10 Simple Ways to Make Your Home Office Festive

Christmas is here and COVID-19 or not, we need to start feeling festive. We don’t judge at all, if you’re workspace is tucked away in the corner of the kitchen or amongst the laundry in the spare room, it doesn’t mean you can’t make it a little more jolly with some decor! Not only will a festive home office give you that warm Christmas feeling, but it should put a smile on your face every day too.

So, whether you’re well into the work from home vibe, or you’re still settling in to your home office, why not consider decorating your desk this year?!

How to Decorate Your Home Office This Christmas

1. I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas

Hopefully after the year we have had, we should get some snow as a little treat this year. But while we are waiting for it, why don’t you bring the snow inside and decorate your desk in a cascade of white! Think paper chains, soft white felt and even silver coloured baubles to fit your theme.

2. Work Hard in Santa’s Workshop

You’re working hard already, so why not set up your WFH space into the perfect workshop and picture yourself as an elf. Put up a decorative sign or get yourself a little reindeer friend as a mascot through the holiday season.

3. Take a Trip Down Candy Cane Lane

Red and white is a classic colour combo, and very festive! So, take your love of candy canes one step further and get crafting some gorgeous decorations to highlight your home office.

4. Gingerbread Dream House

Did you get the baking bug throughout lockdown? Maybe you want to cosplay as Hansel and Gretel, whatever your vibe is, consider a gingerbread house theme to keep you cosy and warm this holiday season. Don’t forget the jar of ginger biccies to keep you company.

5. Reuse, Recycle and Upcycle!

We have all learnt about our environmental impact this year in leu of us being stuck inside. So continue the theme and try and make Christmas decorations from all your old bits and pieces! You can recycle tin cans into a tree shaped Christmas storage holder or make paper chains from old magazines.

6. Deck the Halls With Boughs of Holly

Maybe you’d like something a little more fresh this holiday season. How about treating yourself to a real wreath, a potted poinsettia or some holiday holly? A little greenery can make you feel Christmassy even when it is dreary outside and make your home office more festive.

7. Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

If you don’t have a lot of space on your desk, why not use the wall or ceiling above to create a gorgeous flurry of snowflakes. Paper snowflakes are really easy to use, and they can be made from recycled newspapers or scrap paper what would have just gone in your recycling bin.

8. Christmas Songs Bring Christmas Joy

If you’re a big fan of Christmas songs, why not decorate your desk to represent your favourites. The 12 days of Christmas is an easy one, you can simply find an item to represent all of the different elements of the song. So grab your toy drum and find yourself a pair tree from somewhere. Or rock around the Christmas tree, jingle your bells and find your Frosty the Snowman.

9. Wrap up the Year Nicely

Got some old wrapping paper that you were looking to do something with? Why not cover your desk in festive wrap (or prank someone in your bubble!) and wrap up all of your things. This one is very easy and is sure to get you in the Christmas mood.

10. Twinkly and Bright

Grab some festive fairy lights and hang them around your festive home office to bring a little joy into your work days. Or alternatively, use fake lanterns or candles to light up the dark days before Christmas day!

Whether you are looking to compensate for the lack of that Christmas work feeling, you want to make your work day a little more exciting or if you’re hosting your own work from home Christmas desk competition, decorating your desk is a sure way to make you feel a some seasonal joy.
