We recently hired Press Record Live for an international party with 170 guests, Matt did a fantastic job of catering to the interests of people from various ages and from different cultures. We regularly throw parties and thanks to Matt this event was by far the best we have thrown, he responded to requests promptly and his equipment was top of the range and allowed for an exciting and professional event. Matt also was very efficient in setting up and dismantling his equipment, he managed to make our canteen feel like a lit night club! We will be using Press Record Live again and again! THANK YOU MATT!

Naomi was absolutely brilliant at our wedding. She was easy to communicate with prior to the day and did an excellent job on the day. She even wore a dress in a colour in keeping with our wedding colours.
We highly recommend Naomi to anyone else looking for a violinist at your event.

Blag came along and did a wonderful job of entertaining at my rescheduled 50th Birthday party.
They were very accommodating, playing their first set outside and then moving inside in the break.
They are very skilled musicians and did an excellent job.
However, they are misrepresented as a Ceilidh band, as I had asked for a number of led dances and to have a caller encourage people to join in. They did a great set, but chose to play their eclectic set list which included celtic folk, rock, latin, world music, jazz and some some pop / rock covers and no led dances which was a shame as this is what I had asked for.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, just be clear about your expectations from the outset.

Joe was punctual, polite & played exactly what I asked for. He made my special day perfect. I would definitely recommend him to my friends.
A gem of a find 🎈🎶
We delivered next level parties for exceptional companies
We also did more than 40,000 birthday parties. Probably, including your neighbour’s recent big bash.
Hire an Ensemble in Liverpool, the relaxed route to a remarkable event
If you are hunting for an ensemble in Liverpool that sounds superb, looks the part and keeps planning painless, you are in the right place. The city’s maritime spirit, creative energy and handsome architecture give you a backdrop that begs for live music. Choose the right lineup and your waterfront wedding feels cinematic, your museum evening gains a quiet glow, your charity gala finds a heartbeat, your cruise send off turns into a proper moment, and your Beatles themed party lands with a grin. In this guide we will map out what to book, where it works best, what it costs, and how to secure the perfect ensemble in minutes.
Poptop is not just a party planning marketplace. It is the most reliable and straightforward way to organise an unforgettable event, with peace of mind and support from early ideas to the last note.
What we mean by an ensemble
An ensemble is a compact, professional group that delivers a clear sound without the footprint of a full party band. Think polished, versatile and quick to set. In Liverpool the most requested lineups include:
String Quartet or String Trio for elegance and crossover covers
Swing or Jazz Combo, usually a Trio or Quartet, for receptions and dinners
Parade Brass or Brass Quintet for noisy fun, arrivals and walk ups
Sea shanty and folk ensembles for nautical flavour and crowd singalongs
Roaming Acoustic Ensemble for table to table requests and spontaneous moments
Gospel Ensemble for ceremonies and high emotion features
Most can perform acoustic or with a neat PA. Repertoires stretch from classical to chart hits, from jazz standards to folk favourites, and, of course, from early Merseybeat to singalong anthems. That range is why ensembles suit mixed age guest lists and multi stage schedules.
Liverpool spaces and how to make them sing
Liverpool venues have character, from brick and iron dockside warehouses to serene Georgian rooms. Matching the lineup to the space keeps everything sounding intentional.
Dockside warehouses
High ceilings, exposed brick and a touch of echo need clarity. Strings give you cinematic warmth that sits beautifully against industrial textures. A String Trio for welcome drinks keeps chatter audible, then a String Quartet can lift the dial for a first look or a reveal. If you want a surprise hit of energy, bring Parade Brass for a ten minute arrival burst. We place players away from hard corners and manage volume so speeches stay crisp.

