Why Event Suppliers Choose Weird & Wonderful Names?

Here at Poptop, we love our suppliers. They are the reason all of your wonderful events are able to happen. We also love things that are quirky, funny and downright cool.

So, for your viewing pleasure, we’ve asked some of event suppliers, with names that we thought were all of the above, to give us a little bit of an insight into their brand.

Sax Every Weekend

Ben has toured with big names such as ‘The Killers’ frontman Brandon Flowers and performed at Glastonbury festival. He has also featured on BBC Radio 1 and won awards in the UK and Europe.

 Where are you based?

–  Manchester.

What do you do?

–  I’m a Sax player.

Who chose the name?

–  I chose the name after hearing David Zowie’s dance track ‘House Every Weekend’ and playing along to it so many times on gigs.

 And…Why?

–  I feel incorporating the name as part of my act immediately links me with peoples desire to hear sax played alongside dance music.

King Brasstards

Made up of seven professional musicians from Leicester, they have fast developed a reputation for being one of the most entertaining outfits around.

 Where are you based?

– Leicester.

What do you do?

– We are a funky, New Orleans-influenced Brass Band playing a mix of well-known pop songs in our style, classic swing, and jive numbers and original material.

Who chose the name?

– It was a team effort! With Leicester folk often not pronouncing the full ‘f-word’ we thought it would be a laugh and the original idea was ‘Kin’ Brasstards’. Once we had our logo designed and the crown was used, and with our trombone player using King trombones, we thought ‘King Brasstards’ was a goer and it has worked well for us ever since.

 And…Why?

– Once when were busking, a very serious looking woman came over to us and said ‘I just want to say that name…’ paused and we all thought she was going to be negative about it. She continued: ‘…that’s the best band name I’ve ever seen’. We’ve occasionally had to use just ‘King Brass’ when working in schools or with the media but by and large, the fact that it is so memorable and tongue in cheek has played in our favour!

Boothylicious Photobooths

Photobooths are a fab way to ensure that your event is memorable and that you can keep those memories forever.

 Where are you based?

– Essex.

What do you do?

– We’re a funky photobooth company who are also professional photographers and offer event photography also.

Who chose the name?

– We wanted something different to stand out from the crowd and us here in Essex are known for our funky styles. After a poll on Facebook, this name won!

 And…Why?

– Above really. But the family wasn’t keen at first then as we got bookings all our clients comment on how brilliant the name is! It makes us more relatable and with providing a fun product we wanted a fun company name to match.

Mac To The Future

Love Mac & Cheese? Love “Back to the Future”? With so much tasty food, you won’t forget them. Who knows, maybe they’ll let you time travel back to do it all again!

 Where are you based?

– London.

What do you do?

– We make freshly prepared 5 cheese mac n cheese with a variety of tasty locally sourced toppings. Oh and we time travel 😉

Who chose the name?

– A friend of ours actually came up with the name one evening after binge-watching all 3 Back to the Future films. Funny enough they were eating mac n cheese as well.

 And…Why?

– Everyone loves mac n cheese and everyone loves Back to the Future so its a double win. Having a pun in the name get’s people’s attention and also makes you memorable so people will come back. It is also a great conversation starter with new customers and makes you more approachable.

ABBA REBJORN

Voted as the UK’s top ABBA tribute band, ABBA Rebjörn are sure to make your party one to remember. Audience participation is expected, so get your dancing shoes (and crowns) on. We spoke to Sam to get a little insight into the awesome act.

 Where are you based?

– Wiltshire

What do you do?

– We are predominantly an ABBA Tribute Band but perform many other genres as a band, including 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, Country and Motown! (Our other acts are all under another name ‘Star Tribute’)

Who chose the name?

– I did! I woke up in the middle of the night after weeks of trying to come up with a name for the band and had an Epiphany!

 And…Why?

– Once I had got the name it made perfect sense, what with ‘Björn’ being one of the ‘B’s’ in ABBA and us being called ‘Re-Björn’ it was our way of saying we are the new ABBA ‘reborn’.   I tend to find that people who are big ABBA fans get the name straight away but some need it explaining to them and they have no idea how to pronounce ‘Björn’! I do find that funny…
