Phoenixville and Matt Bailey Memorial Scholarships, both of which are awarded to a student pursuing music performance at a major university or conservatory.

Julia is a founding member of the London-based Live Film Orchestra, and Chamber Music Without Borders, a music outreach program based in Montreal.

Henry Salmon

Native Londoner Henry took up the violin age 3 and his music has taken him as far afield as China, the USA and India. He studied at Leeds University and UNT (Dallas) under the tutelage of Peter Poole, Raimonda Koco, Igor Borodin and Julia Bushkova.

Since returning to London Henry has worked across a wide range of Musical Genres. From Classical Orchestral work with the English National Ballet, to Bollywood recordings for Chennai’s Ilayairaja. He has worked in the west end in Lloyd-Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and has done a considerable amount of work with Pop Artists including Mary J Blige, Jessie J, Katie Melua and Lana Del Rey. Henry has also appeared on screen as a violinist in several films including Les Miserables (2012) and Cinderella (Scheduled for Release 2015).

Henry also works extensively with Chamber ensembles including the Koko Quartet, Resident Quartet of Lords Cricket Ground, The Larkin Quartet and the London Studio Players.

Frances Higgs

Born in Bristol, Frances started the viola at age 11. Studying at Trinity College of Music, supported with awards from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and full scholarships, she studied under the tutelage of international soloist, Rivka Golani.

As well as a busy freelance career focusing in opera and ballet, she has given concerts in France, Italy, China and India, whilst future concerts will see her travelling to perform in Zimbabwe and Scandinavia. In demand as a contemporary artist, she works with composers in new works and cross-arts disciplines, including a premiere of Oliver Kentish's work, Prelude and Fugue for 10 Violas, at the Southbank Centre.

Frances is a guest artist with the Armartis Ensemble, and a founder member of the Stretto Quartet, who are currently preparing to undertake a UK tour of recitals. Her work has also lead to recording BBC documentaries, Indian film scores, rock festivals and albums for vocalists.

Frances plays on a viola made for her in 2002 by the luthier, David Milward, and regularly works with the Australian pianist, Coady Green.

Daniel Burrowes

Daniel Burrowes began playing the cello at the age of 5, and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama Junior Department until the age of 11, then the Kent Music Academy to the age of 18. Further study at Leeds University, Trinity College of Music and SMU, in Dallas, Texas, completed his studies.

Returning to the UK in 2011, Daniel has been building a freelance career, performing with many orchestras as well as a wide variety of theatre orchestras. He is a member of the Darwin Piano Trio with Eleanor Tagart and Helen Twomey, and has also performed regularly with the London Studio Players, with whom he performed on a three week cruise of the Mediterranean.

He also runs the cello duet ensemble, Two Cellos, providing music for weddings and functions.

He is currently teaching cello at Coloma Convent Girls School in Croydon, and also runs a private studio.

The Stretto Quartet is a sought-after ensemble for social events, corporate functions and weddings, in London and further afield.

They are happy to travel to your event, and will bring with them their professional approach, reliability, flexibility and sense of fun.

If you are looking to find a string quartet consisting of four individually talented players who combine to perform with a considerable flair and zest, this is the string quartet for you.

The four members of the Stretto Quartet first worked together during a tour of Chennai, India. Three members of the group toured China together, and two studied in the USA before meeting their Canadian violinist. Though clearly well-travelled, they have also individually appeared in Phantom of the Opera in the West End, on screen in the film of Les Miserables, and with the Welsh National Opera.

They enjoy playing all styles of music, from Mozart to Michael Jackson, and convey their enjoyment to you and your guests. Among the most recent additions to their regular repertoire are the theme from Skyfall and songs by Coldplay and Maroon 5, which with other contemporary music adds a vibrant atmosphere to their performance.

"We worked with Stretto Quartet and would thoroughly recommend them for your wedding. They have a huge repertoire of classical and modern tracks that you can choose from to really carve out the vibe and personality you want for your day. They are also happy to consider other tracks and work with you to source other arrangements as you need. Dan was great at giving advice but also ensuring we made our own decision for the day as it was our wedding. Very easy to communicate with around the event logistics and payment as well. Overall a great experience!"
