How did your circus entertainment start & what ignited your passion for events?

Like many performers I have a background in performing arts. From a a young age I have danced and taken part in shows. I continued this through to University completing a BA hons Dance degree. I then joined an agency who trained me up in Circus skills so I had more strings to my bow as they say. Later on I decided to specialise in Fire artistry as this was my favourite.

I like events because every day is different, and I get to go to many prestigious/ exciting places that otherwise I wouldn’t get to see.

What is your key to success at Poptop?

I think it’s important to have a good show reel and good pictures, they are worth investing in because a client often can’t imagine what the acts you supply will look like without video footage. I also think it’s important to specialise and find your niche.

You have to remember to help clients to know their event is important to you. If you can throw in an additional extra which helps to personalise the event specifically to them, they love that.

You offer a variety of circus acts, including led shows and stilt walking, what makes you stand out from other circus suppliers?

I have a lot of experience in the industry and so I know ‘what works’ and this can often be different to what the client is envisioning. I think the main reason I stand out is because I have specialised in key acts, rather than trying to be a one stop shop of all skill sets.  I stick to what I know.

The most important things to remember when building rapport with a client?

You have to remember to help clients to know their event is important to you. If you can throw in an additional extra which helps to personalise the event specifically to them, they love that.

What are the main challenges of being a circus performance based company?

The weather is the most challenging obstacle I find, especially with a fire show. Wind and rain are difficult to work with, but most of the time as long as myself and the client is flexible we can work round it.

I always keep the relationship professional and contract everything. I believe that’s what a client expects and helps them to feel confident in the service.

Which event do you consider your biggest accomplishment to date?

The biggest accomplishment to date was when supplying 6 performers to the Silverstone Grand Prix for 3 consecutive days – this involved getting up at 4am every day, a lot of logistical organisation and we were stilt walking in a heat wave which is always fun but we enjoyed ourselves all the same!

How is the relationship between yourself and Poptop clients?

I always keep the relationship professional, and contract everything. I believe that’s what a client expects and helps them to feel confident in the service.

What’s your favourite event to work for?

In the Summer I enjoy garden parties and festivals. In the winter I like Fireworks, weekends and Christmas light switch on’s. They are fun events to be part of and the theming and costuming are very creative.
