The Swing Swindlers is a large (13 - 17 strong) ballroom/swing orchestra, performing music from the 1930s and 1940s in original arrangements, or, occasionally, new original music in the similar vein. The orchestra is based in Estonia, EU, but does a lot of travelling. All the musicians are young professionals, their day job being either in the State Symphony Orchestra or the Opera orchestra. We have released about a dozen of albums in the UK, USA, Germany, Finland and Estonia and won some recognition, including the Critic's Award of The Gramophone Magazine. Our newest album, Swing And Sweet, will be released by Divine Art Records for the UK/US market soon.We concentrate on British / European rather than American repertoire, and our style is something between swing and sweet. We can play for concert and dance, our repertoire is vast and we feature several vocalists as well as a ballet troupe. The Swing Swindlers also has a 6 - 8 piece line up for smaller events.Even though we enjoy playing music from the 30s the most, we have a wide repertoire. In 2006 and 2007, The Swing Swindlers was the official orchestra of the Estonian version of Dancing With The Stars, with the leader and principal vocalist Mart Sander hosting the show. He can sing and MC in six different languages and is in constant demand as one of the most witty and elegant performers. Please, describe your act or business in on sentence:
Our goal is to recreate the atmosphere of the 1930s and 1940s in every musical and visual detail.
What are the highlights of your career?
Official orchestra for such major TV shows as Dancing With The Stars (Estonia) and Pop Idol Estonia; countless concerts around Europe (including one with Mariah Carey in Moscow!); numerous recordings with prestigeous awards. But I hope our highlights are yet ahead of us!
What is your competitive advantage (special features)?
Our young and highly professional musicians; our unique arrangements which have been hand picked from the records of the best bands from the 1930s; our ability to perform music from around the world (including a 1930s Japanese program) in 10 languages.
What kind of events do you usually serve?
Balls, receptions, corporative parties, weddings, gala evenings, award ceremonies. Or, we just give concerts.
Who are your previous clients?
We have been performing to crowned heads (including HRM Queen Elizabeth II), presidents, heads of government, Nobel prize winners (including at the actual award ceremony in Stockholm), noted artists and conducters at the opera balls. But we rarely say NO to anyone, because good music needs to be performed and enjoyed everywhere.
How can event planners pay for your services?
Via bank transfer, Moneygram, Paypal, cash, gold or in other goods!
Is there an orchestra similar to yours or better?
Probably not :) - The Gramophone Magazine (who awarded us the Critic's Annual Award) compared us to such legendary orchestras as the BBC Dance Orchestra and noted, that we are an improvement!
Countless hits from films and operettas of the 1930s and 1940s; evergreens, swing standards; classical music in the swinging arrangements from the 30s. In addition to the songs in English, we also have a good selection of French, German and even Russian repertoire.
