The School offers the distinct benefit of offering a complete wedding day in one location with a truly flexible space in which to stage your ceremony, reception drinks, wedding breakfast and evening event, and with enough space to avoid the need for turning round rooms with guests in occupation. Every wedding we hold is unique, entirely bespoke for you (on average we only hold around 17 weddings a year) so don’t hold back when discussing your ideas with us! With an elegant, sacred feeling space for ceremonies and drinks served on the top terrace overlooking one of the most famous battlefields in England surrounded by over 1000 years of history, Battle Abbey really has the wow factor you’re looking for.


We can seat up to 120 guests in the fantastic wood panelled Duke’s Library for your wedding breakfast and accommodate up to 250 for the evening entertainment. We don’t have many restrictions but due to the size of the venue we recommend a minimum of 75 guests for the day.


All our Canapés, Starters, Mains and Desserts are prepared on site using fresh and, where possible, local ingredients from East Sussex.


The cost to hold a wedding reception or ceremony and reception at Battle Abbey School ranges from £2,500 (out of season midweek date) to £4,500 (summer season saturday) and will include exclusive use of the whole school site and surrounding outdoor space. You will also have full access the day before to dress the venue as required. Pricing for drinks and food will depend entirely on your choices. We can lay on anything from a barbeque or hog roast up to a five course sit down formal meal. If there’s something you particularly want, just ask!

Fordwich Town Hall

Fordwich is a beautiful and ancient port on the River Great Stour, two miles downstream from the City of Canterbury in Kent.

Although Fordwich has never boasted more than a few hundred inhabitants, its right to style itself a town dates from 1184, when King Henry II granted it a Merchant Gild Charter, reflecting its importance as the de facto port for Canterbury.


In the Domesday Book, it was described as a small burgh, one of only seven burghs in Kent. Since the 13th century, Fordwich has been involved with the Cinque Ports through its geographical and institutional links with Sandwich.


Fordwich Town Council today is, in legal terms, a parish council composed of five members either elected, or more usually appointed. The original Fordwich corporation, with its liberty and privileges, was abolished in the local government reorganisation of 1886.


However, the chairman of the Council is styled the Mayor, and on ceremonial occasions wears a chain of office as well as other mayoral accoutrements. By custom the Mayor also serves as Mayor Deputy to the Mayor of Sandwich, thus preserving the historic Cinque Ports link.


Fordwich Town Council meets once a month, except in August and December, generally on the last Wednesday of the month.


Meetings are usually held in the historic Town Hall, built in 1544. On occasions meetings may take place in other locations, such as the Old School House

We manage a community building, the Ripple Centre in Barking, where we are based. The Ripple Centre is a modern building with versatile meeting and training rooms, office space, and a large function hall.
