The Management Committee have done a magnificent job in keeping making significant improvements to the Hall since taking over its running a couple of years ago . The Management Committee have set out from day one to bring the Hall into the 21st Century and provide a sustainable future. They have sought out and implemented plans to move forward and through hard work and securing available grant aid are well down the path of achieving their vision. There have been key improvements to the building including redecoration, new lighting and very importantly a new efficient and effective heating system. From September 2015, the Management Committee have been able to take on a part time manager, Claire Anderson, who is now helping the Village Hall to improve even further.

Cafe 21

Trinity Gardens, Pandon, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 2HH, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
£120
Situated on the Quayside in the heart of Newcastle, 21 provides the perfect place for a great meal with fantastic service.

The story of the restaurant starts in 1988, when chef restaurateur Terry Laybourne opened the restaurant as 21 Queen Street on the city’s Quayside, with support from wife Susan and brother Laurance.

It was an exciting time for the city. Back then the area was not yet fashionable, the cultural renaissance barely a flicker, and the dust still settling after a painful period of deindustrialisation on Tyneside - but 21 Queen Street was at the heart of it all.

In less than three years, the restaurant won a Michelin star and became one of the region’s best-loved fine-dining establishments.

Fast forward to the mid-noughties and the restaurant, now the flagship of the 21 Hospitality Group, would take the name Café 21 and relocate to nearby Trinity Gardens, a sleek new enclave of restaurants and bars close to the Law Courts.

Repositioned as a city centre bistro, Café 21 would win multiple awards, such as the Egon Ronay star, in addition to personal accolades for Terry, such as Independent Restaurateur of the Year and an MBE for services to the Hospitality Industry.

Today, the restaurant remains the crown jewel of the 21 Hospitality Group, the venue where it all began.

With a simple but imaginative food philosophy, an emphasis on classic bistro cooking, and a respect for ingredients both fresh and seasonal, 21 creates dishes that more than satisfy.

Blackfriars Restaurant

Friars St, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4XN, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
Up to 50 guests
Blackfriars was opened in 2001 by Andy and Sam Hook following on from the success of the critically acclaimed Sidney’s Restaurant in Tynemouth. The restaurant is now run by a team of exceptional staff headed up by Group Operations Manager Ruth Terrington, Manager Rebecca Blackith and Head Chef Chris Wardale.

Andy is originally from Cambridge and graduated in Physics at Swansea University where he preferred playing electric guitar and drums in rock bands, more famous for their pyrotechnics than the quality of music!

He then headed for the big lights of London where he watched Marco Pierre White open his famous first restaurant, Harvey’s in Wandsworth, a stone’s throw from his flat.

Four years on, and being attracted by the legendary nightlife, the increasing cultural activities, the seaside and Newcastle United, Andy moved to Newcastle to work in manufacturing and then shortly after met his wife Sam, a marketing and PR specialist who is now Marketing Director for Blackfriars and its sister restaurants.

Quickly tiring of the rigours of factory life and with a burning passion for entering the life of a restaurateur, he opened Sidney’s Restaurant in Tynemouth (since sold) followed by Blackfriars a few years later. In 2016 he opened Hinnies in Whitley Bay and Dobson & Parnell in Newcastle's vibrant Quayside.

The Tyne Bar

1 Maling St, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 1LP, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear
Located in the heart of Newcastle’s Ouseburn Valley, the city’s cultural oasis, The Tyne Bar has been a local favourite for more than two decades.

Famous for its laidback atmosphere and an unwavering commitment to FREE live music, The Tyne Bar is the product of more than 30 years’ experience in the Newcastle pub scene…and we think the pedigree shows.

Operated by the same people who brought you the legendary Barley Mow and the Egypt Cottage in its pre-wine bar heyday, the pub boasts a signature FREE jukebox, a waterside location, and a distinctive beer garden framed by the redbrick arch of Glasshouse Bridge.

Our mission is to provide free live music for Newcastle. It’s our Free Live Music that gives The Tyne its heart and soul and we always have a full schedule of bands, singers and DJs with special events organised on Bank Holidays.

And, if you’re visiting The Tyne Bar when we don’t have live music on, our Free Jukebox rocks with some of the best alternative music that there is.
