The striking Lawrence Hall, with its unique art-deco design and high vaulted ceilings, is popular with organisers who want a London venue with stunning architechtural hertiage. Middle Temple Hall

A modern institution with a long and distinguished history, Middle Temple is a place of many parts.

First and foremost, Middle Temple is one of the four Inns of Court which have the exclusive right to Call students to the Bar. The education and training of advocates lie at the heart of the Inn, but we are also a professional society for our membership worldwide; and we maintain a heritage estate in central London housing chambers from which barristers practise.


Several important activities support Middle Temple’s core functions. In addition to teaching, training and the management of the Inn’s property portfolio, these include the provision of around £1 million per year in support of our students and other junior members; the running of a modern Law library and an historic archive; the oversight (with Inner Temple) of the historic Temple Church; and the management of a commercial events business. All of these activities represent the 21st century Middle Temple, but training and education will always be at its core.

Stationers' Hall and Garden

The beautiful paved and landscaped Garden is a private and secluded space which all clients may make use of when hiring the Hall. However, if the weather is inclement, then additional space inside is always available.


The Garden is dominated by an enormous plane tree which marks the spot where it is alleged heretical books, condemned by the ecclesiastical authorities, were burnt in Tudor times.


Connected by a decorative wrought iron staircase to the Court Room but with easy access to the Hall and Stock Room, the Garden is available for barbeques, receptions, cocktail parties and photography at all times.

London Canal Museum

At the London Canal Museum you can see inside a narrowboat cabin, learn about the history of London's canals, about the cargoes carried, the people who lived and worked on the waterways, and the horses that pulled their boats. Peer down into the unique heritage of a huge Victorian ice well used to store ice imported from Norway and brought by ship and canal boat to be stored. This unique waterways museum is housed in a former ice warehouse built in about 1862-3 for Carlo Gatti, the famous ice cream maker, and features the history of the ice trade and ice cream as well as the canals.
There are two themes in this unusual London museum. London's canals have a fascinating past and you will learn not only how they came to be built but about the lives of the workers, the cargoes, horses and how canals work. We are a waterways museum first and foremost, but also an industrial museum telling the story of the ice industry in London. It is the only London museum of inland waterways and is situated at King's Cross, an accessible central location. It is suitable for adults and children and it is fully accessible to all visitors.
