Well, I spent a good couple of months planning for this event. It was a surprise to my wife to celebrate 10 years of marriage. Once I had gotten confirmation French Chef At Home would undertake the event all went smooth as, as I chose the menu and liaised with Yves and Anne to make the day special. The first my wife knew about it, was when Yves turned up at the given time in his car sporting the French Chef logo. We quickly introduced ourselves to each other and Yves made good use of the facilities our kitchen had to offer. There was no fuss, it was almost as if Yves knew the kitchen like the back of his hand. I and my wife and our guests for the day drank cocktails while Yves prepared and cooked the food. We originally ordered a 4 course meal but it became apparent that Yves had in mind to bestow upon us a 5 course offerings. He was warm and polite, very professional, and my wife and guests were mesmerized as he served each dish from starters to deserts. There were bite size starters of quail eggs and fish, served on mini popadoms and breads. This was followed at leisure by scallops with asparagus with a fantastic sauce. For the main meal we chose Lamb shanks, and I could not begin to allay to you just how fantastic this main meal was, with offerings of a unique and very tasty gravy with veg and i think a polena wedge. I could not help but think this was probably the best meal I had ever had in my 50 years of living. A desert followed, then the final course of a cheese dish. All the while Yves was very professional. We sat there astounded as each dish came to our pallet. I had to make a mental note to slow down and savor each dish. We took photographs and Yves allowed us to take photos of his very aesthetically prepared cooked food. I could not have made the day any better. Still now, my wife and I are sat here humbled by the event. There was no rush, nothing was forced or insincere, it was without doubt, what every couple could want from a professional chef for a special event. Once the meal was over, Yves cleared up the kitchen and left us to continue the day with cocktails. But when he had gone, we could not stop admiring his culinary skills. What a fantastic day, and a great chef who was warm, sincere, and very skilled in his art. Both my wife and I would greatly promote French Chef at Home. To top it all, for a party of four, the fee was extremely reasonable. We spent the rest of the day till the early hours, enjoying the occasion before falling over late on. When I arranged a surprise birthday party for my wife at Ormidale House it was suggested that I perhaps contact you and arrange a dinner – little did I know then just what an extraordinary event we would all be able to recall, and talk about for some time afterwards, thanks to your amazing menu; a palette of cascading flavors and visual feast for the eyes. Outside ‘catering’ often conjours up images of limp sandwiches, packet soups disguised as ‘homemade’ or crisps and dips of some dubious origin; it just doesn’t do your culinary prowess justice. You are a team at the top of your game. From my first contact with Yvonne, for whom nothing is too much trouble, to the late curved ball of adding a vegetarian and youngsters needs at you at the last minute, you took away the entire stress of planning and preparing to then present a dinner that would rival any, and I mean any, upscale city restaurant – everything was cooked to perfection and presented promptly and discretely. The canapés were a delight on the palate complimenting the champagne wonderfully, the glazed melon starter refreshed the senses in preparation for what followed – the most delicate and sublime sea bass on perfectly cooked pasta, only to be topped by the fillet steak which was mouth wateringly tender and cooked to perfection for each and every one of us, so tender in fact that no steak knife was necessary to cut! Our final courses of the lemon tart, which cleansed the richness of the previous course was simply heavenly and then we enjoyed a wonderful selection of cheeses. A beautifully balanced and well conceived menu, freshly prepared and cooked to perfection, presented with charm and attention to detail.
