Dillington House

Dillington House Ilminster, TA19 9DT, Somerset, Somerset
Dillington House dates back to the sixteenth century, and is the former home of Prime Minister Lord North.

In the early nineteenth century, the House was remodelled in the so-called Jacobethan style and is now rated Grade 2* by English Heritage. The Mews building was constructed in 1875, while 2009 saw the opening of The Hyde - a spectacular example of contemporary architecture, overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Once a family home, since 1950 Dillington has served the South West region as a centre for adult education, for conferences and business meetings, and more recently as a beautiful venue for weddings and social events. Few people know that Dillington was a national centre for training for British Rail from the 1950s to the early 1970s. In 1995 Dillington became the second venue in Somerset to be licensed for Civil Ceremonies and today weddings of all descriptions form an important part of our business.

Dillington's idyllic setting amid mature parkland makes it the perfect place to learn, relax, and get away from the pressures of everyday life. Our accommodation is first rate - confirmed by the award of a prestigious Five Star rating by VisitEngland's National Quality Assurance Standard Campus Scheme. Add to this delicious cuisine, friendly staff and a diverse programme of courses and events, and Dillington House stands out as a special place.

There is ample free parking across the site, with disabled parking available in front of the Mews building.

We have excellent facilities for people with disabilities, but it is always wise to let us know of any special requirements. That way, we can ensure that all of your needs are catered for in advance.

Dillington is a member of the Historic Houses Association and a member of the Somerset Chamber of Commerce.

£5500
Up to 250 guests
Peace and tranquility are words often associated with the St Audries Park estate. As you meander up and down the rolling Quantock Hills, you round a bend and arrive, rather unsuspectingly, at the estate entrance. You are greeted by a breathtaking view out over the Bristol Channel, with your very own country house front and centre below you. Slowly amble down the driveway and take in the tranquility of the 100-acre deer park and the estate cottages dotted around the grounds, until, at last, you arrive at your home for the day.

The centrepiece to this charming venue, however, has to be the Orangery. Filled with natural light all year round, its delicate and magical feel is perfect for that special moment of 'I do'. Other sumptuous reception rooms unfold throughout, allowing your wedding party the ultimate in comfort. There is even accommodation on site for over 100 guests, with a popular option here being to stay not just one night, but two.

Windwhistle Inn

Cricket St Thomas,, TA20 4DQ, Chard, Somerset
The original building which houses the traditional bar dates from the 17th Century and was once a notorious haunt of smugglers, highwaymen, and cut-throats. It has a romantic ‘Jamaica Inn’ type atmosphere and local folklore has it that if you looked like you had money on you, you would be lured or dragged down into the cellar and your throat slit.

Since then the building has been extended to now include a separate restaurant area for quiet dining, a large bright & airy conservatory where the famous carvery is served and a function room ideal for weddings and other large parties.

All this is set in 5 acres of beautifully maintained gardens with plenty of outdoor seating and loads of space for children (and dogs) to run off their energy after lunch. Both indoor and outdoor games are available for everyone to enjoy.

There is plenty of parking in our very large car park but you are also welcome to use our bike parking and our horse parking as an alternative! Walkers and dogs also very welcome.
