Fordwich Town Hall

King St, Fordwich,, CT2 0DB, Canterbury, Kent
Fordwich is a beautiful and ancient port on the River Great Stour, two miles downstream from the City of Canterbury in Kent.

Although Fordwich has never boasted more than a few hundred inhabitants, its right to style itself a town dates from 1184, when King Henry II granted it a Merchant Gild Charter, reflecting its importance as the de facto port for Canterbury.

In the Domesday Book, it was described as a small burgh, one of only seven burghs in Kent. Since the 13th century, Fordwich has been involved with the Cinque Ports through its geographical and institutional links with Sandwich.

Fordwich Town Council today is, in legal terms, a parish council composed of five members either elected, or more usually appointed. The original Fordwich corporation, with its liberty and privileges, was abolished in the local government reorganisation of 1886.

However, the chairman of the Council is styled the Mayor, and on ceremonial occasions wears a chain of office as well as other mayoral accoutrements. By custom the Mayor also serves as Mayor Deputy to the Mayor of Sandwich, thus preserving the historic Cinque Ports link.

Fordwich Town Council meets once a month, except in August and December, generally on the last Wednesday of the month.

Meetings are usually held in the historic Town Hall, built in 1544. On occasions meetings may take place in other locations, such as the Old School House

Crondon Park

Stock Road, Stock Essex, CM4 9DP, Stock, Essex
£4985
Up to 200 guests
Crondon Park has established a reputation as the premier wedding venue in Essex. Set in the beautiful valley of Crondon, with stunning views across the Essex countryside and our championship golf course, it’s no wonder that we are considered in Essex as ‘The Venue for All Occasions’. We have been staging weddings at Crondon Park since our opening in 1994, so we bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure that your day runs smoothly. As Essex’s best wedding venue, we have a responsibility to strive for improved standards. Our family owned business is constantly looking for ways to cater for our valued guest, and we’re keen to make your experience an unforgettable one.

Our main function room is The Baronial Hall. Built circa 1600 out of light oak, it is considered to be one of the finest examples of a Tudor/Jacobean Barn. It has a charm of its own, a very special atmosphere and that wow factor when you first see it. We have enhanced its medieval feel by adding atmosphere lighting; this charming Essex wedding venue can then be colour matched to the theme chosen for your wedding. The solid rosewood floor was acquired from County Hall London twenty years ago, and a hundred years after it was laid there. The Baronial Suite includes The Ryder Room, which is licensed to perform Civil & Partnership Ceremonies. It also has a Bridal Suite, allowing the bride to prepare herself prior to the ceremony and a private room to escape to. The private gardens are totally enclosed. It has a very private feel and cannot be overlooked by anyone. The trees are theme-lit to match the lighting in the Baronial Hall. The whole wedding venue suite is exclusive and self-contained.

The best wedding venues in Essex, and specifically Chelmsford, are extremely well represented, so we have to be vigilant and professional to stay ahead of our competitors. Crondon Park has recently been nominated and shortlisted for ‘The Best Wedding & Barn Venue in the United Kingdom’, which is a true honour. Whether you’re looking for a large wedding venue or a small wedding venue in Essex, we can accommodate for weddings of all sizes. All our catering is in house, we only use fresh produce, and we pride ourselves on presenting tasty foods for all of our wedding guests. There is a wide choice of menus to satisfy all tastes and special dietary requirements.

We welcome the opportunity to meet you, so that we may show you around our wedding venue and its incredible facilities. Contact us today to discuss your special day and your requirements.
