Over the last 24 years, Sam Prowse, 33, has become one of Yorkshire's finest guitarists. Fuelled by his parents love for the likes of George Harrsion, Simon & Garfunkel and Steve Tilston, Sam was set on learning how to play the guitar from a very early age. Music has since become a huge part of his life and without question the one thing Sam could not live without. This passion is evident not only the quality of his music, but also his heartfelt stage presence wherein Sam has been known to play everything from an infectiously upbeat covers of well known chart hits, to his own delicately structured pieces with their infinite complexity and emotional variance.

Drawing on material of guitarists like Andy McKee, Pat Metheny, Erik Mongrain and Antoine Dufour, Sam's style comprises of a complex bed of sound that utilises altered tunings, percussive hits and tapping amongst many other techniques. His debut album, 'Broadmellow' is the culmination of these efforts and was in the making for almost four years since Sam first discovered and began learning fingerstyle guitar. The album was released on 16th April 2012 and features 7 tracks of calming and melodious acoustic guitar. While he is not alone in this style of guitar playing, Sam's attention to harmonic detail and structural development truly makes him an artist to look out for. The emotion and virtuosity of his playing truly exemplifies the versatility and complexity of the acoustic guitar.

These skills often pass through into his ever expanding catalogue of cover songs, which range from tracks by classic artists such as Frank Sinatra, Bob Marley and Bill Withers, right through to current pop artists such as Ellie Goulding, Maroon 5 and Gnarls Barkley.

Sam is currently in the process of writing and recording his new EP which is set for release later this year.

Sam was excellent. It was a somewhat energetic crowd at the party but Sam took it all in his stride and delivered a great couple of sets. Really made the party. Would highly recommend. Great job Sam!

My husband and I booked Sam for our wedding on the 28th May 2016. We were blown away at Sam's professionalism and his unbelievable talent. Sam played for four hours at our outdoor tipi wedding and created the most amazing, relaxed, chilled out atmosphere we were hoping for. Everyone commented on Sam's music and the diversity of songs he played...some covers, some his own material. We could not recommend Sam enough. Thanks Sam! Mr and Mrs Whittaker xx

FAQs

  • Where are you based and how far can you travel?

I am based in Leeds, but I am willing and able to travel pretty much anywhere in the UK with enough notice. If the gig in question is particularly far away, I may ask for some travel expenditure coverage if the client is happy to help towards the cost.

  • Can you provide your own PA?

Yes, I can, but only for smaller venues as I do not own a large PA system.

  • Can you personalise a set list?

Yes, I can but I cannot provide this service at short notice.. I charge £10 per custom song and at a maximum of 3 requests per set, as I need to allow time to obtain sheet music/lyric sheets and allocate time for rehearsal.

  • How much experience do you have playing to a live audience?

I have over 10 years of experience in performing live music in venues across the UK, both as a solo and ensemble musician. With my band Feeds, I have supported big household names such as Ash and The Hooisers as well as played numerous festivals.

  • How much notice do you need for booking gigs?

I prefer to book a month in advance to allow for learning requests from clients, but at the very latest, I could book up until a fortnight before an event. This is also somewhat dependant on how far I have to travel, incase I have to book time off work.
