Walcot Hall

The Earl of Powis, Edward Clive built the freestanding Ballroom at Walcot Hall in around 1800 and it has since seen over two centuries of magnificent occasions. The current owners have restored it to it’s former glory and it is now available to hire for many private events including wedding receptions, balls, parties, family reunions, opera, concerts and theatre. It is situated to the rear of Walcot Hall and can be approached either via the gardens or through a secluded stone-flagged courtyard.

Guests enter into the Anteroom / bar area which provides an intimate, cosy setting for around 30 seated guests or as a comfortable ‘break-out’ area during wedding celebrations. Here we have our bar as well as a piano, comfortable seating and an open fire. The perfect number for a wedding reception at Walcot Hall is 100-120 guests, although the Ballroom can accommodate up to 200 people in a more relaxed, buffet style or evening party.


Imagine if you will, a beautifully decorated turquoise Ballroom with 30ft ornate ceilings, crystal chandeliers, an open fireplace, gilt mirrors and tall sash windows all set within acres of beautiful gardens. We offer 3 main Wedding Packages, which are priced to suit your individual needs and budget. The packages are based on 40 guests, and are priced between £2795 and £3750 which include a wide range of items included in the price.


Or if you would choose a more bespoke menu, we have a number of options for Starters, Mains, Desserts and Intermediates to make your menu choices as unique as your Special Day. With this option, you would price your menu according to the Main Course choice selected, and then select 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 deserts. This option would require pre-ordering.


In addition, we offer a range of Buffet Choices, or individually priced Evening Reception options.


All of our food is prepared in a kitchen where nuts, cereals containing gluten and other allergens are present and our menu descriptions do not include all ingredients. If you do have a food intolerance, please tell us before ordering. Most of our menu items can be adapted for people with allergies.


Children under 2 are free of charge. Children between 2 and 10 years old will be charged at half price. Children can either eat from the main menu with half sized portions, or can eat from a selection of one starter, one main and one sweet from the Children’s Menu, which will be served to all children.


If you require accommodation, we have 45 en-suite rooms, including 3 Suites, many of which have fantastic views across the sea and towards Flamborough Head. Discounts are available for relatives and friends to stay, depending on the time of year, and your room as the Bride and Groom, is included within our packages. We now have a Car Park available for guests at the rear of the hotel.

Located on the first floor in the main part of the hotel, the Whitwell Suite is accessed by the famous staircase from Fotheringhay Castle down which Mary Queen of Scots descended before her execution and beheading on the orders of her cousin Queen Elizabeth I. This magnificent staircase leads your guests up into the elegance of the Whitwell Suite with original mullioned windows, wood panelled , high ceilings and 2 stunning fireplaces.


The Snug


Nestled away next to reception, our Snug Room is ideal for any informal occasion. Afternoon tea and small, intimate weddings can also be held here. The room\'s unique qualities make it one of the key features that characterises the Talbot Hotel.


The Westgate Suite

Rectangular tables only are available in the Undercroft.


Music. The choice in entertainment is up to you, so you are free to have a dj or band. However due to the close proximity of the Hall to residential properties, bass drums are not permitted in the building.

Accessibility. The Hall has an accessible toilet in addition to the cloakrooms for ladies and gentlemen. There is also a lift making both floors accessible to everyone.


The Hall is conveniently located in the York city centre, a 15 minute walk from the train station, and a 5 minute walk from several car parks. The Grimston Bar Park and Ride leaves you at our door.
