Info about Launcells Barton
Although Launcells Manor House is referred to in the Domesday Book of 1086, Launcells Barton as we know it is made up of two halves. The varied heritage of the house and its different architectural details are part of what makes this venue so unique.
Thought to date back to the 14th century, the older half of the house was once held by a cell of Augustine monks affiliated with Devon’s Hartland Abbey. Having originally included a chapel, this part of Launcells Barton retains a number of charming original features.
The Bridal Suite boasts large window seats overlooking the walled garden below while a rustic church door leads from the kitchen into the larder. Look closely and you’ll even find a priest hole that dates back to the dissolution of the monasteries during the reign of King Henry VIII!
With its distinctive, regal facade, large, light rooms and high ceilings, the newer half of the property is very obviously Georgian. This part of the house was designed by Sir John Call. Once High Sheriff of Cornwall, his work can also be seen at Bodmin Jail, giving your best man plenty of scope for jokes about ‘the old ball and chain’!
In its entirety, the house has been lovingly restored and brought back to life by current owners, Matthew and Lara, to provide luxury accommodation for you and your wedding party.
Nestled on the far side of the house at the top of its own private staircase, the beautifully appointed Bridal Suite provides an elegant space in which to prepare for your wedding day and spend your first night together as a married couple.
With its large roll top bath and luxurious design, the en suite bathroom is perfect for a little pampering, so you can spend time with your bridesmaids the night before your wedding or indulge in a relaxing bath the morning after. Either way, waking up within the sumptuous surroundings of the Bridal Suite is the perfect start to married life!
In the main part of the house, you’ll find a further five bedrooms for your close friends and family. Pull-out beds for children provide even more flexibility and there’s also the possibility to use the fields surrounding the house for additional accommodation such as yurts or tents.
You and your guests will have full use of the property’s large communal kitchen, complete with Aga and a beautifully presented welcome hamper filled with delicious local produce to enjoy during your stay.
Being so close to Bude your wedding guests are also spoilt for choice with hotels, B&B’s, self-catering accommodation and glamping/ camping sites all within 5 minutes drive of Launcells Barton.