Curated suppliers
All Poptop’s suppliers are rigorously vetted and approved by our team of party experts, ensuring you book the very best.
Museums reward taste and restraint. A Swing or Jazz Combo feels premium without volume battles, and the look suits white walls and curated spaces. For private views, the trio can move quietly between galleries and anchor key talking points with short feature pieces. If your evening includes a presentation, a single brass motif to cue applause is a tidy way to keep timings tight.
Georgian townhouses
Timber floors and high windows read elegant rather than loud. Strings are the obvious fit, especially for ceremonies and seated dinners. For later, a Roaming Acoustic Ensemble threads through rooms and staircases with requests, which keeps the party lively without a full stage build. We plan routes, rests and photo spots so music becomes part of the house tour.
Pier Head hotels
Hotels are practical, modern and spread across foyers, ballrooms and terraces. A Jazz Quartet is perfect for receptions and award walk ups. If your event spans multiple levels, a roaming lineup can guide guests between lifts and rooms while keeping the atmosphere continuous. For grand entrances, Brass Quintet at the ballroom doors adds theatre that photographs well.
Match the lineup to the Liverpool moment
Your guest list and goals lead the way. Use this as a quick route to the right choice.
Waterfront weddings
Ceremony: String Quartet for processional, a short interlude during signing and a bright recessional that suits the skyline.
Drinks: String Trio outdoors at a gentle level, or Roaming Acoustic Ensemble by the water for relaxed singalongs.
Dinner: Jazz Trio with graceful instrumentals that rise between courses and settle for speeches.
Reveal: Parade Brass for five minutes to gather everyone for the first dance or cake.
Outdoor sound carries on the breeze. We bring subtle amplification if needed, keep cable runs tidy and agree a simple indoor pivot in case the weather flips.
Museum evenings
Doors open: Jazz Combo by the entrance with lighter tempos that encourage browsing.
Spotlight talk: Short string feature linked to the theme of the collection.
VIP lounge: Duo set with calm textures for donors and press.
Most museums set clear volume and equipment rules. We meet those without fuss and work with on site teams so your night stays seamless.
Charity galas
Arrivals: Brass Quintet builds energy as guests step from lifts to foyer.
Seating: A brief brass call to nudge people to tables without a shout.
Awards or pledges: Crisp stings to punctuate names and totals.
Dining: String Trio to soften the room between announcements.
After dinner: Roaming Acoustic Ensemble touring tables for crowd favourites that end on a high.
Short, repeatable cues keep fundraising on schedule and make winners feel seen.
Cruise send offs
Quayside welcome: Parade Brass sets a celebratory tone as guests assemble.
Boarding window: Folk or sea shanty set that nods to maritime history and invites a singalong.
Farewell moment: One last brass chorus timed to the wave off, then a gentle acoustic coda as people disperse.
We time sets to check in slots and security windows, so you get music without clogging the flow.
Beatles themed parties
Arrival: Beatles String Tribute weaving familiar melodies, catchy and classy.
Dinner or reception: Swing or Jazz Combo with tasteful reinterpretations of era classics.
Late segment: Roaming Acoustic Ensemble moving through the room for request led choruses.
Finale: Brass reprise of a single iconic hook for a cheerful close.
You get the spirit of the city without needing a full tribute band or a stage heavy setup.
Theme ideas with a Liverpool flavour
A theme brings cohesion and helps the music feel tailored to the city and your story.
Beatles string tributes
Strings carrying instantly recognisable melodies, arranged for processionals, first looks and photo calls. Add a handful of modern covers and it feels fresh rather than nostalgic. Ideal for waterfront weddings, museum nights and Georgian houses.
Swing and jazz combo
Piano or guitar with bass, drums and a horn gives you hotel smart polish. Great for receptions, awards and private dining. The set can fold in subtle nods to local heroes while staying elegant.
Sea shanty and folk set
Fiddle, guitar, percussion and rich harmonies that suit docks, terraces and outdoor gatherings. It is sociable, easy to join in, and brilliant for family parties that want something different.
Parade brass
Five players, quick to set, loads of personality. Perfect for arrivals, walk ups, short crawls between rooms and circulating photo ops. For a corporate reveal or a final toast, nothing gathers a crowd faster.
What ensembles cost in Liverpool
Most bookings fall between £400 and £900. The total depends on lineup size, performance length, date and logistics. Patterns we see regularly:
String Duo for ceremony only often sits near the lower end
String Trio for drinks and one short dinner set usually lands mid range
String Quartet for ceremony and reception nudges the upper mid
Jazz Trio for two one hour sets sits in the middle, with a small allowance for gear
Brass Quintet for arrivals and stings tends toward the top of the range
Sea shanty and folk ensembles vary with lineup size, commonly mid range
Roaming Acoustic Ensemble is efficient on setup and typically mid range

Practical planning tips that pay off
Small choices make a big difference on the day. These are our favourite wins.
Share your running order early. Entrances, vows, speeches and send offs run smoother when the ensemble can lock in cues.
Choose three anchor tracks. Give the musicians a short must play list to show your taste. They will build the rest around it.
Think about movement. If your plan spans foyer, terrace and ballroom, include one mobile element such as a roaming acoustic set or a short brass escort between spaces.
Match volume to the moment. Reception music should sit at conversation level, then rise for reveals. We manage this so you do not have to.
Prepare a light weather plan. Waterfront breezes can shift quickly. Shade and a simple indoor pivot keep instruments and guests comfortable.
Respect venue rules. Museums and heritage spaces often set clear guidelines. We liaise with on site teams so you keep the sound you want and the venue stays happy.
Set clear photo ideas. A small riser, soft lighting and tidy stands turn live music into great imagery. Tell us your must capture moments and we will position players accordingly.
Time the finale. A last song at the door or a brass reprise on the steps makes departure feel deliberate rather than a fade out.
