Restaurant DH1

The Avenue, DH1 4DX, Durham, County Durham
Restaurant DH1 is lucky enough to be housed in a beautiful, old building, on a hill overlooking Durham city. The building, Farnley Tower, was built by a local architect in 1870 as his own private residence. Over the years the building has had many guises and after undergoing extensive restoration in 1998, Farnley Tower reopened in its current form as a 4 star guest house. Restaurant DH1 opened its doors in March 2014; the realisation of a dream for its current owners.

The restaurant occupies Farnley Tower’s lower floor and can seat around 22 diners. We offer fine dining at an affordable price, in cosy, friendly surroundings. At Restaurant DH1 we are proud of the food that we serve and the service which we provide and we aim to offer our customers a special dining experience every time that they visit. We hope to help create some memorable evenings for each and every one of our guests, whether they are spending time with family, friends or loved ones.

The Management Committee have done a magnificent job in keeping making significant improvements to the Hall since taking over its running a couple of years ago . The Management Committee have set out from day one to bring the Hall into the 21st Century and provide a sustainable future. They have sought out and implemented plans to move forward and through hard work and securing available grant aid are well down the path of achieving their vision. There have been key improvements to the building including redecoration, new lighting and very importantly a new efficient and effective heating system. From September 2015, the Management Committee have been able to take on a part time manager, Claire Anderson, who is now helping the Village Hall to improve even further.
