FAQs

• How long do you need to set up?

  Depends on what is booked, it can be as quick as 30 minutes for a dry mermaid or as much as 48 hours for our biggest tanks.

• Do you have Public Liability Insurance?

  Yes, both the company and all of our individual entertainers have their own PLI insurance.

• What experience do you have working with children?

  As mermaid performers most of our work involves interacting with children! Hire A Mermaid UK has been working with children since 2014 and our sister company (Princess For Hire UK) started operating in 2011. All of our performers are DBS checked.

• How long is your performance?

  Again depends what you book! The shortest package we offer is a '30 minute appearance' however our theatrical shows (both with and without the tank) tend to be between 20 & 40 minutes - however we can cater show times to your needs!

• What age range do you work with?

  All ages!

• What venues can you work in?

  Due to our wide range of performance we can work in any venue! Our 'medium' size tank is collapsible and can fit through a standard door frame, however the venue floor where the tank is placed will need to be weight bearing of at least 9 tonnes.

• Can you work outdoors?

  Yes! We have a range of entertainment to cover both indoor and outdoor events.

• Is the show safe?

  All of our underwater performers are qualified freedivers and we always have the appropriate safety & evacuation precautions set in place. Some of our shows involve acrobatics but again these will always be trained professionals.

• Any special requirements for the show?

  Dependent on what is booked we will always let you know in advance of any special requirements! Tank shows do require a water source - this can either be from a nearby tap (usually costing between £20 and £100 dependent on the size of tank booked and your area) OR water can be brought in via a 3rd party company for an extra cost (please ask for a quote)

• Are you DBS checked?

  Yes! All of our performers are DBS checked.

• Do you limit the number of children that we can invite to our child's Birthday party?

  Yes. Dry land Mermaid parties are a maximum of 20 children - if additional children will be attending you will need to hire one of our Pirate assistants, which brings your total children allowed to 40. Swimming parties are a max of 10 children - you can increase these number by either; hiring an additional mermaid/pirate assistant through us OR by supplying additional adults in the water to assist the mermaid.

• Can I hire a tank on its own without booking a mermaid/performer?

  Yes. Although we wouldn't necessarily recommend it! Some of our tanks can be hired on their own, however we would need to know exactly what it was being used for/what was going inside the tank and the qualifications/abilities of those you are putting inside. However we will always recommend booking our performers - anyone who is not appropriately trained/experienced in working underwater/in tanks will likely not have the skills to give an impressive or comfortable looking performance. Not only this but the safety implications of having an untrained performer in the water may mean that your insurance will not be covered and the untrained performer would be in danger of injury/black out.
